Revenge

Okay, this is my first one shot with HTTYD in a long time so I'm so sorry if its crappy.
Anyway, this is inspired by a HTTYD fan fiction called: Heirs and Traitors. It's written on Fanfiction.net and is so good. I don't know who wrote it.
And no, I did not completely copy it. I changed dialogue. The only similarity is the revenge on Hiccup, plot, and setting.
Enjoy!

Years ago, a man of the name Grimmel the Grisly hunted dragons for a living. His one and only desire was to wipe out the whole population, or to have them all bow down to him. But one scrawny viking from the isle of Berk ruined that chance. Grimmel faced a possible chance of death ten years ago, but somehow survived.

Since then, he traveled around the archipelago, sometimes even further, persuading people into joining him on finding the dragons. Throughout the years, he noticed that they were nowhere to be found but Grimmel knew of a person who knew where they had gone. And he was destined to get revenge on him.

Who, you may ask?

Hiccup Haddock.

----

A dark haired viking slowly opened his eyes, blinking at the bright light shining through the windows of the... boat? Why was he on a boat? How'd he get there? Last thing he remembered was eating dinner at the great hall then going back to his hut to sleep.

Then bam! He's kidnapped in his sleep and taken to a boat. A very... dark and creepy boat. Weapons cluttered the floor, cobwebs dangled from the ceiling, and a figure stood in the doorway.

Hold up. A figure stood in the doorway!

That figure stepped forward and into the light, brown eyes glared down at him.

"Where... am I?" He asked, shaking slightly at the man's gaze.

"On my boat," The man answered nonchalantly like it wasn't a big deal that he kidnapped an innocent young adult late last night. Oh, no biggy.

He nodded, trying to pull his arms from behind them but they wouldn't budge. Great, he was even tied to a wooden post. What was next? Torture? "I, uh, I see. And who is the captain of this boat? I'd like to speak with them."

The man rolled his eyes. "Not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you? I am the captain of this boat. Now, do you know why you are here?"

"Well, no. You kidnapped me while I was sleeping so no, I do not know why I am here." He looked around. "Why am I here?"

"Because, you are going to tell me the location of the dragons. Where'd they go?" The man said, walking around the room. "Some place called the Hidden World? I heard from a traveler while crossing the ocean. But, where is it?"

"Sorry, I don't know that information. All I know is ten years ago, this crazy man named Grimmel ordered his dragons to burn down Berk then we moved to another island. Then the crazy man came back, started a war, and poof, the dragons were gone."

The man raised an eyebrow. "Where are the dragons, boy?"

"I said, I don't know. And even if I did, why would I tell you?"

"Weren't you a dragon rider? You should know where your own dragon is, shouldn't you. Such a shame if you forgot about your... friend," The man taunted. "Now tell me."

"Um... I don't know."

The man huffed. "You did ride dragons with the fellow Berkians, including Chief Hiccup, the goody- two- shoes... I mean, shoe viking who tried to kill me, correct?"

"Uh, Chief Hiccup? He didn't try to kill yo- oh. You're Grimmel."

"Yes, I am. And if I do not find out where the dragons are, I will attack Berk again and kill that scrawny viking, and everything he loves-" The man was interrupted.

"Hold on, what did you say?"

"I will kill everything he loves most."

"No, before that. The part about killing him?"

"I will kill that scrawny viking!" Grimmel shouted.

"Yeah, that. First of all, he's not scrawny... anymore. Have you seen the beard he's grown over the past few years? It's so manly."

Grimmel growled. "Be quiet and tell me where the dragons are!"

"I can't if you told me to be quiet."

"Tell me where the dragons are!" Grimmel repeated.

"And I already said I don't know. Seriously, the only people who know where the Hidden World is are Hiccup and Astrid!"

Grimmel paused. "Astrid? The blonde haired viking? Had a Deadly Nadder, correct?"

"Yeah, Astrid, the chieftess."

