~Chapter 4~ How We Met

As you can tell from the chapter name, it's the name of the book. The reason is, is bc it's the same as the One-shot chapter.

This is the chapter in my One-shot book. The only difference in this chapter is that it's in Nya POV and is better written!

Enjoy!

Nya POV~

I was dreading today. The day where I give my children to their abusive dad. It was only for 3 days, but that is 3 days of abuse, torture, no eating. Literally anything coming to my mind is scaring me.

I really wish they didn't have to leave, but I can't do anything else. If I don't let their father see them, I could be sent to jail and he could gain full custody over the kids. But I'm gonna make sure that never happens, and if there is a way to stop this, then I will not hesitate and do so.

And because Cole has the kids for 3 days, the weekend and Monday, he's gonna have to take Sam to school on every Monday he has with him, which I hope won't be that difficult for Cole.

I was sitting on my bed, gnawing on my fingernails, thinking of ways I could spend the day with the kids before they have to leave. I thought about going to get them ice-cream, but I wanted to do more than just sit and lick sugar.

I then thought of taking the kids to my hometown, where I grew up. We could drive and look at all the different buildings there. I could also show them the house that me and Kai grew up in and take them to my favorite café which has the best cookies ever!

I smiled to myself as I know the kids would have a great time. We never really go on road trips as Sam's anxiety would get really bad.

I got up from my bed and got dressed. Picking out a jean jacket to go along with a white T with black stripes and high waisted jeans. Not trying to impress anyone, just wanted to look nice to make myself feel somewhat better.

I walked down the hallway and peeked into the children's room. They were quietly drawing on the floor, sharing a box of crayons. I gently tap my knuckle a few times on their door, opening it a little more so they can see me. They look up from their coloring books and gave me a smile.

"Hi mum." Sam says cheerfully before he and Alex go back to coloring.

"Soo I was thinking, before you guy's go to your dads, do you wanna go on a little trip?" I ask them. Alex gasped.

"Yes!" Alex said getting hyped.

"Where?" Sam says anxiously.

"Don't worry, no where to put you in harm's way, just a little drive around and maybe a little treat." Sam's expression slowly rises to a smile.

"Okay" He says with more enthusiasm.

"Alright, well I need you guys to get dressed and clean up your mess. Do you guys think you're up for the task?" I smirk, wiggling my eyebrows. They both smirked back before bouncing up onto their feet and started cleaning.

That's how we- or I get them to do stuff, is turning things into a challenge. It gets pretty competitive, but it gets the work done!

I grabbed 2 small duffel bags from their shared closet and started packing their clothes. The children were practically running around, putting away their mess and getting their shoes on.

Once I finished, I threw the bag and a few snacks, just in case Cole isn't prepared, in the back of my car and went back up to my apartment to grab the kids. I walked in and saw the kids patiently waiting on the couch watching cartoons.

"Ready to go?" I say proudly.

"Yes!" They say while jumping off the couch and trying to run out of the door before I stopped them.

"Did you guys use the bathroom? I don't plan on making any stops until awhile." I say weary. They both nodded. "Alrighty, let's get going." They raced each other to my car, sitting in their booster/car seats, already buckled in thanks to Sam's help.

After about 40 minutes of driving, we arrived at what I used to call home. It felt very comforting being in the town I grew up in, instantly recognizing all the little details of the stores and streets.

"Mum, where are we?" Asked Sam as he and Alex were glaring out of their windows.

"This is my home town, where I grew up!" I heard coos from the back seat. "Do you guys wanna go see the house me and uncle Kai grew up in?" I look in the rear view mirror to see them look at me and nod their heads.

I made a few turns on familiar streets until we came upon the one I memorized from head to toe. Going down the road, looking left and right at all the houses I saw everyday. Some things never change. I sigh before coming to a complete stop, putting my car in park.

Me and the kids all looked to our lefts to see a small beat up wooden house. From the littlest details such as the cracks in the pavement to the rusty gutters, it looked exactly how we left it.

I smiled to myself.

"This was mommy's old house," I turned around in my seat to look at both of them. "I know you might not understand yet, but me and uncle Kai, we grew up by ourselves. We didn't have parent's to look after us, to pick us up after we fell, to help with homework," Sam frowned. "But know that I will always be here for you guys and that I love you both so very much." They both smiled. I start to tear up before wiping them away and turning back around in my seat.

"Momma? Whe'e ee goin nowe?" Alex asked.

"We are going to my favorite place in town." I smiled.

