Lost in Fog

I soared on, my mind wandering about where to go. My mind wandered back to Dragons Edge. I smiled at the memories I had made there. Toothless, Astrid, Hiccup. "No! You need to forget him!" I scolded myself. I left him five years ago and I still think of him like it was yesterday. I heard an arrow whistle past my ear and I looked down. Another arrow pierced my prosthetic tail and a giant hole was ripped into the black fabric. I felt myself start plummeting and a bola wrapped around me. I crashed to the ground and was untied. I clawed the nearest hunter and pounced on the next. I twirled as arrows missed me. A sword lashed out at me and struck my shoulder. I turned my head to use my magic but I was struck in the chest. I gasped and fell to the sandy ground. I heard a small rustle from the trees that grew on the rock arch above and a Zippleback flew out of the trees. I was kicked in the face. My head spun, I tried to stand but my knees buckled. Dark shadows loomed in the corners of my vision. Not again! I pleaded. The hunter went to kick me again and I sprawled on the ground. A dragon call sounded in the distance and I lifted my head to reply, but my head fell to the ground and I slowly passed out.

Hiccup POV

I was back at the Edge with Fishlegs while Astrid, Snotlout, and the twins patrolled the nearby stone arch. A dragon landed outside my hut and the door flung open. The twins stood their, Tuffnut gasped for air and said, "we went patrolling and we saw hunters land and make camp so we decided to watch them then this girl flew down on her own and the hunters attacked her. We think it's Bekah." Tuffnut took another deep breath but me and Toothless were out the door, Fishlegs and Meatlug not far behind.

We got there and sure enough a figure who looked like Bekah was sprawled out on the sand, a hunter kicking her in the face. Toothless let out a cry and the figures head dropped. The hunters saw us coming and ran to their raft, not bothering to grab their stuff. Toothless looked over at the figure and he gestured to her. I knelt down and heard wing beats behind me. The rest of the riders gathered around behind me as I turned the girl's head to see her face. I gasped and motioned for Fishlegs to stand next to me. "It's her," I whispered. I propped her up against the rocks and Fishlegs examined her.

Toothless POV

I looked at the humans trying to fix the girl. I groaned and nudged my way through. I licked the wound on her shoulder and she smiled and laughed. I softly licked her face and her eyes blinked open. She saw me but her still blurry vision allowed her to only see that. She gasped and her eyes widened as she started to panic. I tickled her stomach with my tail to show I meant no harm and she giggled and stroked my head. "Hi," I warbled to her. She smiled and roared back, "Hi! My name's Bekah! What's yours?" I showed her my prosthetic tail and she cocked her head. "Toothless?" She whispered. I nodded my head and she looked even more confused. Her vision must have been back to normal because she looked up at Hiccup. She stood and blinked at him. "Hiccup?" She sounded really confused. She shook her head. "No, no you're not here. You're not real!" She cried. Snotlout whistled and said "that's gotta hurt." But Hiccup didn't look hurt, he looked surprisingly calm like he knew what she was going through. "Bekah! Listen to me," He grasped her wrists, "do I look fake? You can hear me and see me so I'm not fake." He soothed.

"No! You are! I'm hallucinating again! This is all a dream!" She cried.

"If I was a dream would you feel me holding you? Would you feel Toothless healing you?" Hiccup pointed out.

"They've been that powerful before, I think I hear you or feel you by my side but when I look you fade away!" She sobbed. Hiccup let her go and mounted me. "Come back with us at least, even if we are a hallucination, it would help to see your old friends again." Hiccup offered. She shook her head, "I left you for a reason Hiccup, I still think of you and how we used to be. It's been what, two years?" She cocked her head.

"Five years." Hiccup corrected. Bekah's ears perked up and her eyebrows raised. "Well still, it's been five years and I still want to fall in love with you again so I can't go back until I forget this nonsense!" She exclaimed and tried to take off into the air. She plummeted back down and moaned. "Stupid fabric prosthetic!" She cursed. We walked over and saw that where her normal tail fin had been there was a black prosthetic with a few holes and tears in it from the fighting. Astrid gasped. "Bekah! Your tail!" She exclaimed. Hiccup looked at Astrid, then to the riders. "We heard a few years ago that some pirates had found a creature of half Viking, half Nightfury and shot it down. We thought they had killed you." Hiccup explained. Bekah scoffed. "Those stupid pirates only got my tail, they were terrible at searching and I mannaged to craft this and get away." She looked back at the fog that now stretched as far as we could see. "Hiccup the fog is too thick to fly through." Astrid pointed out.
"You're right, we could fly over Dragons Edge and not know it." Hiccup added. Bekah smirked. "I have a way to fix that."
