CHAPTER 10: "Maybe I'm Not Ready To Be A Superheroine"
12 hours later, at Ella's house, Mr. Joe has been walking for minutes, worried about Ella. He noticed she hadn't been at Kate's since the previous day. Victoria was also there, consoling him.
"Why is your sister not answering any of my calls?"
"I don't know Daddy; the same thing I'm worrying about," replied Victoria, without looking at her dad while texting her phone.
"Vicki concentrate! Ella is out there alone with this unexplainable storm, and the best thing you could do is look at your phone. Unbelievable!"
"Daddy, relax. I was just asking my friends or anyone else who might know her whereabouts. There should be a simple explanation for why she isn't back by now. I mean, it's not that I don't care. She's my sister, and I'm worried about her safety too."
Mr. Joe then sighs and says, "Sorry, sweetheart. I know you too well for your undying love for her." He embraces Victoria and continues, "And that makes you a great sister, and she is lucky to have you as such."
"Aww, thanks, Daddy. It's my duty as a big sister to protect and look out for her."
"Ok, you know what? I am going to involve the police in this case, and I guarantee that we will see her again."
He was about to get the telephone on the table when a loud knock was heard. Mr. Joe tells Victoria to find out who was at their door. She opens it only to see Ella and Eric.
"Oh, Daddy, look! Ella's home! With her boss."
"Did I just hear you say with her boss?" asked Mr. Joe in the background as he came to the door. "Mr. Eric, thank you so much for bringing my daughter home safely. Where have you been, young lady?"
"She was helping me with something at my store. I asked her to come because it was very urgent," lied Eric.
"Don't ever scare me like that again, Ella, dear. I'm just glad you're okay. I and your sister have been worried sick. Did you watch the news? Some spirits, if I'm correct, were taking over people's bodies, turning them into monsters and stuff like that."
"Yeah, dad, I know. That sounds pretty terrifying when you put it that way."
"And that is why, Mr. Johnson, I have to get you all to a secure bunker at my store."
"Wait, boss, we have a bunker?" asked Ella.
"I thought maybe one day it would be needed in extreme events like this one."
"Thank you once again for your help, Eric. We owe you. As soon as we pack our bags, you'll lead us there," said Mr. Joe.
"Yes, you and your daughters will be safe there for a while. There's food and water in case, and everything you need to make yourselves comfortable."
"Ok, dad, I'll go upstairs to my room to freshen myself."
"Sure, sure, sweetie. You go and pack up your things too."
Upstairs in her room:
"I don't know if I can still stand against the Demon Wolf with my sword when its powers are lost. It's now just a plain old sword, but... hey, it could still be useful in battle," she thought.
What Ella told her herself was going to work, but not as efficiently and effectively as the powerful howl to defeat Demon Wolf. Ray went to check on his family to see if they were alright and not affected by the spirits. After that, he also volunteered himself to help the unaffected people evacuate from the city's danger zones.
Ella took a deep breath, rolled up her window, and snook out without Mr. Joe or Victoria knowing. But before that, she asked Eric to look after her family while she'd go to stop Demon Wolf and his spirit army. She additionally told him to tell them she went to check on her friends as an excuse if they inquired.
She changed into her super suit, went further into the city, then climbed up on a skyscraper, called Demon Wolf, and waited for him to show up. As expected, he arrived with some of his army of evil spirits.
The spirits were circling around Howling Wolf, laughing out loud and evilly. She did not like the sound of it, but she wasn't afraid.
"I was sure I'd meet you here," said Howling Wolf.
"Hm, the wolfsbane ought to have killed you."
"Yeah, it ought to have, but it didn't."
"You are weak and just scared; what about you giving up and running away? Muahahaha!" replied Demon Wolf, and others joined him in laughing.
"I'm not a coward! This ends now!! Face me, Demon Wolf!"
"Very well. Spirits attack!"
Their clash fractured the skyline. Windows shattered, and debris danced. Howling Wolf swings her sword at them one by one. But as they were getting too much, she turned as she spun her sword. She then did a high jump and hit the ground with great impact, which caused the spirits to dissolve, their malevolence fading like mist.
She sank to her knees, her breath ragged.
"Give up already?" asked Demon Wolf as more of his army kept coming.
"Never!"
Howling Wolf shifted into her wolf form, and she half turned and half stepped back, a fluid quarter circle, shoulders and all, and like she knew they would, the evil spirits moved toward her, faster than she was moving, off-script and involuntary, ready to grab them. Howling Wolf kept it going long enough to let their momentum establish, and then she whipped back through the reverse quarter circle toward them, by which time she was moving just as fast as they were—two hundred and fifty pounds about to collide head-on with four hundred—and she kept twisting and threw a long-left hook at the left-hand spirit guy.
But that wasn't over.
More kept coming as Howling Wolf was panting lustily. She turned and saw one of them slam a fist into her jaw, and she tasted a surge of coppery blood. With the help of her Alpha roar, it was so powerful that sonic waves sent the evil spirits away for good.
The Demon Wolf started to be annoyed as he noticed that she still had her wolf powers blessed by the three spirit wolves even when all the powers of the sword were seized by him, and before he could charge her again, that's when Eric came from the rooftop access hatch.
"Eric? Eric, what do you think you're doing here?! You have to get out; it isn't safe!" warned Howling Wolf, shocked to see him after she shifted back to her human form.
"I am here to make things right. Trust me," replied Eric as he grabbed her sword and raised it to the skies.
