Chapter One

A s t r i d

I aimed and threw my axe into a tree, where it sunk in deep within the trunk. I walked over to the tree, placed my foot onto the trunk and hands onto the axe, and tugged the axe out. I was about to plunge the axe into another tree when I heard the sound of a twig snap.

Whipping my head around to the source of the noise, I focused on anything that seemed out of place. I cautiously walked forward, wielding my axe, preparing to strike if anything came popping out. Leaves rustled in the bushes in front of me, and I caught a glimpse of caramel-brown hair.

"Come out, I know you're there!" I shouted. The person behind the bush came crawling out, looking scared as she stared at the axe I was holding above my head. What surprised me was that she seemed to be only 9 years old.

"P-please don't h-hurt me!" the little girl pleaded. I lowered my axe and knelt down in front of her. "I won't hurt you, but tell me why you are on Berk? I've never seen you around here before." The girl seemed to relax. She started to answer my question. "Well, mom and dad are here to talk to a friend about something. I got lost in the forest. I tried to find my way back to mom and dad, but I don't know where this is!" the little girl explained, tearing up.

"Don't cry! I'll help you find them." I told her. The girl wiped her tears away and grasped my hand. I smiled warmly at her. "My name is Astrid Hofferson, what's yours?"

She stared up at me with her adorable sky blue eyes. "My name is Hean. Hean Hofferson. We have the same last name!"

So, Hean is a character I made up. What do you think? Is it pure coincidence that Astrid and Hean have the same last name or is there something more to it?
