Howl: Shifting Shadows

"What do you mean this is your fault?" Miah asked Storm.

Storm was looking at the ghost cats. "I believe these are The Guardians of Kiritha," Storm meowed.

"Who in all of Catsburgh are The Guardians of Kiritha?!" Miah yowled at Storm.

"They are the guardians of the spiritual world- cat gods, if you will," Storm answered, his ears flattened with horror as he looked up at the ghost cats. "I fear I have upset them by leaving Kiritha,"

Miah rolled her eyes at Storm and lashed her silver tabby tail. "Well, then why'd you leave Kiritha, you stupid idiot?!" Miah hissed at him.

"I- I did it for you," Storm meowed at Miah.

Miah looked at Storm and blinked rapidly. "Oh, you big mouse, you did it for me? How sweet!" Then she meowed angrily, "For an idiot, anyway."

Storm looked at Miah, sadness welled in his golden eyes. "Forgive me, Miah! I didn't know it would turn out like this! I didn't even know it would happen!"

Miah arched her back, bristling with ears back, and hissed at Storm. "You did this to us! You! Why? Why couldn't you have stayed dead?"

Storm looked at Miah. His ears were back, and his eyes were teary, obvious signs of mental pain. He was trembling, not in fear, but in anger.

With a jolt, Miah realized what she had just meowed. "I'm so sorry Storm!" She meowed. "Really, I am! I didn't realize what I meowed!"

Storm circled Miah. His back was arched, back bristling, ears flattened, and teeth bared. "If you want to know why I did that, Miah," He spat. "I did it because I cared for you and thought as if I needed to come back. But I guess you don't understand loyalty, do you Miah? Well, I'm not surprised because you never had any yourself!" Storm padded off.

"Storm!" Miah meowed. No response. "Storm!" She meowed again.

"Um, Miah," Maple meowed. "Don't worry about Storm, for we have an even worse problem at the moment!" Maple gingerly pointed at the god- ghost cats floating above them.

"You're right, Maple." Miah whispered.

Miah then stared at the ghosts thoughtfully for a bit.

Then she turned to Maple and meowed, "Maple, do you think you can keep the ghosts busy long enough for me to talk to Storm?" Miah asked.

Maple thought for a moment. "Uh, I'll see what I can do," She meowed eventually.

"Good," Miah meowed as she trotted off to find Storm. "You do that."

Miah looked around the first floor of Okazii Manor, and Storm was nowhere to be seen.

Once Miah went up to the second floor, the first room she went in was the fifth library. She opened the door and, sure enough, Storm was curled up in the darkest corner to the left. Once he saw her, his large, golden eyes turned to slits.

"What do you want?" He hissed.

Miah padded up to him. Her silver tabby tail flicked from side to side. "We need to talk," She meowed calmly.

She then laid down next to Storm.

Storm recoiled with disgust and hatred when she put her silver paw on top of his blue- gray paw. "So? Get it over with, already!" Storm meowed.

Miah sighed, hoping it would work. "I am so sorry, Storm." Miah started. "So sorry I couldn't even tell you how sorry I am."

Storm blinked at her.

"I didn't know what I meowed, I really didn't. I was just kinda livid at you at that moment. I didn't mean anything I meowed, I promise. In fact I am very glad you came back for me," Miah then licked Storm's right ear and then rubbed her head against him, purring.

After a moment, Storm did the same.

"I forgive you my Miah," Storm whispered.

After a while more, Miah got up. "Come on, Storm! Maple needs help fighting the ghost cats!"

Storm got up and lashed his tail. "I forgot!" He meowed. "Let's help her!"

But then he looked at the ground. "But would that be a good idea?" He meowed. "Seeing that the last time I fought, I died?"

Miah gave him a friendly nudge. "Come on!" She meowed. "You can do anything!"

Storm looked at Miah. "Uh, okay, if you say so!"

Once they got down, Miah saw that Maple was trying very hard to do as Miah had asked.
Once Maple saw Miah and Storm, her eyes lit up as she purred, "Miah! Storm! I'm so glad you're here!"

Then she looked at the ghost cats worriedly. "The problem is, I don't think we can fight them," Miah tilted her head. "And why is that, Maple?" She asked.

"Well," Maple scraped her paw against the marble flooring.

"They really seem to want to get Storm back, and they are much stronger than us."

Miah looked at the ghost cats. "Oh." She meowed. "That's bad."

The ghost cats' attention was now focused on Storm. "Come," They meowed. "Come with us." Miah looked at Storm. "Don't worry, Storm. We won't let them take you!" Miah told him.

Storm looked at Miah. "I appreciate that you are this eager to keep me in the living world with you, but I'm afraid I need to go with them."

Miah's heart pounded in her chest. Storm couldn't be serious! "No! Don't go Storm!" She pleaded.

The ghost cats had heard this and were opening a portal for Storm.

Storm padded to Miah. "I don't want to do this," He started.

"Then don't!" Miah hissed at him.

"But I believe I must," Storm meowed. Then he looked at Miah.

Tears were in both of their eyes.

"The truth is," Storm started. "I love you, Miah. I really do,"

Miah looked at Storm with affection and sadness. "I love you too, my little Stormy." She meowed.

And then... They kissed.

Storm then padded away from Miah.

Once he was inches away from the portal he called, "Goodbye, Miah! I'll never forget you! I love you!"

Then Miah called back. "I won't forget you either, and love you too!"

Storm looked at the portal and then he looked at Miah and Maple one more time before jumping in. Storm was gone in an instant.

"I'll think about you every day!" Miah called out to Storm.

"Me too!" Maple called.

The two cats then looked at each other.

Then eventually, Miah meowed, "Let's dedicate this night to Storm." She meowed.

Maple nodded. "Agreed,"
