CHAPTER 4: "I'm Ready"

On Monday at Ravenwood High, Ella was searching for something in her locker until someone shut it closed.

"Hi, pretty. How's it going with you?" It was Ray Jones.

"You again? I thought I wouldn't have to see you ever," said Ella, annoyed.

"But now, I'm here, standing in front of you," Ray smirked.

"Whatever, I don't have time for this," she rudely pushed Ray out of her way and left him puzzled.

"Um, what's her problem?" he thought.

3 periods later, Ella met her friends in the hallway, Kate and Christopher.

"What's up, El? So, I've been thinking about this: do zombies eat brains because they're hungry for knowledge? Huh?" asked Christopher.

   "Okay, what?" replied Ella, confused.

"Oh, Chris, can you skip that? Your questions sound annoying sometimes," said Kate, rolling her eyes.

"And how is that annoying, Kate?" asked Christopher.

"Whatever! Ella, haven't you heard about the latest fashion trend? OMG, I have to brag," said Kate as she pressed her phone.

"One, no. Two, I do none of those, and three, don't you have better things to do besides fashion?" asked Ella.

"Ouch! That's rude; that hurt my feelings, you know. Humph!" replied Kate as she turned away.

"Well, deal with it," Christopher laughs and turns to Ella. "So, do you think you could hang with us for a while? At the park after school?"

   "Sure Chris. I'd love to."

"But don't you have something else to do, like, ugh? I'll regret saying this, work?" Kate air quoted. "It's like you don't usually hang with us. Even, when was the last time you did?''

"Ok, I don't know about that. And as for my work, I don't think I would do that anytime soon."

"Wait, what do you mean?" asked Christopher.

"I've decided to quit my job!" replied Ella.

"What?!" Christopher and Kate both asked in unison.

"For now."

  "BUT WAIT, WHAT?!"

"Yeah, there I said it. So, get that into your heads. There's no need to be surprised."

"But why? Won't your dad talk about this?" asked Kate.

"Nah, he won't. He doesn't even know about it. Trust me," replied Ella.

    "Are you sure?" asked Kate.

"Yup."

"Like, seriously, nothing else?" added Christopher.

"Exactly! Now, before we could go to the park after school, would you like to come with me to where my dad works?"

"That skyscraper with a huge X sign? Hell no. Ella, why should we come with you to that place?" asked Christopher, folding his arms.

"Alright, for the past few days, since I became stronger and more flexible all of a sudden, I've been doing some exercise and training," replied Ella.

"But how is that related to what you said earlier?" asked Kate.

"Wait, you didn't even let me finish. We are going to that place, but on the roof. I want to show guys some of my cool parkour skills," replied Ella.

"What?! No, no, no way, El. You know I'm afraid of heights," said Christopher.

"And since when have you started doing parkour?" asked Kate in a curious tone.

      "Since?" replied Ella.

"Are you serious? I think something is wrong with you. Chris, call for help before she gets worse. I think she has gone out of her senses," said Kate, overreacting.

"Kate, nothing is wrong with me. I'm perfectly fine, and this time, I'm not crazy but dead serious," added Ella.

"Ha-ha! Sure, you're not crazy, but you must be bluffing," replied Kate.

They thought maybe Ella was unserious but immediately after school, on top of the skyscraper,

"ELLA! PUT US DOWN!!"

"Argh! Since when did she get so strong? You know, Christopher, you should have called the ambulance, even the police," said Kate, but Christopher didn't mind her.

"Oh, stop it, Kate; you're acting like a drama queen," said Ella as she carried her two friends by her arms and shoulders. She smiles while they are trying to struggle free, then finally releases them as they are dropped hard.

"What the butt is wrong with you?!" asked Christopher angrily.

"Just relax, bro, and let me tell you one thing. One day you will face your fear of heights," replied Ella.

"I'm not talking about..."

"Shhhh! Like I said, relax, buddy."

"Well, since you brought us here, show us what you got, and this better be quick. I don't have all day," said Kate impatiently.

"Now guys, watch this!" shouted Ella, and she jumped off the skyscraper by doing the cartwheel.

She also performed vault-long jumps on each building, downward wall runs, webster sideflips, and finally, wall spins.

Her friends were shocked and, at the same time, amazed.
How can a person do those moves? They have never seen something like that before.

Kate brought out her binoculars as Ella was going a long distance.

"Hey! I want to see," demanded Christopher.

"Back off, Chris, and get your own!"

Ella only did this for 5 minutes, then appeared behind her besties.

"So, how was it, guys?!"

"AHH!" Kate and Christopher were almost scared to death.