"Chieftess you say?" Grimmel asked, a small menacing smile gracing his features. "She wouldn't happen to be married to Hiccup, now would she?"

"Uh, yeah, they are."

Grimmel nodded. "And if they're married, I suppose being the Chief and Chieftess, they'd have to produce an heir... or two?"

The young tied up viking paled. "Uh..."

"Wonderful. Bring me Hiccup Haddock. I would love to have a word or two with him," Grimmel shouted and then left the room, slamming and locking the door.

"Way to go Gustav. You endangered the Chief and his family," The young viking muttered.

-----

"Leaving so soon? You haven't even had breakfast," Astrid said from the kitchen where she was making... something. "And you haven't said bye to the kids."

Hiccup paused before opening the door. "It's an important meeting, I'm sorry."

"At least go say bye to the kids," Astrid said. "You know how upset they get when you just leave."

"They're still sleeping," Hiccup pointed out. "I don't want to wake them up. I'm sorry. I'll be home soon, okay?" He didn't wait for a response before walking outside and shutting the door.

Astrid huffed. "Okay."

A few minutes later two small feet paddered into the kitchen. Nuffink looked up at his mother who was looking very annoyed. Concerned, he asked, "Momma, are you okay?"

"Hm?" She glanced down at her five year old son and smiled. "Yeah, I'm alright. Would you like some breakfast? I promise it's not burnt this time."

Nuffink smiled and climbed into one of the four chairs that surrounded the table. "Yes, please." I

Astrid set a plate full of bacon, bread, and yogurt made of yak milk. "Where's your sister?"

"Up stairs," Nuffink replied with a mouth full. Astrid gave him a stern look. He swallowed and said, "Sorry."

"It's alright." She ruffled his blonde hair. "Is she still sleeping?"

"Nope. I think she's reading about dragons. Ever since we went to visit Toothless and Stormfly, she's been reading that book Dad gave her non-stop." Nuffink frowned. "Where is Dad?"

"He had to leave early. I'll be right back." Astrid left the kitchen to Zephyr's room upstairs. She knocked lightly on the door before pushing it open. Sure enough, she sat on her bed, the big book of dragons in her lap. "Hey, you want some breakfast?"

Zephyr looked up, her eyes a little teary. "Dad left early again, didn't he?" Astrid didn't answer, just stared. "He didn't even say bye."

"I'm sorry. I tried to get him to but he said you guys were still sleeping." Astrid walked across the room and sat down at the end of her bed. "You shouldn't let it bother you that much, Zeph. He still loves you."

"I know," Zephyr sighed. "Sometimes I wish he wasn't chief."

Astrid pursed her lips. "Well, being a chief is more than just keeping an eye on the village. There's more responsibilities such as, watching over his people, making sure the land is prosperous enough for us to live on, and so much more."

"He could at least say goodbye before he leaves," Zephyr said.

"Oh, don't worry about that. You know he's going to come home tonight and shower everyone with apologies. He loves you both very much, Zephyr, and you know he already makes exceptions for us." Astrid smiled and ran her fingers through her daughter's wild auburn hair.

Zephyr smiled. "I guess. He doesn't stay out past sundown."

"That's right." Astrid nodded. "Now, how about you get dressed and brush your hair while I get you some breakfast. Sounds good?" She stood from the bed.

"Yeah."

"I'll be downstairs."

Nuffink was already done with breakfast when she got downstairs. "It was good, Mom."

Astrid laughed. "Glad you thought so, Nuff. Dad passed up the offer."

"Dad's crazy." Nuffink shook his head.

"Yeah. How can someone pass up my cooking?" Astrid joked, sitting down in front of Nuffink and starting to eat.

"Hm, yeah," Nuffink laughed nervously.

"What?" Astrid raised an eyebrow.

Nuffink shrugged. "Nothing."

"Where's my plate?" Zephyr asked as she entered the kitchen, dressed in a spiked skirt and purple tank top, her hair still down in a wild frenzy.

