Often in the fandom world, main characters aren't described as anything other than beautiful. Or "they're gorgeous they just don't know it". Every time I see a story like this I leave because it's irritating as crap.

Characters are allowed to have flaws!

Write them with scars, dimples, freckles, acne, plus sized, bad eyebrows. Because they may be character you've created, but they're also supposed to be seen as real people. Real people have flaws, real people aren't perfect. That's a fact.

It's okay for a character to not see themselves as beautiful, but it's not okay for the character to go in between embracing their good-looks by seducing someone at a party and saying they're the ugliest person on the planet. 

An SO will always be more inclined to tell you that you're beautiful than anyone else. Because beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. So they'll see past what the character hates about themself and will see the true beauty of the character. 

So, don't be afraid to write a character that's a little less than perfect. Because the person reading the story will love it even more.
