SUMMARY/EPILOGUE/PROLOGUE
A summary is a a brief statement or account of the main points of something. A summary helps the reader better understand what the book is about, often containing small details and gives you an idea of what the characters are like, in example, here are the summaries for all three of my dark Harry series.
See how they all kind of gave you an idea of how dark they are, all the while not giving away too much? I hate looking for a book on here and having the author give you basically the whole story on the summary.
Harry Styles is an arrogant multi millionaire, a womanizer and cold hearted man. Y/N/L/N is a coffee shop barista in New York. One day, Harry enters the shop for a cup of coffee, spills the drink and he cusses her out but comes back anyway the next day on his way to work. Y/N ends up being intrigued by this cold hearted man, he changes for her and they get married and have babies.
Please, DON'T be that person.
What's a prologue and epilogue?
A prologue is a separate introductory section of a literary or musical work. → Valentina, daughter of an Italian mafia sent out to be protected by Styles, a tenacious and irritable 26 year old riddled with past demons and anger issues. Basically it's what the story is mainly about.
An epilogue is a section or speech at the end of a book or play that serves as a comment or a conclusion to what has happened. An example I would say, we all know the Twilight book cover where Edward is holding the apple, right? And in the movie in lunch when Bella is organizing her salad, she accidentally drops the apple and Edward catches it in his hands and it looks exactly like the book cover? That is kind of an example of an epilogue, it's usually something relevant to the story.
Okay, as I said at the beginning of this book, I usually take inspiration from quotes I find on Pinterest, also if I'm writing a book about dark!harry I ALWAYS listen to music in that genre, watch movies in that genre and read books in that genre.
Okay, carrying on, here's your book cover:
So here are some dark quotes I have found on Pinterest:
Anyways, take inspiration from quotes like this and dark music and that should give you an idea on what you want your book to be.
Summary.
"...Please, lock your doors and windows, ensure the safety of the ones around you. This man is dangerous, do not trust him. If you spot him, please alert authorities immediately." The man on the TV said, and just as I turn around to lock my doors, I get chills down my spine and feel as though I am no longer alone.
When I turn around, I find my suspicions are correct. The man they were plastering all over the news was standing right in front of me, his face inches away from mine.
Harry Styles is a psychopath who has escaped a mental institution and is on the loose sending the whole small town of Oregon into chaos. Y/N is in her twenties, she lives alone in a dorm room, a first year college student and is coming home from class late at night to find the notorious psycho in her dorm room, but things aren't as they seem.
Adding a hook to your summary is always a good idea, it gets your readers hooked on it and it makes them want to read it! Note, I added both an epilogue and a prologue to the summary, you can also do that as the first chapter, you can write on where you left off, giving your readers an idea of what they should expect for later on in the book when you do write the first official chapter.
Next, I will help you with the writing part and what words to use to better your writing. →