Astrid stood and grabbed it off the wooden counter, handing it to her. "Eat up then I'll brush your hair, alright? Nuffink-" He looked up at her. "-go get dressed."

He saluted her before running upstairs.

"I'm done." Zephyr set her plate in the wash bin. "Do my hair?"

"Yeah. Go get your brush and hair bands, I'll be in the living room," Astrid told Zephyr before heading into the living room, plopping down on the couch, the tapestry of Stormfly on the wall in front of her. She smiled sadly. "I miss you, girl."

Zephyr appeared in front of her. "Who are you talking to?"

Astrid shook her head. "No one. Sit down."

Doing as she was told, Zephyr sat down in front of the couch and Astrid started brushing through the snarls. Zephyr winced every now and then as her mother tugged too hard. "Ow, Mom! Don't be so rough."

"Sorry." Astrid grimaced as she tugged on another snarl.

"Here." Zephyr passed her the hair ties.

"Thank you." She grabbed them and parted Zephyr's hair into two, putting it into a original viking hairstyle for young girls- two pony tails bunched up with hair ties,

Zephyr smiled. "Now can we go outside? I have a trap I want to make."
Astrid stood and sighed. "Zephyr, I told you no more traps, remember? You like dragons now."

"No, no, not for the dragons. For Dad." She smiled mischievously. "Payback for leaving."

"Okay, fine. Just this once."

Zephyr cheered and headed out the door.

"Nuffink, we're going outside!" Astrid shouted.

"Coming!" Was his response. He tumbled down the stairs while trying to get his boot on. Hopping right back up, he smiled. "I'm okay! Let's go!"

Astrid laughed and followed her kids outside.

------

"Enough!" Hiccup's voice rang through the Great Hall, silencing the people of the council only slightly. He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Tell me again what happened, slowly."

Spitelout spoke up, "That young boyo, Gustav, got into more trouble."

"What? How's this super important?" Hiccup asked. "Gustav always gets in trouble, that's nothing new. Now if this is all I came here to discuss, I'm leaving-"

"He was kidnapped," Gobber deadpanned.

Hiccup froze. "He was what?"

"Kidnapped. Late last night after everyone was in bed," Gobber informed him. "Parents said they woke up and he wasn't there. Worried sick those two."

"When did this happen?" Hiccup asked, sitting back down in his chair.

Spitelout looked up in thought. "Around midnight, I would say. I was awake around that time, and couldn't sleep. Saw someone walk into his house but thought nothing of it. I assumed it was one of his friends."

Hiccup nodded. "Was anyone else awake?"

"Only other house with a light on was yours, boyo," Spitelout said.

"Astrid was up with Zephyr who had a nightmare," Hiccup said. "I didn't see anything out of the ordinary."

Gobber picked at his tooth. "No one else saw anything?" The rest of the council shook their heads. "Alright. I suggest we stop the meeting, tell the people there has been a kidnapping, and then go home to stay safe."

"I agree," Hiccup said. "Spitelout, you tell everyone, I have to go check on my family."

"You got it," Spitelout told Hiccup before the young Chief left the Great Hall.

Hiccup limped slowly back to his house. He had a bad feeling about all the kidnapping talk going around. It set him on edge. If the person continued to take vikings from New Berk, who would be next? Zephyr? Nuffink? Astrid?

Suddenly, there was a tap on his shoulder.

Sighing, the tired, annoyed, hungry, auburn viking turned around. "What is it?"

A big burly man smiled menacingly. "Hello... Chief."

"Uh, do I know-"

Thunk.

The young chief fell to the ground, unconscious.

-----

Astrid glanced at the door during dinner. It was well past sunset and Hiccup should have been home by now. She couldn't help but start to worry. "He should be back by now."

Zephyr, noticing her mom's worriness, set her small hand over her bigger one. "It's alright, Mom. I'm sure he just got held back in the Great Hall. Maybe he didn't want your cooking." She snickered along with Nuffink.