"Oh my gosh. You guys should have seen the look on your faces!" said Ella, laughing.

"Ha-ha-ha! Pretty funny, El. But how come you got here without us noticing, and by the way, where did you learn those moves?" asked Christopher as he turned back at Ella.

"Pfff, that was easy. I just use my brain, and that's it."

"WOW! That is so cool," said Kate, impressed.

"Okay guys, let's say we go to the park and have some fun. Hang on!" cautioned Ella, and she grabbed her friends.

"Wait, what are you...?" Before Kate could finish asking, she and Christopher were made to jump from the skyscraper by Ella.

"Aargh! Yikes! I can't look!" shouted Christopher, covering his face in fear as they were going down. Kate froze for a moment, also in fear.

Unfortunately, they ended up landing inside a dumpster in an alley.

"Man, it hurts," said Christopher, rubbing his head.

"Ew! Ew! Ew! No, I cannot imagine myself in this filth, argh!" added Kate, covered in trash.

"Wow! Sure, I did not know we would end up in a dumpster, but yeah, it still worked. Ha!" shouted Ella, and she smiled foolishly.

At that time, both Christopher and Kate sighed with frustration.

Meanwhile, at Attic Treasures, Eric was ready to retrieve the sword of the three wolves from Ella. Which, at the same time, regretted giving it to her for the release of the spirits.

He even noticed she wasn't around for work in the store. Then, he brought out his loaded short gun until he later received a letter from Ella through his door.

He opened it, and it said:

"Good day, Eric. I know you must be properly mad at me for not being at work. The reason is because I decided to quit, but for a short time. I also decided not to give you the sword, and I had a reason not to.

Sorry, I have to do this, but since the day you decided to use me to release those spirit wolves, I have been angry. But I understood why, and I forgave you. I didn't have much of a choice but not to come to the store again.

And Eric, I still remember when you said you wanted to use the sword for good, but somehow, the spirits in me said I must not give it to you. Because you must have already been consumed by the power of the sword, and the Demon Wolf must have gotten into your head too. Once more, I'm very sorry.

But please try to understand. It wasn't me that didn't want you to have the power; it's the spirit wolves, and I kind of support them. Don't worry; once I stop the Demon Wolf from his evil deeds, I'll make sure you get the power of the spirits you truly deserve. I hope we'll meet again, friend.

Yours truly,
El. Johnson."

"What? She called me a friend. Does she think I'll just accept her apology like that? Although I've never had a friend before. But that doesn't prove anything.
She is just a foolish girl, thinking that she could defeat the almighty dark lord. Or what if she's right? Should I believe that the Demon Wolf is trying to use me? Like double-crossing me?" Eric asked himself, and that's when the Demon Wolf appeared from nowhere.

"Eric, do not let that mortal deceive you. She's trying to trick you so that you won't get the power you deserve—the power you always wanted. Isn't it?" warned the Demon Wolf.

"But my dark lord-"

"No buts, Eric! Remember, I promised you great powers, isn't it? It will be so much better than the three spirit wolves'. If you fall into the hands of that girl, then you will be hopeless and impuissant. Am I not right?"

Eric thought hard for some time and still decided to be with Demon Wolf.

"Of course, you are right, my evilness. Once I get my hands on Ella, oh, she's going to be sorry! I'm with you, my dark lord, no matter what."

"Yes! That's the spirit. Now continue with your mission to bring that sword to me," ordered the Demon Wolf.

At night, Ella was on top of a building and in her costume. She was ready to be an actual superhero.

She was keeping alert for the Demon Wolf, and the sword was not with her.

"Help!" a feminine voice cried. "Someone stop that thief!"

It was an old lady, and she was in trouble.

Immediately after Ella heard that cry for help, she saw the thief getting away with the old lady's purse. She went after him, but suddenly, something strange happened to her.

She could feel her fingers almost tangled, her ears growing pointier, sharp claws appearing, and her eyes changing to wolf's. She growled as her teeth turned to fangs. She was now in her half-wolf form.

Ella continues to go after the thief. Afterwards, she finally caught him and seized the purse that he stole. The thief had his face covered with a black mask.

"Ok, bud, let's see who the criminal is." When Ella removed the mask, she was beyond shocked. It was Eric!

    "Wait a minute, Eric?"

"Hello Ella Johnson. Surprised to see me? And what's with the costume?"

She dropped Eric to the ground, hard. She also wondered how he knew it was her, upon hiding her identity but of course, she must have mentioned his name with a familiar voice to him.

"Ow! You know El, you could drop me gently next time," said Eric as he got up.

