Chapter 1
Time skip.
4 years later
Hiccup's P.O.V.
4 years. 4 freaking years. 4. Years! 4 years of going to bed without her by my side! 4 years of the kids thinking Violet as their mom. 3 years of everyone telling me that she's dead and that I should give up looking for her. I cried quietly as I buried my face in my hands, laying on my bed with my legs hanging over the side. "Daddy?" a quiet voice says and I sit up to see Hazel standing in the door way. More tears well in my eyes as I see how much she resembled Calica. She looked exactly like her mother at that age, except Hazel's eyes were green like mine.
"What's up, Hazel-dazel?" I ask as I wave her over to me. She comes over and climbs onto my bed before wrapping her arms around my neck in a hug. I gently return it. "Are you okay?" I ask gently.
"I was gonna ask you the same thing," she says.
"I'm fine, honey. Just thinking about your mom," I tell her as I look at the night sky through my window.
"Will you tell me about her?" she asks as I pull her onto my lap. I chuckle softly as I rest my chin on the top of her head.
"Well, lets see. She looked a lot like you when she was your age. She has crystal-blue eyes, hair as dark as a Nightfury's scales, mean personality-" Hazel cuts me off.
"By 'mean', do you mean like how Buffnut and Shuffnut treat me?" she asks.
"No, no. Not at all. What I mean is she never took any crap from anyone. She made some of her opinions known, except when she didn't wanna share. She stood for what she believed in. If you would ask me what the definition of 'dragon friend' is, I would have said your mother. And let me tell you, she loved her ax. I'm pretty sure she had a relationship with it before we were together," I say and Hazel laughs.
"Do you think she'll ever come back?" she asks.
"I don't know," I sigh.
"Can I come with you on the next search?" she asks.
"Maybe when you're older and have a dragon of your own," I tell her.
"Okay. Goodnight, daddy," she says before kissing me on the cheek and walking out.
"Say goodnight to Aunt Violet before she leaves," I call after her.
"Okay!" is her reply.
Next day
Toothless flies to the arena where the new viking class was waiting. I whatch for a minute, make sure everything's in order, before someone screams, "NIGHT FURY!!!!" I groan and turn around.
"He's been here for years!" I call before another scream joins the first one. "Again! He has been here, for-" I get cut off by a Plasma Blast hitting the arena next to us. I gasp. "What in the name of Thor?!" I yell and Toothless shoots into the air. I look around before I see a shadow lerking in the shade of a hut. Who is that? Another Plasma blast shoots at us and Toothless dodges before I look in the direction it came from to see the Night Fury ontop of the Great Hall, roaring at the panicing village. "Contain that dragon!" I shout and nets are shot at it, missing as it shoots into the air. I see the shadow shoot towards the forge as Gobber leaves it and Toothless shoots a Plasma Blast at the dragon. I lock his tail and jump down before running to the forge. They'll contain the Fury and I'll have a look at it later; I mean this was huge, but I wanted to know who the shadow was. I sneak into the forge to see the figure rumaging through the weapons that hung on the walls. They turn their eyes to the other wall and walk towards Calica's ax. I had found it on the beach the day after the war. The person reaches for it.
"What do you think you're doing?" I ask, coming into the open. They spin around and face me to show that their face is covered by a mask helmet, kinda like mine.
"I'm retrieving some nessesities," they say, their voice muffled. They take the ax down and swing it in front of them.
"Who are you?" I ask.
"No one to worry about, I assure you," they tell me.
"You're stealing my wifes ax, I think you're someone to worry about," I say, taking a step towards them.
"You have no use for it. Calica Haddock is dead," they say and my eyes widen.
"How do you know who my wife is?" I ask.