"Hey!" Astrid scolded, though a smile played at her lips. "My cooking is tolerable."

"I was only joking," Zephyr laughed. "But don't worry, I'm sure he's fine."

Nuffink nodded. "Yeah, Momma, he'll be home soon!"

"You guys are right." She gave them each a smile. "What would I do without you two?"

"Lose your mind?" Zephyr offered.

Astrid scoffed. "No. Alright, when you guys are done go get pajamas on and I'll read you two a story, alright?"

The kids nodded, finished dinner quickly, and headed upstairs to change.

Five minutes later, Nuffink called down to her, "Momma! I need a bit of help!"

Laughing, Astrid headed upstairs to see what her son had gotten himself into this time. She pushed open the door to his room and smiled at the sight. His yellow shirt was almost off except for his arms which were stuck in the sleeves. "Oh, Nuffink."

"Help?" He gave her a goofy smile, Hiccup's smile.

"Of course." She gently pulled the shirt off his arms, careful not to hurt him. "Where's your other shirt?" He handed her a blue long sleeved tunic which she pulled over his head.

"Thanks!" He hugged her. "What story are you reading us?"

Astrid stood with him in her arms. "I was thinking of a book your father wrote for Zephyr before she was born. I just remembered about it today."

"Cool! Did he make me a book?" Nuffink asked.

"Mmm, maybe." Astrid kissed the top of his head before waking to her and Hiccup's room, grabbing the book from the drawer of his bedside table. Then she headed downstairs into the living room where she plopped down on the couch with Nuffink on her lap.

Zephyr, who was next to her, peered over at the book cover. "That's my name."

"Dad wrote it for you before you were born. We both forgot about it," Astrid said and opened the book to begin reading. "I was fifteen when I shot down my first dragon..."

By the time she was done reading, Nuffink was asleep but Zephyr was still awake, looking through the varieties of pictures Hiccup drew.

"Wow, who knew he could draw and write so good," Zephyr said as she closed the book. "Can I keep this in my room?"

"Yes," Astrid answered as she stood up, Nuffink still asleep in her arms. "Head up for bed. I'll be there in a minute to tuck you in."

She sent her a thumbs up before heading up to her room.

Once Nuffink was in his bed, cuddled up in furs, Astrid shut his door and headed across the hallway to Zephyr's room. "Hey," She greeted as she entered.

Zephyr looked up from the stuffed dragon Hiccup gave her. "Hi."

Astrid pulled the furs up to Zephyr's chin, kissing the top of her head. "Love you, Zeph. Come get me if you have another nightmare, okay?"

"Okay. Love you too, Mom." Zephyr smiled.

"Good night." Astrid blew the candle out, darkness enveloping the room, and shut the door.

-------

Hiccup opened his eyes, his head pounding. "Where am I?" He tugged his arms upwards but found himself tied up in a... boat? He groaned and threw his head back against the wall. "Not again."

"Excellent you're awake," A man said with a heavy accent.

"Great," Hiccup muttered under his breath. "Who are you and what do you want?"

"An old enemy," Came the man's reply. "I'm surprised you haven't recognized my voice, Hiccup Haddock. Besides that, do you know why you're here?"

"Uh, I would say the twins did something stupid and I have to clean up the mess but considering a young viking was kidnapped last night, I'd say that it had something to do with me," Hiccup replied without hesistation.

The man hummed. "Very good. I need information."

"Information about what? Original ideas? Do you know how many times I've been kidnapped and put into a boat? So many times." Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Now, please, get on with it."

"I need information about the Hidden World," The man said.

Hiccup was taken aback. "The- the Hidden- what?"

"The Hidden World."

"What's that? Never heard of it? Where'd you hear that silly tale?" Hiccup asked.

"Don't be difficult. Nothing ever good comes from that," The man said.

"Okay, first of all, who are you?" Hiccup squinted, trying to see the figure more clearly in the dim light.

