how to avoid a boring chapter

In M/T there can be scenes where nothing is happening purely because there is always an interval between action but these scenes may put off readers because they are boring. There are many ways to avoid having these boring chapters by just adding in a few simple techniques, I think I have touched upon this in previous chapters but this is going to be an in depth guide in how to banish the boredum away.

1) Use dialogue.

Dialogue can be used to add suspense in M/T because you can make your character say something dramatic such as 'He won't get away with this'. Even if your character is talking to itself, it breaks up a boring chapter and can lengthen it if it is too short.

2) Flashbacks

Flashbacks provide a filler for a chapter and they bulk up any boring chapter. They can give a deeper insight into your character and can be worked into almost every story.

3) Other Characters

If your chapter is solely about you main character, the reader may get bored. Use a different POV (point of view) where you give some clues etc. Or have your main character interact with other characters.

4) Considering

Make sure your chapter contributes to the plot of your story. If it doesn't maybe reconsider what happens in the chapter. If you know that you would be bored reading it then that is a key sign that you need to replan.
