Plagg's Plan (with a hint of Tikki)
The Miraculous each have a partner; they are one half of a matching pair.
To own a Miraculous you are selected alongside an equal. One will compliment the other, whilst displaying the characteristics shown of that specific energy. If the harmony is disrupted possible rifts could be caused, allowing the Miraculous to be used and abused for their power. Without a partner they are unbalanced and lethal.
The yin and yang matching of the Miraculous allows them to work to their greatest strength, and when paired up correctly, the power can be undefeatable, especially when bound by love.
Though this applies to all the jewels at home in the Miracle box, the greatest of power comes from the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous. Each holding power beyond belief with a need to remain close to each other and in balance.
Plagg, the kwami of the black cat Miraculous, is the embodiment of destruction. The power he grants his holder was one of great chaos. Tikki, Plagg's other half, is the kwami of creation and exists within the Ladybug Miraculous. Both kwami's hold equal yet opposite capabilities and strengths, which is only enhanced by their choice of holder. The force circulating through both of these Miraculous sends a surge of power through their holder, a power which it would be up to their holder to contain. If the holder is too weak it will overcome them, draining their body of life to support its own.
For Tikki, her holder needs to be wise, creative and level headed, being the saviour to any harm caused by any other of the Miraculous, or any other powergiving entity. The ladybug would revert everything back to normal, and be the key to all hope. Plagg, however, needs a wielder who would be able to control ultimate destructive power. They need to be pure, forgiving and in no way malicious. In the wrong hands, the power of destruction could lead to mass devastation, undoing and anarchy. Therefore, a blend of perfection and loyalty must be shared between the holders. They must work together, in both love and attainment.
Which brings us to the current holders of each of these small Gods.
For the past five years, Plagg has co-lived with twenty-five year old ex-model, and fencing instructor, Adrien Agreste. Adrien is kind hearted and selfless, he would do anything for anyone even if he got stamped on during the journey. His heart longed to be loved after experiencing a cold and icy childhood, and that love led to him becoming besotted with his partner in anti-crime, Ladybug. Adrien had a strong head on his shoulders, using his balance to make decisions and allowing him to be a fierce protector, ultimately, saving the day.
Although Ladybug and himself had decided that they were safer separate, that didn't stop him from dreaming, and wishing, and wanting. If he couldn't have her, he'd have no one else, he was committed in love to his partner, and would only see his own happily ever after featuring a raven haired, blue eyed girl. His love and loyalty stood by his Ladybug, with the hope that maybe one day things would be different.
Ladybug meant the world to him, and he knew she felt the same way too. Both had tried to get into relationships with other people, trying to ease away the yearning for each other hoping it would just be the want of a partner, of someone to love them and support them. But surprise ... that never worked. No one could fill the endless void in their hearts waiting to be filled by the other.
Adrien had received his Miraculous at the age of twenty. He had been on the verge of severe depression due to his fathers wants and needs, for whatever Gabriel Agreste wanted he got. It came without if's, but's or maybe's and Adrien prayed for freedom and a chance to live. Thanks to Plagg his fight for freedom came in the form of a cat with a powerful cheese addiction, and suddenly his dreams were starting to come true. Not only did he now have a reason for respecting himself, he also gained two deep relationships, one with his kwami and one with his partner.
Tikki, however, was living the high life with twenty-three year old artist and designer Marinette Dupain-Cheng above a warm patisserie owned by her parents, as a kwami with a sweet tooth she was in heaven. Not only was Marinette skilled in the majority of her art forms, she was also the current Guardian of the Miracle Box, and she was a darn good one too. Master Fu, the last guardian, passed on the box a year ago, only four years after Marinette had become the crime fighting lady in red.
At the age of eighteen, Marinette had been in the flow of university; balancing commissions, and her studies alongside being a hero. Though in a relationship at that point in her life, it didn't take long for her to fall head over heels for her partner. Her relationship with Chat Noir was deep in a way only fairytales described, but her dual life as a grown up and guardian of the Miracle box halted her need for love. As much as it pained her, she had greater callings in life and there was no room for romance.