"You foolish mortal again? If you are thinking of using that on me, you're out of luck," said the Demon Wolf.
"You may be right, but you haven't seen the true power of it. Shab-bat-Bera-khot, Shab-bat-Bera-khot, Shab-bat-Bera-khot!"
Demon Wolf began to feel his powers lessen, and he questioned, saying, "Wait, you have to be kidding me. What do you think you are doing? What is this?!"
"Your defeat," replied Eric. "Shab-bat-Bera-khot, Shab-bat-Bera-khot, Shab-bat-Bera-khot!"
"Wow, it's working, Eric! Drain him dry!" shouted Howling Wolf.
The incantations were to bring back the powers of the sword from the Demon Wolf, exactly the same thing the three wise men did to contain their powers in the weapon. Before Eric could say the incantations for the third time, the Demon Wolf suddenly managed to shoot a lightning bolt at him, and he was down!
"Eric!"
"ENOUGH!! I grow tired of this. It's time I destroy you, so you won't stand in my way, Howling Wolf!"
Immediately after Demon Wolf said that, the sky turned more bloody red as hell, and thunder and lightning became worse as those that were possessed by the evil spirits surrounded Howling Wolf completely.
"You have no place to run!"
"Oh geez, Ella, what am I going to do now?" she thought.
"Any last words?"
The monsters were preparing for attack, and she couldn't even handle them due to their overwhelming numbers. So, she decided to flee and devise a better strategy, leaving Eric behind.
"Don't let her escape! I knew she would give up. This world is mine!" yelled Demon Wolf.
His army was right on Howling Wolf's tail as she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Alas, she totally lost them but felt like a sore loser, a coward that ran away from a mighty battle.
Meanwhile, Demon Wolf had plans for Eric.
"Well, well, what should I do with you? I know, if it's power you want, then it's power you shall have! I shall take over you, and may you never see the light again!"
When Demon Wolf went into his body, Eric woke up and screamed out of agony.
He began to transform as horns were popping out on his forehead, his ears began to be long and pointy, and his voice changed to Demon Wolf's, but in a very deep, hollow way, mixed with Eric's as he breathed out fire. His teeth became razor sharp and came along with fangs; his eyes turned red; and lastly, his body turned black (but in a solid rock structure).
Then, his transformation was complete.
"Now to find Howling Wolf and take her full powers," he said.

Ella's POV
The city has been invaded by Demon Wolf and his minions. Since then, things haven't been the same as they were before. A lot of citizens were attacked and possessed by evil spirits, which turned them into hideous monsters. Few properties were destroyed; law enforcement came but lost and were outnumbered.
I'm just hiding in an abandoned building, feeling scared and weak for hours. I can't believe I failed! The three spirit wolves trusted me as the chosen one to stop the enemy once and for all, but it didn't go as planned. Now, I think maybe I'm not ready to be a superheroine.
The only thing I did was let everyone down, and the world is doomed to be in anarchy.
***
Unexpectedly, the three spirit wolves appeared before Ella. First, she was shocked, but the spirits told her not to be afraid, as they were there for help.
"Ella Johnson, there is no need to bring yourself down. The reason why we spirits chose you in the first place was to test all your abilities—your strength, your knowledge," said the first wolf spirit, the Alpha.
"And your loyalty. We wanted to see if you were worthy of the sword our masters created and to share our powers. We would not want it to go to the wrong hands," said the second wolf spirit, the Beta.
"But look at me now; I failed. I wasn't ready for this. I didn't deserve to be the chosen one. Maybe I wasn't the right person for the job. After all, it's my fault; if I hadn't unleashed you guys, none of these would have happened," replied Ella.
"Yes, but we are lucky to be free if it wasn't for you. It is the Demon Wolf that has to be getting rid of," said the third wolf spirit, the Omega.
"Ella, losing to Demon Wolf doesn't mean you have to give up easily. You can still do it; we believe in you, the world believes in you, and you're their only hope to save them all," said the second wolf spirit.
"And there's no need to worry about possessing those powers of the sword to do so. The real powers are in you, including the powerful howl," added the first wolf spirit.
"Wait, I don't understand. I thought you said the powerful howl was in the sword I should possess," said Ella.
"You will soon understand as long as you're Howling Wolf, defender of all spirits and this world," replied the third wolf spirit.
"Lastly, do not forget to call in your inner wolf. It's the only way to stop that evil," said the second wolf spirit.
"And when you do, as you can see, there are three of us. Once you have done that, then we shall merge to become one, and you will experience becoming a real wolf," added the first wolf spirit.
"Alright, I'll do it! For my family, my friends, and for the world," uttered Ella.
"Good, and remember, do not ever give up," said the third wolf spirit.
"Yes, I'll do my best. Thank you for everything."
And the spirit wolves disappeared after.
"This time, Demon Wolf is going to pay for what he has done!" she thought.
A minute later, Ella took deep breaths and started meditating. She could feel her wolf begging to be free, and then, all of a sudden, in her mind, a voice called her name.
"Who am I speaking to?" she barked at the invader in her mind.
"I am your inner wolf. I am here to help guide you on your journey as a werewolf. I have always been inside of you, helping you deal with the many obstacles life has thrown your way."
"Do you have a name?"
"I am you. As much as you are me. We are one and the same. Now let's go hunt down Demon Wolf and his entire army."
"Well, you don't have to tell me twice," she said.
Now, Howling Wolf was ready to save the world.