The man laughed lightly then stepped into the light. "I already told you, an old enemy."

Hiccup groaned. "Great. You're back. Let me guess, you want me to tell you where the Hidden World is so you can go there and wipe dragons from existence?"

"Uh, yes, pretty much," Grimmel replied. "Now, tell me where it is or I'll kill everything you love-"

"You said that last time and never did," Hiccup said.

"I'm more vengeful now," Grimmel said. "Now, tell me where the Hidden World is or I'll kill everything you love, starting with your wife and children."

Hiccup narrowed his eyes. "How do you know about them?"

Grimmel smirked. "Gustav told me about your wife."

"How do you know I have children?"

"Because, Hiccup, you just made it very clear you had kids."

Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Gustav told you, didn't he?"

"Gustav?"

"Yeah, scrawny viking, annoying, brown hair, did I mention annoying?" Hiccup asked.

"Hey! I heard that!" A voice shouted from the corner.

Hiccup nodded. "Yup. He told you."

"I'm sorry, Hiccup," Gustav apologized. "I didn't mean to tell them about Astrid, or Zephyr, or Nuffink-"

Grimmel raised his eyebrows. "Zephyr and Nuffink? I assume that's your daughter and son, no?"

Hiccup glared at Gustav. "Really!?"

"Now, Hiccup, where is the Hidden World?" Hiccup didn't reply. "Fine, I will kill your family and destroy the place you call home, New Berk," Grimmel said before slamming the door.

Hiccup sighed and slumped against the wall. "Before you say anything, Gustav, we'll talk about it later. First, we have to get out of here."

------

Astrid woke to someone tapping her shoulder. She sat up and took in her surroundings, couch, chair, fire place, tapestry, she had fallen asleep in the living room waiting for Hiccup to come home. "What?"

"Mom," Zephyr's voice reached her ears. "Mom!"

"What?" Astrid asked, seeing her kids in front of her, looking really worried.

"Dad's not home," Nuffink said, sounding like he was going to cry. "Did he leave us?"

"Oh, no, no." Astrid opened her arms, Zephyr and Nuffink falling into them. She pressed a kiss to both their foreheads before continuing, "He didn't leave us. I promise."

Zephyr bit her lip and pulled back. "Where is he then?"

"I don't know." Astrid stood and grabbed her ax out of the chest beside the couch.

"Why do you need that?" Zephyr asked, her arms crossed.

"A precaution. Zephyr, I need you to stay here and watch Nuffink. Okay? I don't know how long I'll be gone. I'll be home before night fall, I promise," Astrid said.

Nuffink wrapped his arms around her legs. "Don't go."

"I have to. I'm sorry." Astrid smiled sadly. "Zeph, you know where the food is right?" She nodded. "Okay, eat whatever, I don't care. I'll be back soon. Don't leave the house."

Zephyr nodded. "Okay."

Astrid knelt down and wrapped them in a hug. "I love you guys."

"We love you too," They both replied at the same time.

"Be good. Clean up your messes, don't do anything stupid, got it?" Astrid said, walking over to the door.

"Yes, Mom," Zephyr replied before Astrid left.

-------

"You checked the great hall? He's not in another meeting and I just wasn't awake to see him come home?" Astrid asked Fishlegs.

"Yes, Astrid. I've checked the great hall, the arena, everywhere!" He counted on his fingers.

Astrid nodded, taking a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I'm getting a bit worried. It's not everyday that your husband who taps danger on the back goes missing."

Then Snotlout walked over. "Sorry I'm late. I was enjoying not being here."

"Hiccup is missing, Snotlout!" She growled. "He could be hurt or worse and I'd advise you to shut your mouth before you join him, okay?" She pointed her axe at his throat.

He held up his hands in surrender. "Sorry."

"Astrid! Fishlegs! Snotlout!" Tuffnut shouted, running over to them.

"Tuff!" Astrid groaned. "You're supposed to be searching the North side."

