chapter two!
halloween is cool!
THE CUPCAKES WERE FINALLY out of the oven as Bailey and Aisha placed frosting on the top of each cupcake. Demetri had made bowls of popcorn while Eli and Miguel took out some drinks. Once the cupcakes cooled off, Bailey placed a few for each person on each plate. "Now that we have our snacks, let's start movie night!"
Demetri and Eli sat on the floor while Aisha, Bailey, and Miguel sat on the couch. As the movie started to play, Aisha turned to the girl sitting next to her. "So what are you gonna be for Halloween?"
"I'm gonna go as Mia Thermopolis from the Princess Diaries but when she wears a white dress with black headphones and shades. What about you?" Aisha sheepishly smiled, "I'm gonna go as table salt."
"If I had known, I would've been chloride. But that doesn't mean we can't have fun. Aisha Robinson, will you go to the Halloween dance with me?" This brought a smile to the girl's face as she let out a laugh. "Yes, I will."
The movie eventually came to an end as Demetri, Eli, and Aisha said their goodbyes, heading home. Miguel was in the kitchen, helping Bailey pack up. "You really didn't have to stay and help me. I would've been fine." The boy gave her a small smile as he placed a container in the fridge. "It's the least I could do since you baked us cupcakes. They were really good."
"Thank you, Miguel. I can pack you some to take home if you'd like."
"I think I'd like that." Bailey placed a few cupcakes in a container, placing it in a plastic bag and tying it. "Here you go. Is anyone picking you up or...". Miguel took the bag, looking at her. "Thank you. My mom's waiting for me outside, actually. So... I'll see you tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow, Miguel." As Bailey opened the door for him, he quickly turned around. "Oh, good night, Bailey!" The brunette smiled at him, waving her hand, "Good night, Miguel! Get home safely!"
"I will!"
The next day came around quickly as Bailey was in the cafeteria, doing a missing assignment. Their guidance counselor was talking about cyber bullying and wasn't very discreet about who was being affected by it. Eli covered his scar as he wore a sad look on his face. Bailey placed a hand on his shoulder, "Eli, your scar doesn't define who you are. Who cares if people think you're weird? So what? You're an amazing person and I'm glad that I'm friends with you, okay?"
The younger boy nodded his head, "Thanks, B. I really needed that."
"Any time, Eli." Miguel looked at the trio as he stopped eating his lunch, "You know, if you're sick of getting bullied, my karate dojo's looking for recruits."
"Yeah, right, you hear that, guys? A little karate training and you're gonna kick some major ass." Demetri stated in a sarcastic tone, causing Bailey to kick his foot. "I'm serious, Demetri, all right? My sensei's the real deal, and I'm sure I could get you both discounts."
Bailey smiled, putting her pen down. "I'll ask my parents if I can. Plus, it'd be nice to learn how to kick some assholes in the face."
"As enticing as that sounds, I think we'd rather spend our afternoons playing Crucible Control than getting hit in the face." The woman continued to speak, this time about the Halloween dance. Like anyone was going to follow the dress code? The bell rang, much to Bailey's satisfaction. "Thank God, I didn't think she'd ever stop talking. But I'll see you guys at the Halloween dance!"
BAILEY DANCED WITH AISHA, TRYING TO BRING her spirits up. She knew about the bullying and she hated that people made fun of the girl simply for being plus sized. It was disgusting and it wasn't something she stood for. "So is there anyone you want to dance with yet?" Aisha asked as she spun Bailey around. "No. But I'm having a lot of fun dancing with you."
Aisha laughed as Bailey twirled her around. "Hey, I'll be right back. I'm gonna go talk to Sam."
"Sounds good. I'm gonna go talk to Eli and Demetri." The brunette walked over to the two boys, wearing a smile. "Hey guys. I'm loving the costumes. Let me guess, you're a sorcerer?"
"I'm not a sorcerer! I'm a necromancer!"
"Relax, Dem. I didn't know. And you're a doctor?" Eli nodded his head, "I'm a plastic surgeon. I fix lips." Miguel entered the party, walking up to the trio. "Oh, skeleton. Classic. Nice." Demetri stated. "Thanks. I like your sorcerer costume."
"You too? I'm a necromancer."
"What?"
"Didn't you see 'the Amulet'?" Miguel looked at Bailey, "Your Princess Mia costume looks great."
"Thanks. Your skeleton costume looks really cool. I'm gonna go find Aisha so I'll see you guys in a bit." The music eventually changed as the three boys were just standing by the snacks table. "Let's ask the Dragon Queens to dance."
"Slow your roll, we got time." Demetri stated. "No, no... Shit. We just lost one to Doctor Who." Miguel noticed Bailey talking to Aisha as he walked over to them. "Dude, what are you doing? Two of the dragon queens are still available to dance with!"
"Hey, Aisha, Bailey. Would you girls want to dance with me?"
"I'm gonna get something to drink right now." Aisha winked at the girl as she walked over to the punch table. "Sure, Miguel. I'll dance with you." The two walked onto the dance floor as Bailey wrapped her arms around his neck. The boy stared at her, wondering if he should wrap his arms around her waist. "Miguel, relax. I don't bite, I promise." As he held her waist, the two danced for a bit. "So are you having a good time?"
"Yeah. I mean, I got to spend time with you guys. What about you?"
"I'm having fun. I was so nervous to ask these dragon queens to dance with me."
"That's so cute." Miguel furrowed his eyebrows, "Cute? It's embarrassing." Bailey laughed as he spun her around. "It's normal, Miguel. I personally like shy guys, actually."
"Really? I thought you'd like jocks or something."
"Well, once you get to know me better, you'll know that I don't. I hate guys like Kyler who think they're the shit when they actually aren't. Someone needs to kick his ass one day." Just as Miguel was about to speak, Eli and Demetri had to use the bathroom, causing the boy to sigh. "I'll be right back, Bailey."
Time had passed as Eli and Demetri came back, panting. "Eli, Dem, what happened? Where's Miguel?"
"Kyler and his friends are gonna beat him up."
"And you two thought it was a good idea to just leave him? I'm gonna go check on him." Bailey walked through the empty hallway, noticing Kyler and his friends exiting the locker room. Bailey slowly opened the door, walking inside. "Miguel? Miguel? Mig-". The girl put a hand on her mouth as she kneeled down next to him. The boy was in extreme pain, having a black eye and a few other bruises. A tall blonde man entered the room, staring at the two. "What happened to him?" Bailey looked at the man, "A few assholes beat him up. Can you stay here with him? I'll be right back."
Bailey walked into the nurse's office, noticing the older woman eating some candy. "Can I help you?"
"Can I have an ice pack and some tissues? It's very urgent." The nurse handed her the supplies, allowing the girl to leave. Bailey returned to the locker room, kneeling next to Miguel. "Here." The boy took the ice pack, placing it over his eye. "Thanks."
"I can take it from here. But thank you for giving him the ice pack." Bailey nodded her head, "It's no problem. Also you might want to give him these tissues for his nose." As Bailey left the locker room, she felt bad for Miguel. If she'd known sooner, she might've been able to help him.
So much for a happy Halloween.