"I don't understand. Since when have you decided to steal?" asked Ella.

"Since the day you decided not to bring the sword of the three spirit wolves to me, I gave you a simple task to do, and you failed it! Because of you, I regretted giving you the object. Do you know it could cost me a fortune?"

"Hey, I know you're angry and disappointed, but look, you just have to calm down. Everything will be alright," replied Ella.

"No, that's where you're wrong. Luckily for me, you just fell for my trap." Eric lost himself as he put his hand inside his pocket and brought out his short gun. "You give me what I desire, and nobody gets hurt."

"Don't do this, Eric! I know the Demon Wolf has gotten into you. He's an extremely nasty creature who wants to take over our entire planet.
I can't give you the sword because if I do, he will take it and use it to get the spirit wolves for himself. Can't you see? He is using you! I'm sorry, but I am doing this for your own good!"

"Oh, Ella, Ella, what a naive. I'm a bad guy now, and I will continue to serve the Demon Wolf as long as I have to. Sorry isn't going to fix the damage you caused! Well, no problem. We could do this the easy way." Eric points his gun at Ella and says, "Or the hard way."

A shot rang out, and the bullet hit Ella's leg.

"Aaargh!" she winced as blood began to ooze out. She was getting weak because the bullet was silver, which werewolves like her are allergic to because it kills.

As Eric wanted to make another shot, Ella quickly jumped and climbed up on one building until she reached the top.

"You can run, but you can't hide, Howling Wolf!"

"Howling Wolf?" she thought. Her leg, which was bleeding before, had healed. "Huh?"

What she did not know was that she had the ability to heal quickly. Even to take people's pain.

"Yes, and that's what I'm going to call you now. Howling Wolf!" hollered Eric while climbing on a ladder of the building. Then he got to the top, where Ella was, and continued his search for her.

He said, "I'll say it again and again, I only serve the dark spirit, the almighty dark lord, the Demon Wolf, and there's nothing you can do about it!!"

A howl was heard, and out of the shadows, Ella came out and started growling, still in her half wolf form.

In a hollow voice mixed with hers, she said, "The Demon Wolf will not get his hands on the sword, the sword of the three wolves created by our masters. We have already been freed. All creatures of evil shall be destroyed!"

She stumbled forward, swinging blindly at Eric, then flew toward him, arms outstretched, and was ready to claw out his throat.

"N-no, wait!" shouted Eric as he gaped for air. At that moment, Ella wasn't herself; it was the spirit wolves that were controlling her.

"Ella, listen to me! You were right about Demon Wolf. He has gone into my head!! I have now realized I've been tricked," he lied.

When Ella was herself again, she finally released him and asked, "Wait, I was?"

Suddenly, Eric punched her under the jaw, and she stepped back, reeling from the hit. She swung at him, shrugged her shoulder up, and took the punch on it.

He hit her again four times—three lefts and a right in the face. She stumbled back, blood running from her nose.

"Do you think I was really begging for mercy? Hm, I don't think so." Eric grabbed Ella and threw her down near a puddle of trash.

But Ella has never given up yet. She stood up on her feet, went to the top again, and bashed the guy 3 times. She also twisted his arm until it cracked like a shell.

Therefore, she stood back and growled louder and louder before something painful happened to her. She started screaming while holding her head, and then her bones began to snap and crack.

After some seconds, she shifted into her wolf form completely without her supersuit torn. It was as if it were part of her now. More so, the super-suit was different as it was adjusted to the size of the wolf and was also sleeveless.

    "ARH-WOOOOOO!!!"

"What? Impossible!" shouted Eric as he was shocked by what he saw.

Ella ran towards him and used her claw to give him some marks. Blood dripped warmly down his cheeks; his left eye wouldn't focus.

"Argh!" cried Eric while holding his left eye. "Well, Howling Wolf, you have won this time, but it's only the beginning! I'll be back. And I'll get that sword by absolute force."

After he left, victory was Ella's, but it was not yet over. The Demon Wolf was still on the loose, but soon, she'll always be there to protect her world from him.

Although at the end, Ella remembered that she had to give the purse to its rightful owner, and the only way she could do that was by sniffing the person's scent.

Later, when she got to the old lady's location, she placed the purse near the window and knocked on the glass.

Immediately after Ella left, the old lady came and saw her purse. She was very glad to see it again, and she wondered who could have returned it.

After opening her purse, a small note was discovered, and it says, "I believe this belongs to you, ma'am." And it also had a smiley face.

The old lady smiled, saying, "Thank you, whoever you are."