He nodded, panting. "Yes, I know, but I thought you would like to know that New Berk is under attack!" He waved his hands around in the air of emphasis. "Just look!"

Astrid at the sky just in time to see a boulder heading her way. "Move!" She shouted to everyone around her. They jumped out of the way right as the boulder landed in the town square. "What-?"

"What do we do!?" A villager cried as another boulder landed on the forge.

Astrid stared at the forge, not believing what just happened. Zephyr's new invention that she had been working on for the past month was in there, now it was destroyed. She was so excited to show her and Hiccup.

"Chieftess?" Another Villager said. "What do we do!?"

"Fire back. Don't let them win," Astrid informed everyone around her. "Get the catapults ready and get the people ready for battle. They probably have Hiccup so be careful!"

------

"No!" Hiccup shouted as he heard a crash and the shouts of angry vikings.

Gustav blinked his eyes open. "What's happening?"

"They're attacking Berk."

------

"Roar!" Nuffink shouted as he held two toy dragons carved out of wood above his head, jerking them toward each other like they were attacking one another. He stopped, however, when he heard a tap on the window. He glanced up and dropped his toys. "Zephyr!"

"Hold on, Nuffink," she shouted from the kitchen where she was busy doing the dishes.

"Zephyr!" He shouted again, never taking his eyes off the man behind the window.

"What, Nuffink!" Zephyr yelled and came into the living room. "What do you want?"

Nuffink pointed to the window where the man smiled wickedly. "There's someone outside."

"Huh," Zephyr muttered and looked out the window. The man waved to her and she shrieked. "Upstairs, now." They both ran upstairs, not knowing that the door was unlocked.

Nuffink settled against his sister's side as they hid behind her bed. "Zephyr, I'm scared."

"It's going to be okay, Nuff," She whispered and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

The door swung open and they gasped.

"Or is it?" The man asked, standing in the doorway. "You left the door unlocked. Now, you must be Zephyr and Nuffink. The children of Astrid and Hiccup Haddock? Beautiful children, you both are."

"What do you want?" Zephyr asked confidently, holding her brother tighter.

The man laughed. "Feisty just like your mother. My name is Grimmel the Grisly and I need you two to come with me."

"Momma said never to go with strangers," Nuffink spat.

"I'm afraid you're mistaken," Grimmel said. "I'm an old friend. As you can see, your home is under attack." The kids nodded. "I'm here to help. Your mother sent me to bring you to a safer place."

Zephyr gave him a skeptical glance. "Uh, okay. Come on, Nuffink. Mom sent him." She stood and grabbed his hand then together, they followed Grimmel downstairs.

"Now, now, where do you parents keep the weapons, hm?" Grimmel asked, rummaging around the living room. He saw their faces. "I'm not going to hurt you. It's to keep you safe."

"Right there." Zephyr hesitantly pointed to the chest beside the couch.

"Good girl," Grimmel muttered and opened it, taking out a sword. "This will do. Follow me."

Zephyr and Nuffink followed without a word.

-----

Astrid fell against a house. "Ow," She muttered and stood back up, not checking to see if she was bleeding anywhere. Getting back into a fighting stance, she shouted at a dragon hunter, "Come on, you ugly mutton head! Is that all you got?" He swung but Astrid blocked him with her axe.

"MOMMA!" Astrid's grip slackened when she heard Nuffink's shout. Her attacker managed to cut a long line down her amr.

Valka, her mother-in-law, who was fighting beside her, heard it too. She finished off her attacker and turned around, letting out a small gasp. "Astrid, the kids!"

With one last battle cry, Astrid finished the dragon hunter and turned around, letting out what seemed like a gasp and a scream. Grimmel the Grisly was back and was holding a sword up to both Zephyr and Nuffink's throats. "Grimmel!" She yelled out of pure rage.

Grimmel laughed humorlessly. "It's funny how gullible kids nowadays are, isn't that right, Astrid?" She growled and took a step forward. "Ah, ah, ah, I'm not going to hurt them, that is, if you don't stop me."

