Going to the Movie Theater

Disclaimer:  The time goes faster in this book than in the real world.  Some of the movies mentioned in this chapter have already been released for a very long time, so keep that in mind.

Amber's POV:

The year of 2019 seemed to be going well for everyone.  Well, if you could count dinosaurs, demigods and dwarves messing up your house as doing well, then I'm doing great!  The Riders have gotten over their shock in being transported to another dimension, and have gotten along with the Hybrids pretty well.  Or, as well as a Viking could get on with a Hybrid, that is.

The twins seemed to enjoy the new hybrid powers they got as zipplebacks, with Ruff being able to summon and control the gas, while her brother could snap his fingers and sparks would fly off and ignite the gas.  Astrid grew Nadder wings and a tail, which could disappear and reappear any time she wants.  She could also shoot magnesium flames from her palms as well as control her tail to shoot spikes.  This was the case with Fishlegs, Hiccup and Snotlout, only they had the features and powers of their respective dragons.

I decided to go to the movies, to watch something because I don't want to stay in the house full of lunatics.  Besides, I have coupons for the movie theater and I want to use them because the food there is expensive.

"Guys?  I'm going out." I said.

"With who?" was Ruff's immediate response.  That got a laugh out of most of the Riders and a glare from me.  I was going to answer but was cut off when Delta ran past with Leo on his back.  I'm not gonna ask why demigods are riding dinosaurs, because to be honest, that's a pretty normal thing in my house.

"With myself, Miss Ruffnut." I said, mocking Johann's voice.   "I've had enough of demigods, hybrids and dinosaurs for one day."

"We're not that bad!" Snotlout protested.

"I didn't mean you." I said, pausing.  "Or maybe I did.  You can never know what goes on in my head." I turned away to grab my bag.

"Can we go with you?" Fishlegs asked.

"I don't see why not." I said.  "Let's go to the bus stop."

"Is that the place where Johann showed up and you threw him out of the bus?" Tuff asked.

"Yes."

"Do we need those orange and blue cards that some people at the mall were carrying?" Hiccup asked.

"No."

"Why not?" Astrid asked.

"Because."

We walked to the bus stop shivering slightly because it was still winter and because I was a bit sick.  The bus showed up and guess who was driving it?

Johann!!!  How amazing.......not.

The bus was a double decker with an open roof.  How did the traitor even get his filthy hands on a bus like this?  How did he escape the Occamies and leave the suitcase?

"Welcome Dragon Riders!" Johann said with a fake smile.

"Hi Johann!" Tuff waved.

"Tuff, don't interact with the enemy." I said.

"Ms. Amber, I am wounded that you think of me in such a way." he said with false hurt, but his eyes showed fear that I knew his true intentions.

"Shut up Johann.  I have to go to the movie theater.  I want to watch Jurassic World, the Fallen Kingdom." I grumbled.  (I am aware that the Fallen Kingdom came out quite some time ago, but I really, really liked that movie, even though it was sad.)

"Oh, what a beautiful movie that is!" Johann said dramatically.  "The dinosaurs have proven to be---"

"Just shut up." I said and dragged Johann to the top of the bus, with the open roof, and threw him down into the busy streets below.

The Riders all winced at the sound of Johann hitting the pavement, but I took no notice of it.

"Amber." Snotlout called while I was searching for the quickest route to the theater.  "Why are the streets flooding?"

"I think it's because Johann fell into the sewers, and he clogged up something, which caused all the melted snow to build up and flood the streets." I said.  "It's no big deal, really."

"How is it no big deal?" Hiccup asked.  "There is water leaking into the lower level of the bus."

"Oh well...." I said.

"Umm....I'm really concerned." Astrid said nervously.  "The water is ankle high...."

"Yeah you're right." I said and exited the bus.  "We could go on the river path!"

"Why would you go on a river path to the theater?" Ruff asked.

"Why not?" I said.  "Besides, it's fun.  I promise."

"Why are we going on the river path?" Tuff asked.  He pointed to the theater, which was a mile or two away.  "Isn't that the theater right there?"

"How can you see that far?" his sister asked.

"We're taking the river path because it's the scenic route." I said.

"Oh, that's great!" Hiccup said enthusiastically.  "I love scenic routes!"

"How do we take this route?" Fishlegs asked.  "By dragon?"

"We shift into hybrids?" Hiccup asked.  "You do that weird self levitation thing and do the same to us?"

"Barrels?" Tuff pointed to some tied to the dock.

"Barrels?!" everyone else exclaimed.

"That's ridiculous." Ruff said.

"Yeah, who would ride barrels to go to the movie theater?" Snotlout scoffed.

"Me." I said.

"Aside from you." he retorted.

"My friends." I said.  "They said it was fun, so I thought I'd try it."

Despite their protests, I managed to stuff them into the barrels and they got swept away by the current in the direction of the theater.  I turned into a Deathwing and flew after them.

"You said this was fun!" Hiccup protested and got dunked under the water.

"It is, Hiccup." Ruff said.  "We should do this back on Berk when we return."

"If we return, that is..." Snotlout grumbled.

"Hey, at least we're almost there." I said.

"May I ask why this river connects to the theater?" Fishlegs shouted.

"I cut a new channel, like what you did with the glowing algae." I said like it was obvious.

"You don't just cut a new channel!" Astrid exclaimed.  "We only did that because we don't want the Flightmare to paralyze everyone."

"Yeah, we only do that in an emergency." Hiccup said once the current slowed down.

"Well, my friends decided that a traffic jam was an emergency so they told me, more like threatened me, to cut the channel." I said.  "And those dinosaurs sided with them!  Said something about free rats in the theater or something."

"Am I the only person who thinks that the average city is not supposed to have rivers leading to theaters and dinosaurs living in houses?" Snotlout asked.

"Wow!" I said sarcastically.  "Point to Snotlout for finally figuring it out!"

"You couldn't be that oblivious." Hiccup said.  "I mean, she is a shapeshifter, has powers and just stuffed us into barrels to go to the theater."

"You mean everyone already knew?" Snotlout asked.

"Yes." everyone said.

We arrived at the theater just in time.  And by that I mean that the movie hasn't started yet and there was still time to get food.  We did get food, about four large bags of popcorn and a large drink for everyone.  I still don't understand why they needed the largest size for the food and drink.  At least I didn't have to bargain with the cashier over the best prices for rats.  Never again am I taking dinosaurs to the theater.

"We're going to watch Jurassic World now." I said.  "Please don't get lost.  I had to spend two hours looking for my friend the last time because he couldn't find the bathrooms."

After the movie is over

"That was so sad..." I mumbled.

"Is she ok?" Astrid asked.

"No.  They died, and that lone dinosaur was there and it was all alone and it died and the volcano erupted and they almost died and the little girl set the dinosaurs free and then they ate the bad guy." I rambled.

"I think we should go home." Tuff said.  "People are looking concerned."

"Yeah." Hiccup said and we all left the theater quickly.