A few minutes later, I pulled up into a small parking lot with only a few cars there.

"What is this place?" Asked Sam, unbuckling his seatbelt and stepping out of the car.

"This is a café I went to a lot when I was in high school." I said, taking Alex out of her car seat.

Walking around the car, I grabbed Sam's hand while carrying Alex on my side and we walked together. As I opened the glass door, the bell above chimed. The smell of coffee and baked goods filled my nose, making me feel welcomed. Looking around to see a few people sitting at tables, chatting or working on their laptops. I can't believe that used to be me.

I dragged Sam to the counter and looked up at the menu. Nothing too special was on there since I've last been here, so I'm just gonna order something simple.

"Hello, my name is Jay, how may I help you?" I looked down to see a curly brown hair guy who was slightly taller than me with freckles planted on his cheeks. He had a warm smile, wearing the costumed work uniforms.

"I'll just have a black coffee and 2 hot chocolate's please." I looked down and smiled at the kids.

"Okay, and what's your name?" He asked, holding a coffee cup in his hand and a marker in the other.

"Nya." He smiles even more and writes down my name.

"Alright, should be done shortly, it's on the house." He states casually.

"Oh, no it's alright I can pay!" I panic, digging through my wallet to find exact change.

"No it's okay," He puts his hand up signaling me to not pay him. "This town is fairly small and I don't recall seeing you guys around, so it's on me." He smiles before turning around and making our beverages.

I smile myself before finding a table and sitting down at it. As the children were building towers out of the cream containers for coffee, I pulled out my phone and tapped on Coles contact.

Once it opened, the first thing I saw was our last conversation over text which of course was him yelling at me. I quickly ignored it and texted him our location so he could pick up the kids.

Before I knew it, the guy from the counter came over and gave us our drink. I thanked him as he walked away.

"Owie." Cried Alex.

"Be careful, it's hot! Blow on it for a little bit and then drink it." I giggle slightly as she carefully blows on her drink. I look over at Sam and see he's already mastered getting his hot chocolate cooled.

"Soo, are you guys excited to see you dad?" I take a sip of my coffee.

"Ye'ah!" Alex says excitedly. I honestly don't think she knows what could happen, I mean how could she? She's only 3!

"Not really," Sam says an octave lower with his lip pouting. "I'm scared mommy." Sam starts to cry.

"Shhhh," I slide next to him in our booth, rubbing his back as he leans on me. "You're gonna be okay, you wanna know how I know that?" He shook his head and sniffled. I reach into my purse and take out a phone. "I'm gonna give you a phone. You call me if you feel unsafe or scared, Okay?" He shook his head again, putting the phone in his hoodie pocket.

After a few minutes passed of me and the kids talking, the glass door swings open. I look over to see my worst nightmare, Cole.

He walks over to our table and looks at me.

"I want the kids now." He deepens his voice. I swallow before giving the kids a kiss before they were basically ripped away from me and out the door. Before I could even think of their bags in my car, I saw Cole's truck driving away.

I bang both my elbows on the table, tangling my fingers in my now messy hair and started to sob.

"Uh, sorry to be all up in your business, but what was all that about?" The guy from the counter, Jay was his name?, pointed behind him towards the door.

I wipe away my tears before lowering my hand towards the seat in front of me, signaling him to sit down.

When he sat down, for some reason, I felt like I could really trust him. Even though he was a complete stranger to me.

"T-that person who just came through the door, he's my ex and also the father to my children. I have to share them with him, but.." I paused, thinking of the right words to say. "H-he's done some pretty messed up things." I sniff. "And I don't think he's changed."

I started to tear up again, feeling that bump in the back of my throat becoming harder to swallow away. I then felt something graze my hand. I looked down to see his hand on top of mine. I quickly yank it out of his grasp and wipe my tears again.

"S-sorry, I don't usually act this way."

"It seems to me that you have a lot on your shoulders," He looks over at the counter seeing a line being formed, looking back at me. "I have to get back to work, but" He takes a napkin out it's suspender and a pen out of his pocket and writes something down. "Here's my number." He slides the napkin towards me. "Text or call whenever you'd like. If you want of course!" He smiles before standing up and walking back.

I watched as he walked away and helped someone order. Looking back down at the napkin, I slipped it in my pocket, grabbed my coffee, and drove home.

Sooooo I definitely changed a few(a lot) of things from my one-shot, but it was necessary to make more sense in this book. And also I felt like my one-shot was written poorly.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and please make sure to leave a vote! XoXo