Marinette was kind and caring, and overtime became the one constant in Adrien's life bringing him out of the depths of depression. Not that she knew she was, of course. Marinette took her role as Ladybug and the Guardian of the Miracle Box very seriously, and although she always dreamt of getting married and having a family, life had taken an unexpected turn. Making her role as the Guardian to indefinite power more important than just adding to the population, her attention needed to remain there.
Plagg and Tikki both agreed that their owners' meeting would be a necessity in the defeat of evil yet to come. Their opposite, yet complementary personalities would help them attack at full strength; not only because they donned the yin and yang Miraculous, but also the love connection which would expand and develop over time. As simple as it seemed to place these two holders at a position of a greater power, there was one major issue: Adrien and Marinette had never met each other as ... well ... Adrien and Marinette.
Due to the slight age gap, when Adrien had finally been allowed out of his hell hole of a mansion to start lycée, Marinette was two years his junior and still in collège. They'd bumped into each other a couple of times over the years, and had some close calls transformation-wise, but still Marinette and Adrien were nothing more than passing strangers, if you didn't count the females' tiny crush on the model when they were mere teens.
But all that was about to change.
"Tikki," Plagg flew into Marinette's room, phasing through the window, and pulled his red and black spotted counterpart to one side away from the prying eyes of the other kwami's, "we need to act now. The Kid's getting married."
"But - but - but,"
He grabbed the little red kwami's shoulders and shook her, stopping the stuttering and helping her get her words out. Tikki finally got a hold of herself and looked at Plagg, perplexed.
"You said he wasn't in a relationship, now you're telling me not only does he have a girlfriend, he's getting married" Tikki hissed, cautious to keep her voice low as Marinette was just downstairs in her parents kitchen.
The thought of Chat getting married would kill Marinette. Even though she'd sworn off a relationship, her heart still held a burning flame for her superhero partner.
Plagg sighed and looked over to his forever friend. His holder was too good for this world and once again had sacrificed himself for that of a friend, of someone in need.
"She needs to tell him how she feels, this is the end of the road for them if not, he's deadly serious about this!" Plagg announced.
Tikki hoped the small black creature had been scheming and had a plan ready, at the moment she was completely out of ideas. Marinette was adamant; they didn't reveal identities, date, admit their love for each other or any of the above.
"You know she's too stubborn. Secret identities and all that, she's really believing that she can't have a life outside of being the master."
"We need to change that Tikki, they belong together."
"How can you change his love for someone else? We know how powerful the love emotion can be. Perhaps Marinette should hand over her ladybug Miraculous to this girl, maybe it's time for a new ladybug and then she can concentrate more on the Miracle box and breaking the Grimoire."
Plagg could see his counterparts eyes filling with tears, there was no way that was happening. Tikki loved Marinette and there was no one she'd want to be with more. Plus there's no way 'fencer girl' would hold a bar to the current Ladybug. She was special, she was one of the greats, she was simply Miraculous. Plus Plagg knew Adrien would refuse to work with anyone else, regardless of matrimonial promises.
"He loves your holder Tikki, he's pretty much handing his life over as he knows they'll never be together."
"What do you mean?"
"Fencer girl and my kid have an agreement. I only found out an hour ago, you see it all started when I went looking for my next round of Camembert ..."
One hour ago ...
Plagg was starving. He'd only had two wheels of Camembert today, plus a couple of rouge pieces while Adrien was teaching his fencing class. The blonde had been busy for most of the day and hadn't had a chance to stock up and fulfil the usual four wheels a day quota, which Plagg had taken the burden on to remind him all the way home.
To make matters worse, they were at her house again. Usually Plagg would stay in the confines of Adrien's fencing bag, but today he was hungry, and there was a serious lack of cheese in there. 'Fencer girl' was rich and he knew she always kept Camembert in due to Adrien's 'obsession' with it.
Phasing through the bag he made his way over to the kitchen area, however the conversation happening on the couch at that very moment froze him in his tracks. This was something new he hadn't heard before, and he was curious to hear where this was going.
"Adrien, my mother wants us to split up." Plagg froze, split up? They weren't even dating.
"Why?" Adrien sounded shocked.
"She doesn't agree to our relationship."
