Late Night Talk
...
(Y/N)'s P.O.V
Hiccup grinned at me as we walked up to 'my' house, making me smile back before facing the door with a small sigh.
"Today was... fun. I mean, minus the whole you-almost-dying part," I say after a moment, making him scoff a small laugh.
"No kidding. Really could have done without that," Hiccup agrees, nodding and awkwardly looking around. "So... I'll, um... It was nice hanging out with you today. I-- I mean, it always is, uh-- and I was, you know..."
He trails off for a moment, making me tilt my head with a small smile. Hiccup clears his throat, seeming bashful as he kicks at a pebble.
"Yeah?" I softly urge with confusion as I smile, tilting my head.
Hiccup clears his throat once more, wiping his hands on his vest and keeping his eyes on the ground as his cheeks begin to turn pink. "I was wondering if you'd... You know... Um... would you, maybe want to--"
"(Y/N)," Astrid's voice calls, and we turn and see her jogging up the path to us. "I've been looking everywhere for you. I needed to... talk to you." She looks between us with a neutral expression, "Alone."
I lightly flinch at her somewhat bitter tone, glancing over at Hiccup. Hiccup seemed disappointed, visibly deflating as he frowns and rubs the back of his neck. He nervously looks over at me, clearing his throat and slowly backing away.
"Right, so I'm just going to... yeah. I'll-- I'll see you tomorrow, (Y/N)," Hiccup stammers before turning around, clumsily rushing away.
I smile and shake my head as he trips, barely managing to catch himself. He dusts himself off, looking around before disappearing from my sight.
"Listen." Astrid's sharp voice causes me to jump, her icy stare unwavering. "I just thought you should know..."
She pauses for a moment, her eyes darting down before she takes a deep breath, standing straight and returning her glare to me.
"There's no way you're winning tomorrow. I don't get how you and Hiccup made it this far, but it stops now." She hisses, the fist at her side clenched in fury. "I'm going to be the one to kill the Monstrous Nightmare. Got that?"
I was caught off guard by how cold and determined she seemed, though I should've been used to it by now.
"I--I..." I stammer, rubbing my neck as she raises a brow while crossing her arms. "... Okay."
Her glare falters.
"Okay?" She repeats in a tone of disbelief, slightly glaring at me.
"Yes. Okay," I repeat once more and shrug, sighing heavily. "I mean, I don't even want... I... I just... don't understand you."
I frown, shaking my head and looking at her with a genuine look.
"Why do you hate me so much?"
Astrid flinches, though it was barely noticeable. She casted her gaze down, a large frown stretched on her face before she looks back up at me.
"I don--"
"There she is!" A familiar woman's voice calls, making us both jump and look down the path.
"You're... back," Astrid trails off as I flinch, Hanna nearly tackling me to the ground in a hug.
"Oh! We've heard so much about you and Stoick's boy!" She gushes, making me grunt as she squeezes me tightly.
I look over at Astrid, wincing as she glares at me before rolling her eyes, looking away with crossed arms.
Samuel approaches, nodding at me with a neutral expression.
"Well done, (Y/N). You make me proud."
Astrid scoffs, shoving past me and her mom as she enters the house.
Hanna clicks, shaking her head. "Anyways!" She starts, ushering me inside as Samuel carries their supplies behind us. "Now you can tell us all about it! Oh, Astrid! Come start the fire, dear!"
"Oh, no, no, no," I quickly intervene as she yells up the stairs, rushing to the pile of wood. "I got it. No need for Astrid to!"
I frantically say with a nervous smile, piling the wood in before lighting it.
"Hmm. You take initiative. It's no wonder you're doing so well," Samuel's gruff voice says before he sighs, setting the basket of their belongings down.
"Astrid's doing well, too," I reply, watching Hanna join her husband. "She's probably the best one out of all of us--"
"But we haven't been hearing of her," Samuel interrupts, looking at me. "We've been hearing of you."
"I don't know why," I shake my head with a light huff. "Astrid's gone through every test and passed with the skills of a true warrior--"
"We heard you and Hiccup work well together! And you two made a Nadder collapse by simply touching it!" Hanna gushes, leaning forward. "Oh! Tell us all about it!"
I stare at them for a moment before looking towards the stairs, smiling.
"Well... Before that even happened Astrid saved my life. And Hiccup's," I start, looking down at my now-healed arm. "See... Hiccup and I were kind of stuck. Our shields were tangled up and our weapons weren't going to be much help. The Nadder charged at us and just as it was about to attack, bam! There Astrid was, slamming her shield against its face." I lightly laugh, shaking my head. "She didn't even have her weapon."
"That's my lass," her dad chuckles softly, nodding.
"My little girl's brave," Hanna smiles, sighing softly. "Tell us more."
