Test Flight
...
Third Person P.O.V
The destroyed Viking ships return, everyone mostly unharmed. They row to the docks, everyone's mood slightly sour at the unfruitful quest.
Stoick heavily sighs, grabbing the hand of the Viking helping him up. He pats his shoulder in thanks, sighing once more.
Samuel and Hanna follow after, eager to see Astrid and (Y/N) once more, since they left (Y/N) on a bad note.
"I trust you found the nest, at least?" Gobber questions, looking at the scorched ships.
"Not even close." Stoick growls back, stomping past him.
"Ah. Excellent," Gobber sarcastically mumbles, nodding to Astrid's parents.
"I hope you had more success than me," Stoick continues, walking along the dock.
"Well... If by success, you mean that your-- all of your parenting troubles are over," Gobber starts, making Samuel and Hanna look at him in question, "then... Yes."
"Congratulations, you lot!" A woman shouts, hugging Hanna with a grin. "Everyone is so relieved!"
"Out with the old and in with the new, right?" A man smiles, happily following the woman.
"No one will miss those old nuisances!"
"We're throwing a party to celebrate!"
Stoick lightly gasps, looking at Gobber as Samuel and Hanna look at each other.
"(Y/N)? Is she alright?!" Hanna quickly questions, startling Gobber.
"I told Astrid to keep an eye on her," Samuel growls, shaking his head with a heavy sigh as he rubs his forehead.
"They're gone?" Stoick questions, Gobber shrugging lightly.
"Em, yeah," he nods, walking along as the three parents follow. "Most afternoons. But, who can blame them? They hardly get any alone time anymore. They can barely walk through the village without being swarmed by their new fans."
"Hiccup and (Y/N)?" Stoick repeats, his voice full of disbelief.
"I knew she could do it," Hanna sighs in relief, smiling.
"But... Really? (Y/N)? Not Astrid?" Samuel questions, his tone confused before he shakes his head with another sigh.
"Who would have thought, eh?" Gobber grins, looking off. "They have this... Way with the beasts."
...
Hiccup takes in a deep breath, smiling over at (Y/N) as (D/N) flies besides him and Toothless, putting him a little more at ease as they soar through the sky.
"Okay there, (Y/N)?" He calls, making her nod as she nervously looks down.
"Yep! Just... Still getting used to how high up we are. I'll be fine, though!" (Y/N) smiles, making him nod.
"Okay, bud," he gets Toothless' attention, "we're gonna take this nice and slow."
"We'll be alright, right (D/N)?" (Y/N) smiles, rubbing his neck as he purrs lightly.
"Here we go, here we go," Hiccup mumbles, looking over his cheat-sheet. "Position... Three. No, four!"
He looks back, shifting his foot and adjusting the tail-fin. Toothless rolls his shoulder, snorting softly as he begins to glide, his body tipped to the side.
(D/N) copies him, flying slightly above the two.
"Your safety rope holding up?" Hiccup shouts over the wind, testing his own.
She pulls on the strap, nodding as the hook remains put.
"Yeah! You're a genius, Hiccup! I can't believe how well these work," (Y/N) laughs with a grin, feeling a little better and safer with the secure rope.
Hiccup dorkily grins at the compliment, a light blush on his cheeks. Toothless lowly rumbles, getting his attention.
"All right, it's go time," Hiccup nods, looking back at the tail-fin and nodding. "It's go time!" He shouts to (Y/N), her giving a thumbs up in reply.
Both dragons begin to gracefully dive, Toothless roaring with joy and (D/N) closing his eyes and basking in the feeling of the wind on his wings.
(Y/N)'s stomach flips as she laughs, the wind rushing past her hair and the ocean's water splashing on her as Toothless dips his wing in the water.
"Come on, buddy! Come on, buddy!" Hiccup encourages Toothless, checking on (Y/N) before he smiles at her wide grin.
He faces forward, looking up at the sound of seagulls flying overhead as they fly underneath a rock archway.
"It worked!" (Y/N) grins, (D/N) flying besides the two and playfully bumping into Toothless.
Toothless snorts, playfully nipping back before focusing on the tall rocks ahead. (D/N) gracefully avoids them, Toothless ramming into one of them as (Y/N) and Hiccup cringe.
"Sorry!"
(D/N) tilts his head, roaring softly as Toothless runs into another one.
"Hiccup--"
"My fault!" Hiccup apologizes, yelping as Toothless smacks him with his ear.
(Y/N) laughs, (D/N) chittering with a snort of amusement.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm on it! Position four. Uh, three."
Toothless begins to fly upward, (D/N) doing the same and spinning around Toothless, the two dragons moving in sync.
"Yeah! Go, baby!" Hiccup shouts, making (Y/N) laugh.
"This is amazing! Scary, but amazing!" She sighs softly, holding tighter onto the saddle as she looks down. "How about a race, Dragon Boy?" (Y/N) grins, (D/N) lowly rumbling as Toothless rolls his shoulder again in determination.
"Oh, you are so on--!" Hiccup watches as they ascend at a fast speed, gaining a few hundred feet. "-- you... Incredible girl." He chuckles, shaking his head.
Toothless starts flying after them, tailing behind a little as Hiccup laughs lightly.
"Oh, this is amazing! The wind in my--" Hiccup sharply gasps as the cheat-sheet snaps off the saddle. "Cheat-sheet! Stop!"
He lunges for it, Toothless halting his flying. Hiccup's hook latches off, making him soar a few inches above Toothless.
His ears perk, his eyes widening when he sees Hiccup and starts falling from the sky with a roar.