"Because I killed her. As I looked her in the eyes, she beged me to tell her husband, heir to Berk, Hiccup Haddock, that she loves him. And to move on with someone like Astrid or Violet. I'm not heartless you know. I know you two had kids together. That's why I came. I figured you three deserve to know what happened to her," they say and I lunge for them. They side step and cause me to ram into the wall, making the weapons fall around me. I grab a mace and swing at them only to have them block the blow with the handle of Calica's ax. The person pushes me away and slides under a table as I bring the mace down again, causing the surface to split in half and just miss their head. The person does some flips and spins, swinging my wifes ax like an expert. Have I seen that before? A loud 'KA-BOOM' sounds outside, making the forge shake and a vibration to go through the ground. It starts to crumble around us. We look at each other before running outside and the person trips and rolls further away, stopping and proping themselves up on their fore arm as the forge collapses. "That happened," he says and I growl in irritation.
"You distroyed our forge!" I yell, bringing the mace down on them again. They dodge and kick my legs out from under me. I land on my back and he points the ax at my throat, holding me back.
"What makes you think this is my doing?!" they ask.
"I can only assume that dragon is yours," I say, noding to the Nightfury that was dodging nets and bolas, "And that blast was a Plasma." They look at me.
"You have a Night Fury too," they say, taking a pace back and letting me up. They strap the ax to their back and the Fury swoops by, grabbing the person by his shoulders and throwing them onto it's back. I get on Toothless and he shoots after the person and dragon, gaining on them at every heartbeat. We shoot in front of them and their dragon slides to a stop. They draw a bow and arrow and aim it at me. "Leave it be, Haddock!" they say.
"Not until you return my wife's ax," I tell them.
"She's dead, Hiccup! There's nothing you can do!" they yell before their dragon shoots Toothless in the wing and he falls to the ocean, landing on a sea stack. I watch as they dissappear into the distance.
Calica's P.O.V.
I put my bow away and flip my mask up as Shadow Wing sores through the clouds. I hated telling Hiccup that I was dead but from the looks of it, he hasn't moved on. And he needs to. He deservs to be happy. I lay on her back and relax as we close in on the sanctuary. We fly through the main entrance and she drops me off in the front cavern. I dismount and rub her head in thanks before going to my nest. I sit on my bed and take out a cloth before polishing my ax. I then strap it to my back and go to the main cave, bowing in front of the Great Bewilderbeast respectfully. "Report," he orders.
"All's clear with Berk. They think I'm dead, their dragons are safe, and no dragon hunters are near their island or ours," I tell him and he nods in satisfaction. Then, Valka and Cloudjumper land next to us and Valka runs over before bowing respectfully.
"Sorry I'm late, we got hung up." Bewilderbeast nods in dismissal, telling her he doesn't mind.
"Report," he orders and I take my leave, going to Starfire's nest. She had hatchlings with a very charming Timberjack she met through a rescue.
"Hey, how're the kids?" I ask as I approach her nest, her babies squirming and crawling over her back.
"They went on their first fly today," she says affectionately as she gazed at her mate who was sleeping heavily a few Terrible Terror lengths away. "Would you please wake Sunblaze?" she asks and I walk over to the father of her offspring. I poke him with my peg leg and he doesn't move. I smirk and stand over his neck.
"FEEDING TIME!" I scream and he shoots up, lifting me off the ground when he lifts his head.
"DON'T LEAVE WITH OUT ME!" He roars and his children, mate, and I break out in laughter. He huffs in slight annoyance before shaking me off, causing me to fall 3ft before landing on my back, trying to catch my breath.
"Well, now that your awake, why don't you take the kids to meet Alpha?" Starfire asks.
"Yay! We get to meet Alpha!" The oldest hatchling, a bright red Timberjack named Sunkiss, exclaims as she crawls over her fathers tail. She resembled her father more than her mother in both looks and personality.
"Doesn't he have the ability to banish dragons?!" Sunkiss' slightly younger brother, a dark purple-black Timberjak named Moonbreak, says anxiously.
"Why would he do that? We just can't offend him!" Their sister, a dark blue Timberjack named Oceanmist, says happily. Their youngest brother, a black Timberjack, like his mother, named Nightclaw, stays silent. Without warning, the hatchlings fly out of the cave, ignoring their parents calls for them to come back. Well, except for Nightclaw. He comes back right away. His father leans his head next to his son.
"Remind me to add you to the 'favorites' spot on my list of kids," Sunblaze says before going to retrieve the rest of their family. I chuckle. I wonder if Hazel and Louis are like that...
