Training: so the Riders can beat up Johann

This chapter is hinting what might happen in future chapters, and is also a way for me to practice writing fighting scenes.

Normal POV:

"No, no, no.  Ruff, I want you to send the gas in the direction of the targets, not at Snotlout, even though there's hardly a difference between the two." Amber shouted from the raised platform she was on.  Ruff snickered at her words, but did what she was told.  "Tuff, stop trying to blind the others with the sparks."

"But, Amber....." he whined like a little kid.  "It's so fun!"

"Do that later, I don't want to be the only one to beat up Johann the next time we see him." she said before turning her attention to Hiccup and Astrid, who were sparring with each other.

"You two work well together." Amber said.  "Hiccup, I know you're left handed, but you need to be able to use your right hand as well." She corrected his posture and grip on a replica of Inferno.  "Hold it like this, and then imagine that the weapon is an extension from your arm."

"So like this?" Hiccup weakly swung the blade at a dummy with Johann's face painted on it.  The blade stuck in the dummy's torso.  "Why do all the dummies have Johann's face on it?"

"Well, I could change it to a different enemy's face." Amber offered, twirling a paintbrush.

"Yeah." Astrid called.  "That'd be great.  It's disturbing that we're cutting up Johann dummies.  He is only an innocent trader caught up in our nonsense."

"You know nothing of the world, if you really meant that." Amber said, turning on her iPad and loading up Netflix.

"What are you doing?" Fishlegs asked.  "I thought you were helping us with fighting techniques and controlling our hybrid powers."

"I am," she said and connected the iPad to the TV.  "Which is why I'm showing you Race to the Edge, season 5, episode 13."

After Amber shows the gang why Johann is a filthy, backstabbing, cunning and evil piece of **** and after they had a huge argument about it that resulted in an angry Hybrid Gang.

"I am only gonna say this once." Amber said, once everyone calmed down.  "Johann is a traitor and he was the piece of filth that caused you so many run-ins with the Hunters and Dagur in the past."

"I thought you only said that Azog was the piece of filth." Viggo's ghost said, walking out from the wall.

"OK, he is a piece of filth, but Johann is as well."

"Ok, we get it." Snotlout grumbled.  "Also, that show you showed us, Race to the Dragon's Edge, or something, showed the Girl Hookfang vs Titan Wing thingy and had all the details, so I believe you."

"Wow," Astrid said.  "I never thought that I'd hear Snotlout say he believes someone...even if that someone is a weapons-obsessed, crazy, hybrid telekinetic girl who can resurrect dead people."

"I'll take that as a compliment." Amber said.  "Now, back to training."

Astrid practically took off at the dummies, taking out her axe and slicing the heads and arms off of every dummy in her training section while Hiccup and the others just stared at her in confusion and shock.  They jumped when Astrid shot a stream of magnesium flame and completely obliterated the dummies.

"What?" she asked, not even out of breath.

"Damn..." Tuff whistled when he saw the charred and half-destroyed dummies.

"Oh, that?" she asked.  "I guess I got too enthusiastic at taking out Johann-dummies now that I know he's a traitor."

"Right." Ruff deadpanned and turned away to surround some dummies with a cloud of Zippleback gas while her brother sparked it.

"Aren't you gonna train with us, Amber?" Fishlegs asked after he managed to burn down two Johann-dummies with fireballs.

"Yeah, in a bit." she said, sharpening her arrows.

"Why not now?" Snotlout asked, cutting some limbs off of a group of dummies.

"I'm----"

"Are you scared that I could beat you in a fight, no sweat?" he asked confidently, not realizing that he's digging his own grave.

"Ooh, you shouldn't have done that." Ruff sang.

"She's gonna kick your butt now." Tuff added.

Amber growled under her breath and unsheathed two long, hunting knives.  Snotlout paled when he saw the murderous glint in her eyes.

"First one to yield, loses, and has to do what the winner says for 24 hours." Astrid called, her competitive spirit showing.

"Done." Amber said, twirling her blades.

"Y-yeah..." Snotlout managed to get out, as he now sees how hopeless his current situation was.

"Any weapons and powers are allowed." Fishlegs added.  "Amber, no self levitating or weird mind control though."

"Fine by me." she shrugged.

"Ok, umm...on our count, I guess." Hiccup said awkwardly.  "Ruff, Tuff?"

The twins created a mini explosion in mid-air, which signaled the start of the fight.

The two circled each other, like two predators fighting over their prey.  Snotlout was thinking about how he should disarm Amber and then use strength to win, while Amber thought that she only needed to incapacitate her opponent.

With a cry, Snotlout launched himself at Amber, his sword above his head.  She expected this, and rolled under the sweeping blade in a summersault.  She spun around and raised her knives, just in time for them to block the sword that would've cut her neck.  She pushed the blades back, causing Snotlout to stumble and lose his footing, which allowed her to throw a knife at his head.

"Is this really necessary?" Snotlout managed to say between breaths.  "I mean, she almost killed me!"  He yelped and brought up his sword to block another knife.

"You insulted me." Amber said, not even panting a bit.  "And many people don't get away with doing so."

Snotlout tried to use his Nightmare powers and shot a fireball at Amber.  It hit her shoulder, causing the twins to cheer and wave pom-poms around.

"Where did they get pom-poms?" Amber muttered to herself.

"How is she not affected by the fire?" Astrid wondered.

"She can control fire, right?" FIshlegs asked.

"Yeah."  Hiccup said.  "That must explain her immunity."

The two were still fighting, although it was evident that Snotlout was tiring.  Amber noticed this and drew her sword, tossing her hunting knives aside.  Snotlout saw this and took this opportunity to catch his breath and also snag a knife from the many that were scattered around them.  He heard a battle cry and looked up to see a sword slicing down towards him.  He blocked the strike with the hilt of the knife.  To say that Amber looked shocked would be an understatement.  Because that "was a move only the quickest and most skilled knife fighter could've managed" (Riordan, p.333).  Snotlout took her shock as an advantage and tried to slash at her arm, but she recovered quicker than he thought and stopped the blade from going into her arm with her sword.

She twisted her blade and the knife clattered out of his grip.  He reached for the knife, only to have Amber's steel-soled combat boot stomp down on his hand.  He shouted in pain when the sole dug into his skin and turned his head to see Amber's triumphant expression above him with her sword to his neck.

"Yield?" she asked.

"Y-yes.  Can you not step on my hand?" he asked weakly.

"And that's how it's done, folks!" Amber exclaimed with excitement, helping Snotlout up.  "Who's next?"  She picked up all the knives on the ground and proceeded to sheath them on her belt, in hidden pockets in her clothes and on her arms.

"Ooh, ME!!" Ruff shouted, waving her hand in the air.

"No, me!!!" Tuff shoved his sister's face.

"You can both train with me, but since you're busy bickering, I'll go get something to eat." Amber said and left the room.  "Keep training!!  I don't want you all to end up like Snotlout."
