CHAPTER 1: The Three Spirit Wolves
"Hey! Hurry up, or we'll be late to school!" shouted a girl in the background.
"Okay, sis, just a minute!"
Ella Johnson was getting ready as she put on her white T-shirt, blue jeans, shoes, and some accessories. She, her father, Mr. Joe Johnson, and her big sister Victoria live in Amsterdam, known as the "Venice of the North."
"Are you done yet?" asked Victoria as she leaned on Ella's door, "Argh! You're really going to wear that?"
"What sis? It's kind of my style," replied Ella, smiling.
"Alright, and come on, you know I don't want to miss any classes today." Victoria drags her sister downstairs and almost makes their way out of their apartment until they are stopped by their father.
"Woah girls! How many times have I told you about running in the house?" Mr. Joe smiled.
"Sorry, daddy, but someone here had to make us almost late to school," said Victoria as she was getting impatient.
"That's not true!" said Ella as she was trying to remove her hand from Victoria's grip.
Mr. Joe chuckled and continued, "Okay, sweeties, but please be careful next time, and by the way," he brings out their launch boxes and says, "You forgot these."
"Aww, thanks, dad!" Ella and Victoria both gave their father a kiss on the cheeks and left.
Ella couldn't have done so many things in her life without her big sister. They always look out for each other and do things together. Mr. Joe is always busy at work and comes home very late.
Although, most times, Mr. Joe usually acts crazy, like what happened a few months earlier when he put his hands on his sofa and twerked his buttocks to his wife, she came into the house immediately. Then, with surprise, she closed the door and went outside, laughing. It was so embarrassing and weird that Mr. Joe had no idea his wife was watching him.
Sadly, Mr. Joe's wife died due to blood cancer, and she was a kind-hearted woman, especially to her children. Anyone who knew Mrs. Johnson never forgot her because of her positive attitude.
Ravenwood High is a high school where the two Johnson sisters attend.
Kate and Christopher were Ella's besties. They knew each other very well, ever since they were little.
"What's up guys?" greeted Christopher, smiling after seeing Ella and Kate in the hallway.
"Hi Chris, what is going on?" asked Kate.
"Yeah, bro, you look so hyped. Come on, spill the beans!" demanded Ella.
"Okay, have you heard? The new season of Lucifer just landed on Netflix!" replied Christopher.
"OMG! I'm shook!! I need to watch it ASAP!" said Kate.
"Well, as for me, I have to go to work after school, and I may have a lot of homework," continued Ella.
"Some other time?" added Christopher.
"You just read my mind, bro."
They all laughed and gave themselves high-fives.
"Ok, El, but before you do that stuff, let's have some pizza after school. Sounds good?" asked Kate.
"Yeah, I guess," replied Ella, and she left for class.
During the first period,
"Okay, class, please settle down! Today we have a new student who is going to be joining us. You may come in, Mr. Jones," said the teacher, Mr. Jefferson.
The newbie came into the classroom. He was so handsome that he was 5 feet tall, had a fair complexion, and his smile was gorgeous. Almost all the girls in the class were falling for him, admiring his looks.
"Oh my, who's that guy?" asked a male student, jokingly.
"I don't know, but sure, he's very handsome," replied a female student, blushing.
"Wow, I wish one day he could notice me," said another female student.
"Okay, now he's going to introduce himself to the whole class. So, Mr. Jones, what's your name?" asked Mr. Jefferson.
"Hi, I'm Ray Jones, and I'm from Texas. Nice to meet y'all."
"Alright, Mr. Jones, please take a seat," said Mr. Jefferson.
During lunch time, Ray kept looking at Ella and saw how beautiful she was. When he started his first day at his new school, he wanted to make some new friends, and luckily, he had a chance to be friends with Ella.
"Hi there!" greeted Ray, but Ella didn't respond. "I'm Ray Jones; what's yours?"
Yet she still ignored the boy and pretended she didn't notice him as she was eating her lunch.
"Hey, I'm just being friendly," said Ray.
Then Ella finally replied, "Hello."
"Okay, now you can talk. So, like I said before, my name is Ray, and you know the rest," he laughs.
"Rest of what?" asked Ella, almost annoyed.
"Well, forget it. It's not really a big deal, right? So I guess you're around here?"
Ray was getting nervous.
"Yeah, right. Well, it's nice to meet you, Ray, but I have other things to do," she left rudely.
"Umm, that girl is something else," Ray thought and smiled.
Later that day, after school, Ella went to a junk store called Attic Treasures. A place where she works.
"Hi Eric!"
"Well, hello, El; you just arrived on time," said Eric, Ella's boss.
"Yup! School always closes early on Fridays."
"So that explains so much. Now that you are here, what about helping me with this chest?" asked Eric, pointing at the basement.
They both carried the heavy chest from the basement and placed it on the floor.
"Wow, Eric, what's inside this box that is so heavy?"
"Well, see it for yourself."
After opening the chest, inside there were gold and silver coins, shiny diamonds, and jewelry. These things amazed Ella, and then something caught her attention. A very magnificent sword that was colored red, black, and yellow, with the blade shiny silver.
"Where did you get all these?" asked Ella, curiously.
"Let's say I collect valuable things that were made in the past," replied Eric, smiling and bringing out the same sword that caught Ella's eye. "This sword was made by the three wise men about 200 centuries ago. Have you heard anything about them?"
"No, not at all, Eric. Who were they?"
"They were protectors of the spirit world. Each had their own spirit animal, which was a wolf. One day, a dark spirit came from nowhere and wanted the three spirit wolves for himself. They called it the Demon Wolf," Eric continued.
"Yikes! That sounds terrifying, and what happened next? How are you knowing this?" asked Ella.
"I'm glad you want to hear more. So the Demon Wolf once had the name Acacius. He was part of the three wise men before, but when he thought of absorbing the spirit animals in order to make him more powerful and unstoppable to take over the world, the wise men didn't like it, and when he took it too far, they threw him out of their group, never to return again."
"What about the sword? What does it have to do with the three wise men?"
"Yes, that's the question I've been expecting. The three wise men wanted to keep their spirit animals safe so that the Demon Wolf wouldn't get his hands on them. So, they put the spirits inside the sword and threw it in a lake as far away as possible. It was very difficult for the Demon Wolf to find the wise men's spirit animals, and when he couldn't, he vanished. That's why the three wise men warned that when the spirit wolves are unleashed from this sword, that's when the Demon Wolf will come back to find them," replied Eric.
"Okay, but it's just a myth, right?" asked Ella.
"You could say that but not really because, I believe the legends are true."
"And what have you planned to do with the sword? Sell it or take it to a museum?"
"Exactly, I want to free the spirit wolves if possible."
"Free the spirits?! But really, if it's possible—wait a sec, did you just say the wise men warned—" she was cut off by Eric.
"I know, I know, but think of using them for good things. As a benefit for all of us in this world, or maybe..." he then thought, "I could use them to get everything I always wanted in my life."
"But Eric..."
"Look, you know what? I have a new assignment for you. You're going home with this sword, and you are going to think of how to release those spirits. Fail to do that, and you're fired!" ordered Eric. He threw Ella out of his shop along with the sword and slammed the door behind her.
"Why does my boss want me to release these spirit wolves so badly? Oh well, I better do so or I'll lose my job. Maybe if they are free from the sword, the Demon Wolf won't appear. I mean, what if the story was really just a myth?" Ella thought so, but she was wrong.