Our relationship? Plagg was puzzled, they didn't have a relationship. They may have kissed once or twice when they were younger but that was about it. He was quite sure the girl didn't like Adrien in that way.
"She says its bad on business to have a lesbian as a daughter. She wants to send me back to Japan to find a more suitable partner." The words were spat out with such venom, Plagg coiled himself backwards.
He flew away quickly hiding himself in the cabinet opposite to where the two were sitting. Suddenly intrigued by their conversation.
"What is wrong with your mother? We don't live in the 1950's anymore, you can love and date who you want."
"Apparently not," Kagami's voice had lost any of the seriousness Plagg was used to hearing and he watched solemnly as tears ran down the strong girl's face. She was a pretty crier. Just tears, no sobbing or huffing.
Plagg watched Adrien move forward, holding Kagami in a hug. It looked so awkward. She had turned her shoulder into Adrien's chest, looking nothing more than someone who hated physical contact.
Adrien moved away after a brief moment and took his phone out of his pocket, walking away and holding it up to his ear. As Plagg couldn't hear his holder's conversation he decided to carry on his mission, deciding to pick up with Adrien later in the day.
Now where was that Camembert?
About forty minutes later, and two delicious wheels of expensive Camembert, an annoying chime woke him out of a beautiful cheesy dream. Grouchily, he made his way out of the cupboard and towards the noise, only to find the blonde haired girl enter the room and sweep Kagami into her arms. Strangely, Kagami seemed to be fine with this physical contact, she seemed to be melting into it, looking almost as though she craved it.
Adrien was standing off to the side looking longingly at the two girls currently in a tight embrace and that's when his idiot holder made a deal with the girls, a deal which had gotten them into this situation.
Present Time
"So let me get this straight, your holder is covering for their relationship by marrying Kagami, and you never thought to tell him it was a bad idea?" If Tikki wasn't already red, Plagg was quite sure the colour would be spreading from her head to her tail in anger.
"What part of I didn't know until an hour ago do you not understand?" Plagg responded.
"Don't get snappy with me, Plagg. I know you want their happily ever after as much as I do. They can only reach their full potential if they're together."
"Don't blame me!"
"You should have told him!"
"You should have told her! Why haven't you encouraged pigtails to be truthful with him. He's just doing as she asked!"
"You just don't get it!"
"Yes, I do. I'm here now aren't I?" Plagg attempted in defence of himself.
They hovered in silence, neither willing to look at the other.
"When's he proposing?" Tikki asked, looking around the room pouting her lips.
"Sometime around Christmas, it hasn't been decided yet. He's going shopping for rings next week with the bee, then asking 'fencer girl's mother for permission the week after."
Tikki took a deep breath.
"What's the plan then mastermind?" Tikki asked her scheming partner.
"We get our holders together, they'll meet and, hopefully, fall in love. We both know he'll be just as caught up in her without the suit, as when she's in it. The kid deserves a good life, he's put others' needs in front of his own for far too long, and hopefully she'll be able to show him the light. We both know, and I can't believe I'm saying this, how wonderful she is."
"Awww, Plagg," Tikki squealed, taking him into a hug, "you do care." He quickly pushed her away from him, keeping the distance professional once more.
"Don't get used to it, Sugarcube," the kwami of destruction sulked.
"How and when do we start?" She asked, only to be interrupted by a sweet, harmonious voice.
"Tikki? Where are you?" Plagg and Tikki ducked for cover as Marinette's voice was heard floating up the staircase to her loft style bedroom. "Tikki? Come on, we've got a patrol to do." She shouted again.
"Get pigtails to meet us at the arcade, La Tête Dans Les Nuages, Paris Opéra at seven tomorrow evening." Plagg spoke hurriedly as he began to head towards the window.
"Plagg," Tikki shouted out and stopped him before he phased through the skylight, "I hope this works. I know you really like your holder."
"I don't just like him, Tikki, I love him. He's the best I've ever had."
"She's mine too. We can do this, we're an unstoppable team." Tikki dropped Plagg a wink, causing the serious kwami to laugh.
"Now we sound like the two of them." He said, flying out of the window and on the way 'home' to Adrien.
Operation 'How to win a girl in ten dates' was a-go.
