baby lock the door and turn the lights down low

"turn on some music, make it nice and slow"

sexy times music aside, let's talk how to get in the mood for writing. and boys: there's no viagra for writing books. we could only wish.

mood setters:

-silence. get away from the clutter and confusion of irl. lock yourself up somewhere you can focus and let your ideas flow.

-play music. may seem counter-productive based on the first point, but music helps the brain works better with music. instrumental music in particular. especially video game music!! like stuff for a boss battle. it's actually specifically designed to get you all pumped and ready to do something.

(For me, it kinda depends with the music type, but lyrics can distract me. but other times i completely space out from the music and it simply makes nice background noise)

-find some specific time in your schedule for writing. i write on the bus and in the evenings. whens your free time?

-turn OFF the internet. dont distract yourself. keep the discipline, you chose to write, so write.

-find your ideal device. i write on my phone. its easier for me and makes me feel more comfortable. plus it's easy to write on the go.

-most of you wont hit the "writing zone" immediately. just wait. it'll happen around the 200-300 word in a row.

-and most important of all? dont think about anything else. will anyone read this thing? doesnt matter. is this crap? doesnt matter. can i actually do this? doesnt matter. finish what you're writing. if you never try, you'll never know the answer to any of these questions.

What helps you focus?