(D/N) suddenly halts, making (Y/N) gasp and tightly hold on as her hook detaches from the saddle.
"(D/N)? What's--" she gasps with wide eyes as she looks down, watching as the two start falling from the sky. "Go, go!" (Y/N) shouts, hanging on as he begins to dive after them.
...
"Oh, gosh! Oh, gods! Oh, no!" Hiccup panics, smacking into Toothless' wing as he falls.
Toothless roars at Hiccup, twirling as he falls besides him.
"All right! Y-You gotta kinda-- angle yourself!" He yells as Toothless starts spinning out of control. "Okay, no, no, no. Come back down towards me! Come back down-- OW!" Hiccup yelps as his tail smacks him in the face.
"Hiccup!" (Y/N) shouts, flinching when she sees Toothless smack him.
(D/N) swoops down, flying next to Toothless and letting out a roar. Toothless snorts, halting his spinning as he falls near Hiccup.
Hiccup reaches for the saddle, the cheat-sheet flying wildly as he holds it between his teeth. He manages to pull himself back down on the saddle, swiftly hooking himself back on.
(Y/N) does the same, struggling for a moment before she looks at Hiccup.
Both make eye contact before looking down at the approaching ground, her scream loud and Hiccup's yell muffled.
Both dragons open their wings, the harsh wind slamming on them and slowing them down as Toothless roars, (D/N) narrowing his eyes when he sees the rock maze.
(Y/N) looks up at Hiccup with wide eyes as he looks between her and his cheat-sheet, tossing it before taking a deep breath, shifting his foot.
(D/N) and Toothless spin around each other, moving in sync as Hiccup confidently uses the gears correctly. (Y/N) keeps her eyes on Hiccup, trusting (D/N) to keep her steady.
(D/N) snorts softly, moving zig-zag through some rocks before spiraling smoothly, flying besides Toothless once more.
After maneuvering through a few more tall rocks and a few more spins, the four made it out, unharmed.
Hiccup lightly pants as he sits back, (Y/N) laughing in relief and cheering for him.
"Yeah, Hiccup! Nice wing work, Toothless!" She calls, sighing softly in relief.
(D/N) snorts softly, making her smile and gently pat his neck.
"You did amazing too, (D/N)," she coos, making him rumble softly with perked ears.
"Yeah!" Hiccup laughs and cheers, Toothless blasting a fire ball ahead. "... Come on!"
(D/N) avoids it, (Y/N) chuckling as Toothless happily flies into it, Hiccup a little less excited.
...
(Y/N)'s P.O.V
I smile softly as I stroke (D/N)'s head, him sleeping next to me curled in a ball.
I glance over at Hiccup, snickering at his wild hair as he continues to rub some ash from his cheek.
Toothless was resting behind us, eating a pile of fish we got for him. (D/N) already ate his, and crashed.
"Well... That was some first flight," I say in a light tone, looking at the fire.
"No kidding," Hiccup agrees, shaking his head with a small smile.
"When you were falling... When I saw you..." I trail off, choosing my words carefully as he tilts his head. "You scared me. Thought I was gonna lose you for a second," I awkwardly laugh at the end, hoping to ease the tension of my words.
His brows furrow as he frowns, "o-oh."
He was quiet for a moment, making me clear my throat and look at the small fire as I lean back, my hand at my side and the other holding a cooking fish.
I jump as something brushes against my hand, making me look over as Hiccup slightly grins at me, setting his hand on mine in comfort.
I smile back before jumping as Toothless begins to gag, spitting up a fish's head. He pushes it towards us, licking his lips.
"Uh... No thanks," Hiccup declines, showing his cooking fish. "We're good."
We both look up at the sound of high-pitched roaring, (D/N)'s ear flickering as his head rises.
Terrible Terrors flock to us like birds, Hiccup's hand tightening over mine as Toothless lowly growls, (D/N)'s scales spiking as he hisses.
One of them try to snatch Toothless' fish, making me flinch as he snaps at it. Another snatches the piece Hiccup offered us, dragging it away before nibbling it.
A Terrible Terror slowly approaches, making the other hisses before squeaking as it blows fire.
"Awh," I lightly laugh, shaking my head as it cowers behind its wing.
Another Terrible Terror swipes a fish, making Toothless snatch it and the two tug at it, Toothless winning.
He eats the fish before rumbling a laugh, the Terrible Terror snorting as it swipes at the ground with low growls.
Hiccup looks at me with uncertainty as it begins to inhale, opening its mouth to spit fire. Toothless blasts his own small breath of fire, causing it to squeak and deflate as it waddles around.
"Huh. Not so fire proof on the inside, are you?" Hiccup lightly questions, shaking his head as he takes his fish off the stick. "Here you go."
It squeaks, eagerly eating it as I chuckle, tossing my own fish to the still-cowering Terrible Terror. It peeks its head out from its wing, eyeballing the fish before scarfing it down.
Hiccup chuckles once more, leaning against Toothless as (D/N) settles down once more, huffing softly.
I yawn, stretching before settling my head against his shoulder with a soft sigh. He tenses, making me snicker slightly before I notice the Terrible Terror's approaching.
They chitter lightly, slowly waddling to us before one moves to Hiccup's side, nudging under his arm as the other squeaks softly, climbing onto my lap with a light purr.
My heart slightly melts as I gently rest my hand on its back, making it chitter in surprise before purring and leaning into my touch. Hiccup looks between the two dragons shaking his head.
"Everything we know about these guys... is wrong!"