"And what makes you think we won't do that?" Valka stepped in.

"Ah, you must be the grandmother," Grimmel said. "You won't stop me from taking them to the same ship that your husband is on." Astrid gritted her teeth. "If you do stop me, you can say goodbye to your children."

"And if I don't stop you?" Astrid asked, her hands clenched into fists.

Grimmel smiled. "They live and will come with me to find the Hidden World. No harm will come to them, I'll treat them well. But, I need a favor from you."

"And what would that be?" Astrid asked.

"Your cloak." Grimmel stretched his hand out. "Something for the kids to take with them, so they have something from their mother."

Astrid glared and handed over her white fur cloak. "Fine. Go."

"Mom!" Zephyr cried. "What?"

"I'm sorry, honey." Astrid gave a small smile. "Go. It's going to be okay."

Zephyr nodded but didn't say another word, allowing Grimmel to lead her and Nuffink to the boat.

Astrid watched them go, tears in her eyes, but she blinked them away once they disappeared inside. "Valka-"

"You have a plan, don't you?" She set her hand on Astrid's shoulder.

"Why wouldn't I? You think I'd let him take my kids just like that? No, I'm going after them," She told Valka before sprinting full speed toward the boat.

-----

"Yes!" Hiccup cheered when he finally managed to untie his hands. However, the celebration was cut short when the door flew open. "Great." He slumped back down against the walls and closed his eyes.

"Dad!"

His eyes shot open.

On the other side of the cell, Grimmel stood there, holding onto Zephyr and Nuffink's shoulders, keeping them from running away. "Hm. I see you got your hands untied." He shrugged and opened the cell door. Hiccup tried to surge forward. "I wouldn't do that if I were you."

Hiccup glared. "Give me my kids."

Grimmel pursed his lips. "Have your little rats." He pushed them into the cell then slammed and locked the door. They ran over to Hiccup, hiding behind his legs. "Oh, and before I forget, your wife put up a fight but I took care of it." He threw her cloak in between the bars before walking away.

"No," He whispered.

"Dad!" Nuffink snapped him out of his train of thought.

He tore his eyes away from the cloak that laid on the ground, blood on the top half, and knelt down in front of his kids. "Are you guys ago? He didn't hurt you did he?" He kissed both of their foreheads.

"No, we're okay," Zephyr said. "He tricked us."

"How?" Hiccup asked, still inspecting them for injuries.

"He said Mom sent him to get us," Nuffink replied.

Hiccup nodded. "Next time, don't listen to strangers."

"Okay," Zephyr replied. "And, about Mom-"

"Is she really-?" Hiccup asked his daughter.

Nuffink was about to respond when a war cry erupted and a guard was sent flying across the hall, unconscious.

"I'll take that as a no," Hiccup muttered and stood. "Astrid?!"

She appeared in front of the cell, holding up the keys. "Hey."

"Thank the gods," Hiccup breathed in relief. "He told me- grimmel said he killed you and I thought- I thought that you-"

Astrid held up a finger silencing him. "Sh, I didn't kill him-" She peered behind his shoulder at Zephyr and Nuffink to find them unharmed. She sighed. "-just knocked him out so be quiet." She unlocked the door, opening it. "Come on, before they get down here."

Hiccup nodded and grabbed Zephyr, holding her in his arms while Astrid did the same with Nuffink. "Run? Fight? Do whatever?"

"You're an idiot," Astrid muttered. "Be stealthy."

They walked up the stairs silently and peered up at the deck, five guards were beaten up and on the floor, unconscious, while Grimmel shouted at another Guard as to what happened.

"I-I don't know, sir!" The guard squeaked. "This woman, tall, blonde, blue eyes, beautiful, she came in and destroyed half the men!"

Grimmel narrowed his eyes and turned around, spotting Hiccup and Astrid trying to escape.

