CHAPTER 2: DO'S AND DO NOTS OF COVERMAKING
I'm back! And this chapter, I'll be telling you about the do's and do nots of covermaking. (it's in the title). Quick disclaimer though: You do you. I will not be able to stop you. Get those creative juices flowing. However, I will be telling you what mostly makes a good cover.
DO NOTS
DO NOT use more than two fonts on your cover. If you do, it will start looking messy and unorganised.
DO NOT use too bright font colors. It's distracting and looks bad most of the time. ESPECIALLY DON'T use colors that don't go with the rest of the cover. To be safe, you can use white, black and gray.
DO NOT use too many 'stuff' on your cover. It will look too crammed. Remember: less is more. DON'T just randomly slap on things either. (Also make sure the colors go well together!)
DO NOT use fonts that are overused, Comic Sans for example. Download new fonts from Dafont. My favorites are shorelines script bold (see less is more cover), colors of autumn (see transformed cover) and bakery (haven't used that one yet) (oh look there it is)
DO'S
DO practice a lot. Experiment with layering, colors. Only that way you will discover new things.
DO always use the right size (512x800 or 256x400), or else the sides will be cut off and it won't look nice. Just do.
DO place titles strategically. Don't put them in front of the fc's face etc. (disclaimer! depending on your image, it might look cool; don't be afraid to try it)
DO use high quality pictures. DON'T use pictures with part of the head cut off, blurry pictures or pngs that are badly cut out. (I will do a chapter on how to find good pics in the future)
So this was it! Whether you choose to stick with these or not, I hope you enjoyed and learned. Again, these are just guidelines! Don't feel obliged to stick with them!
Also, if you want me to do a tutorial for any of these covers, leave a comment. This goes for any cover I use in this book. All of them are made by me solely for this purpose. (you can steal all of my ideas)
Good luck!
WILD!
I'm sorry I had to
