Gobber pushes Hiccup out and helps him to the crest of a hill to use the trap, keeping them quiet so they can find the Nightfury to shoot it down. Gobber is very panicked and stands behind Hiccup to help him stand with the recoil. Hiccup hits his chest with a thud, wincing as his wounds are pressed. Gobber makes him sit, the shriek of the Nightfury now a distant sound.

Hiccup cries from the pain and Gobber holds him as the hulking figure of Stoik comes over the hill.

Stoik's expression of shock is almost audible.

"What did I-"

"SHUT UP!!"

Hiccup breaks down crying, curling into Gobber's welcoming arms.

Stoik growls at this. He is Hiccup's father, not the one who is sheltering his horrible son. Hiccup shakes as he cries, his voice loud despite his size.

"WHAT DID GOBBER DO?! HE'S THE ONLY ONE TO F***ING CARE ABOUT ME!! I'M THE HORRIBLE LITTLE RUNT!! I DON'T BELONG HERE!! I CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO KEEP YOU HAPPY!! I CAN'T EVEN MAKE A SWORD FOR YOU!! YOU JUST MAKE ME FEEL LIKE THOSE DRAGONS YOU TORTURE!! THEY'RE JUST SCARED AND FIGHTING FOR THEIR YOUNG!! LIKE YOU USED TO BE!! TO ME!!"

Hiccup whimpers as he shakes, Gobber keeping him sitting down. Tears streaming down his cheeks now, the many Vikings hearing his shouts across the island, the dragons now quiet as they listen so the poor boy explode.

"NO ONE EVER INCLUDES ME!! I AM ONLY ABLE TO BE HAPPY WHEN AROUND THIS OUTCAST YOU CALL GOBBER!! YOU WERE NEVER MY FATHER AND I WAS NEVER YOUR SON!! I AM NOTHING BUT A HINDER TO YOU!! YOU NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL ACCEPT ME!!"

Hiccup curls into Gobber, the older man standing up and holding Hiccup close as he walks away, angry shouts from Stoik following at a distance. Gobber too fast to be caught up with.

Gobber stops by a cove and lets Hiccup rest, he sits down and has Hiccup stay warm. The speed of Gobber fleeing through the forest making trees a blur, following the destructive path of the Nightfury's fall.

Gobber looks at the trapped dragon watching them, the net being cut open by his tail. The dragon growls but doesn't attack, knowing that Gobber will fight to defend the boy in his arms. The dragon slowly approaches and sniffs them. Gobber moves his wing and lets her sniff Hiccup.

The dragon seems to relax and nuzzles Hiccup, finding some wood and making a fire for them to stay warm. She lays down and Gobber lets her hold Hiccup, he can always tell when a dragon is meant to be a merger candidate, it is why the Nightfury is so calm so quickly.