"He really had to rat me out like that," Astrid said with a roll of her eyes. She set Nuffink down next to Zephyr and spun her axe in the air, earning a 'woah' from Nuffink. "Just like old times?"

Hiccup laughed quietly. "Just like old times."

They charged.

-----

Somewhere, very far away, a black creature laid awake while his family slept around him. The unease grew upon him, something wasn't right. Spreading out his wings, he took off and called for an old friend to follow.

-----

"Arghhh!" Astrid yelled as she charged a guard, hitting him in the chest with the butt of her axe.

Beside her, Hiccup had taken out a couple guards already with nothing but a broom. The young viking forgot to attach inferno to his leg the other morning so he was weaponless. Astrid would beat him up for it later.

They fought with everything they had, being careful not to let anyone near their terrified kids behind them. Oh, and they also had Gustav guarding them.

Suddenly a high pitched whistle cut through the air and Zephyr shouted, "Night Fury!"

A plasma blast was fired, hitting the ship in the center before finishing off Grimmel and his men.

"Toothless!" Hiccup exclaimed as his old friend landed on the sinking boat in front of him and Astrid. "Hey, nice to see you again, Bud, but do you mind bringing the kids back to Berk?" He peered behind Hiccup and smiled, gurgling. "Great."

Astrid grabbed Zephyr and Nuffink, and plopped them down on Toothless's back. "Gustav, get on with them." He did as he was told. "Hold on tight." She turned to Toothless and gave him a good scratch under his chin. "Go slow." He smiled.

"Mom, how are you and Dad getting back?" Zephyr asked as the boat continued to sink.

"We'll be fine," Astrid responded. "Alright, Toothless, get them out of here and finish off the rest of them, got it?" Toothless gave a slight nod then took off into the sky.

Hiccup turned Astrid, a bright smile on his face. "How do you suppose we get out of here?"

A squawk sounded from above before Stormfly landed beside them.

"How about my dragon?" Astrid asked, already climbing onto her back. She stretched out her hand for HIccup who took it gratefully and she pulled him up. "Okay, girl, bring us back to Berk."

------

The battle was done.

Grimmel and his men were all dead.

Toothless and Stormfly headed back to the Hidden World since they both had families of their own that they had to take care of.

A couple hours after everything was cleaned up, Hiccup and Astrid brought the kids to Fishlegs to get checked over since no one was at the house to see what happened. He had made the worried parents wait outside until he was done.

"Would you stop pacing?" Astrid asked from where she stood against the wall.

Hiccup stopped and looked at her for a long time.

"What?" She finally asked, crossing her arms.

"I'm sorry," Is all he said, coming to stand right in front of her.

She furrowed her eyebrows. "For what? Hiccup, it's not your fault you got kidnapped for like the twentieth time in your lifetime. You didn't know."

"I know but If I just would have stayed home a little longer, this probably never would have happened. Well, the attacking part would have but I could have stopped Grimmel from taking Zephyr and Nuffink, then he wouldn't have lied to me saying you were dead and-"

Astrid shut him up with a kiss. She pulled away and smiled. "Sometimes you need to shut up and accept that none of this was your fault."

Hiccup was about to kiss her again when the door to Fishlegs's house opened.

"No injuries," He informed them as Zephyr and Nuffink ran over to their parents.

"Thank gods," Astrid muttered. "Thank you, Fishlegs. Have a good night."

"You too," He replied before shutting the door.

"Momma?" Nuffink asked from beside her, he was holding her hand. She hummed in response. "Who was that man? Grimmel?"

Astrid shared a look with Hiccup and he said, "Once we get home we'll tell you the story of Grimmel the Grisly which is also mixed with why the dragons aren't here anymore, alright?"

"Okay!" Nuffink said.

Hiccup reached over and grabbed Astrid's hand, giving it a squeeze, and felt a new found love for his family, one much stronger than he had just a couple days ago.

Sometimes, it takes one bad event to realize just how valuable a family really is.
