Dragon Training
...
Third Person P.O.V
"So if anyone asks where we were... we were... Um..." (Y/N) trails off, rubbing her neck as she hums in thought.
"Frolicking through the woods," Hiccup shrugs, making her laugh lightly. "They'll probably believe it and won't ask questions, since, you know, it's us. The two strange ones."
(Y/N) lets out a soft snicker and nods, sighing as they approach her house.
"I hope they're all asleep," she says in a low voice, exhaling heavily as Hiccup watches her with a frown. "Astrid's gonna chew me out for not helping with the chores today." (Y/N) pauses and bitterly scoffs, "not that she needed a reason to yell at me. She hates my guts."
Hiccup watches her for a moment, frowning when he sees her crestfallen, tired expression.
"But... why?" Hiccup questions, shaking his head.
"I'm not sure," (Y/N) shrugs, crossing her arms. "Probably because I just showed up out of the blue and moved in. I... can understand her being upset. You'd be upset if I just randomly moved into your house, right?"
Hiccup stammers before shaking his head, "uh, nope. N-not at all."
(Y/N) shakes her head with a laugh, playfully pushing him and gasping before laughing once more as he falls over with a yelp.
"Thanks, Hiccup," she smiles, holding out her hand.
He takes it with a bashful grin, (Y/N) grunting lightly as she helps him up before frowning.
"I have Dragon Training tomorrow..." She trails off, rubbing her arm. "I... I don't want to fight dragons."
Hiccup frowns, pacing around before nodding.
"Come on, maybe we can talk to my Dad about getting you out of it," he suggests as he faces her, offering her a reassuring smile.
"Talk... to Stoick?" She repeats as he nods, grabbing her hand and dragging her with him as he begins to walk off.
"Yes... as... Crazy as it sounds," Hiccup replies, making her laugh lightly before sighing as they rush to his house.
...
(Y/N)'s P.O.V
Hiccup slowly opens the door, quickly walking inside and ushering me in as he silently closes the door.
"He looks busy," I whisper, watching Stoick poke at the coals as he welds something.
"Yeah... Let's just... Come on," Hiccup whispers, looking away from him as he quickly starts up the stairs, me behind.
"Hiccup." Stoick calls, making us both freeze.
"Dad!" Hiccup replies with surprise, grimacing and clearing his throat. "Uh... I have to talk to you, Dad," Hiccup nervously stammers as we both slowly climb down the stairs.
Stoick turns around, looking between us as I nervously smile and wave.
"I need to speak with you too, son." Stoick replies, walking towards us as he clasps his hands together.
"Do you want me to leave...?" I question slowly and nervously, making Hiccup quickly look down at me.
"No!" Hiccup quickly replies, wincing and looking away to Stoick. "Uh, no. Dad?"
"No, no. It's fine if you stay, lass." Stoick agrees as he nods, making me sigh in relief and nod.
"Okay, here goes." Stoick clears his throat lightly, starting. "I think it's time you learn to--"
Hiccup had started to quickly speak the same moment Stoick had. "We don't want to--"
"-- fight dragons," both finish at the same time, making me look between them. "What?" Both question at the same time once more.
"Uh, you go first," Stoick gestures to Hiccup, smiling awkwardly.
"No, no you go first," Hiccup replies, shaking his head as he motions back to Stoick.
"All right," Stoick nods, clasping his hands together and rubbing them. "You get your wish. Dragon training with (Y/N) and the others. You start in the morning."
My mouth drops as I look frantically at Hiccup as his eyes widen.
"Oh, man, I should have gone first." Hiccup stammers and groans, shaking his head. "Cause I was thinking... You know, we have a surplus of dragon-fighting Vikings... But do we have enough..." He hesitates, his hands raised as he gestures around, "Bread making vikings?"
"... Bakers?" I slowly speak as I look to Hiccup, making Stoick look between us.
"Or-- Or small-home-repair--"
"You'll need this," Stoick grunts and cuts Hiccup off, dropping a new axe in Hiccups arms. "And for you, lass."
I blink rapidly and quickly catch the sword he drops in my arms, making me gulp nervously at the sight of the sharp blade. The blade was a bit heavy, the handle a dark shade of black with dragon designs carved in it and the blade a bright white metal.
"I... this-- this is very kind, Chief Stoick, but, um..." I trail off, looking at Hiccup with apprehension as I blink quickly, gesturing to Stoick.
"We don't want to fight dragons." Hiccup finally says in a weak voice, looking at me before looking at his Dad.
Stoick bellows a laugh, hitting Hiccup's arm with amusement. "Oh, come on. Yes, you do!"
"Maybe we should rephrase," I suggest softly as Stoick walks away, clearing my throat as I call to him. "We can't kill dragons."