I grin widely as I begin to tell them about Astrid's techniques and moves during our tests, adding in some of my experience along with Hiccup's while they listen intently, smiles on their faces.

Third Person P.O.V
Hiccup sighs softly, adding the finishing touch to (Y/N)'s hair before staring at the drawing.
In the drawing, (Y/N) was leaning her head on his shoulder, Toothless laying behind them and (D/N) curled up at her side.
A small smile stretches on his face as he looks at (Y/N), his fingers lightly brushing against it.
He sighs heavily, groaning in disappointment before slamming his head on the desk. He takes his pencil, and starts fiddling with it, flicking it up and copying this as it rolls back at him.
Hiccup sighs softly, moving the pencil back in place as he flicks it a few more times before it moves out of place once more.
He sits up, his eyes catching movement before he leaps up with a gasp.
"Dad! You're back!" Hiccup quickly starts moving his drawings of Toothless and (D/N) under his book, clearing his throat. "Gobber's not here, so..."
"I know," Stoick replies, grunting as he squeezes through the tiny door frame. "I came looking for you."
"Y-you did?" Hiccup stammers, continuing to move his drawings.
"You and the lass have been keeping secrets." Stoick says in a low voice.
Hiccup felt his heart drop as he swallows, "w-we, uh, we, we ha-ave?"
"Just how long did you think you two could hide it from me?"
"W-we... I-I don't know... What you're--"
"Nothing happens on this island without me hearing about it."
"O-oh."
"So..." Stoick starts, narrowing his eyes. "Let's talk... About those dragons."
Hiccup's hand slips off his book, his heart hammering as it falls to the ground.
"Oh, gods. Dad I'm so sorry," Hiccup pushes his hair back, looking at his drawings. "I-I was going to tell you. I just... Didn't know how to..." He pushes around his drawings, a drawing of (Y/N) catching Stoick's eye.
He begins to chuckle, which turns into a hearty laugh. Hiccup nervously laughs along, looking at his dad in confusion.
"Y-you... You're not... Upset?"
"What?!" Stoick questions, some laughter escaping him. "I was hoping for this!"
"Ah... You... Were?" Hiccup's brows furrow in confusion.
"You and the lass! And believe me, it only gets better! Just wait till you spill a Nadder's guts for the first time! And mount your first Gronckle head on a spear. What a feeling!" He shoves Hiccup, making Hiccup yelp and fall back into a basket. "You really had me going there, son! All those years of being the worst Viking Berk has ever seen."
Stoick takes in a deep breath of relief, "Odin, it was rough! I almost gave up on you! But the lass never did! She knew you were holding out on me!" He laughs, sighing once more. "Oh, Thor Almighty!"
He takes a seat as Hiccup wiggles out of the basket, smiling and exhaling.
"With you doing so well in the ring... And with (Y/N)... We finally have something to talk about." Stoick scoots forward with an eager grin, "so... How are things with you and the lass?"
Hiccup becomes silent, his cheeks slightly flushed as he nervously looks around as Stoick continues waiting for a response.
He opens his mouth to say something before shutting it again, sighing quietly.
Stoick eagerly scoots forward, his smile faltering slightly as he clears his throat.
"Oh. Here... I, um... I brought you something," he takes out a Viking helmet, adjusting the horn. "To keep you safe... In the ring."
Hiccup takes it with a small smile, "wow, thanks!"
"Your mother would have wanted you to have it," Stoick replies as Hiccup inspects the helmet with his hand. "It's half of her breastplate."
Hiccup quickly removes his hand, looking up at Stoick with a nervous laugh.
"Matching set," Stoick taps his helmet with a sad smile. "Keeps her... It keeps her close, you know."
Hiccup stares at the helmet with wide eyes as Stoick continues.
"Wear it proudly. You deserve it. You and the lass have held up your ends of the deal."
Hiccup slowly sets the helmet down with a guilty expression, awkwardly looking around before dramatically yawning.
"Oh, I should... Really... Get to bed. Um--"
"Yes! Good. Okay, good talk," Stoick stammers, rising and nodding.
"I-I'll see you back at the house--"
"We should do this again--"
"Great," Hiccup clears his throat. "Thanks for stopping by. And for the--"
"I hope you like the--"
"--breast hat."
"The hat." Stoick bumps his head on the beam, making him quickly adjust his helmet. "Well... Yep. Good night."
He squeezes out of the small room, leaving Hiccup alone.
Hiccup sighs heavily, shaking his head with a frown as he sets his hands on his waist.
...
Stoick sighs in relief, nodding with a smile as he sets his hands on his waist.
He walks forward, jumping as he runs into hanging metal and gear. He backs up, lunging for more weapons as they fall before adjusting his helmet, rushing away.
