This isn't a telenovela. This is mystery and thriller which is dramatic in itself and doesn't need a character weeping on the side. Over dramatising events can work against you, as it makes the scenes feel less real to the reader and in turn may distract readers from the main focus.

If a character dies, don't go into movie mode and have rain fall and people crying left- right and centre. Keep it cool, and rather than describing actions, describe emotions. Pour all your effort into how a character is feeling.

Mystery and Thriller as a genre is pretty chill I think in certain things like death, just because there's always someone who dies. If you make things too dramatic, you come across sounding cheesy and like you are flogging a dead horse. Don't surround ten chapters about the death of someone and how that makes your MC sad.