Stoick sighs with amusement, pointing up in a matter-of-fact manner, "But you will kill dragons."
"N-- No, I'm really very extra-sure that we won't," Hiccup stammers out, shaking his head.
"It's time, you two."
"Can you not hear us?!" Hiccup frantically questions as he approaches us.
"This is serious, you two." Stoick addresses us sternly, looking to me. "Your parents wanted you to be the best Viking you could be, (Y/N)."
I look away, sighing softly as he sets his large hand on my shoulder, grabbing the sword with the other hand.
"This blade once belonged to your mother. She carried it with pride, just as you will."
He takes my hand, firmly setting the sword's hilt in it and closing my fist as I nervously look over at Hiccup.
Stoick moves his gaze on Hiccup, turning his attention to him.
"When you carry this axe," he takes the axe from Hiccup, waving it. "You carry all of us with you." Stoick hands it back to Hiccup, "which means you walk like us." He straightens him out, "you talk like us," he then points to his head. "You think like us. No more..."
He pauses before gesturing to Hiccup.
"This."
Hiccup sighs as he rolls his eyes, "you just gestured to all of me."
"Deal?" Stoick demands, looking between us.
I open and close my mouth, unsure of what to say as Hiccup huffs.
"This conversation is feeling very one-sided."
"Deal?!"
We both look at each other, him slumping slightly before muttering, "deal."
Stoick looks at me, making me jump before slowly nodding.
"Deal..."
He smiles, nodding before patting my head. He swings a large basket of his belongings over his shoulder, sighing softly.
"Good. Train hard," Stoick grabs his helmet, making me gasp when I realize they were leaving once more to search for the Nest. "I'll be back. Probably."
"Be careful," I quickly call, making him look back with a slight nod as he leaves.
"And we'll be here... Maybe," Hiccup mumbles the last part, sighing.
"I should probably go," I sigh, looking down at the sword. "It's getting late, and--"
"You could always just... Crash here if you want to... You know. Avoid Astrid," Hiccup offers, smiling slightly. "We could draw, or just talk or sleep. W-whatever you want."
He looks away from me as he rubs his neck with an awkward smile, making me lightly laugh before I hug him.
"Thank you."

Third Person P.O.V
The Next Day...
"Welcome to Dragon Training!" Gobber yells as he hoists the gate upward, Astrid leading the others with a deep breath.
"No turning back."
They all hold their own unique weapons, admiring the arena in awe.
"I hope I get some serious burns," Tuffnut grins as he fist bumps the air.
"I'm hoping for some mauling," Ruffnut shrugs as she walks. "Like on my shoulder or lower back."
"Yeah," Astrid agrees, shrugging. "It's only fun if you get a scar out of it."
"Totally," (Y/N) sighs, making the others turn and watch as she and Hiccup enter.
"Pain. Love it," Hiccup sarcastically agrees as she lightly laughs.
Astrid glares lightly at (Y/N), wondering where she was all night.
"Oh, great. Who let them in?" Tuffnut whines, making (Y/N) roll her eyes as she adjust the sword on her hip.
"Let's get started!" Gobber interrupts, startling Hiccup and (Y/N). "The recruit that does best will win the honor of killing," he twists his hook down in a jerked motion as Hiccup flinches, (Y/N) wincing and holding her neck, "his first dragon in front of the entire village."
"Hiccup already killed a Night Fury, so does that disqualify him, or...?" Snotlout questions, making the others laugh.
"With that face, I'm surprised we don't consider you a dragon," (Y/N) boredly replies, making Snotlout's laughter stop as he tries to come up with a response.
Astrid simply shakes her head, scoffing as she walks off, the others following.
"She got you," Ruffnut cackles, her laughter echoing lightly.
"Don't worry," Gobber joins Hiccup and (Y/N). "You're both small and weak. That'll make you less of a target." He sets his hand on Hiccup's shoulder, his other arm wrapping around (Y/N) as he pushes them along. "They'll see you as sick or insane and go after the more Viking-like teens instead."
Gobber chuckles as he walks away from the two.
"Oh, great," (Y/N) sarcastically replies, looking over at Hiccup as he lightly chuckles.
"Behind these doors are just a few of the many species you will learn to fight," Gobber yells to the kids as he walks along the rattling gates. "The Deadly Nadder."
"Speed 8, armor 16," Fishlegs mumbles, making (Y/N) look over at him.
"The Hideous Zippleback."
"Plus 11 stealth times 2."
"The Monstrous Nightmare."
"Firepower 15."
"The Terrible Terror--"
"Attack 8, venom 12!"
"Can you stop that?!" Gobber finally shouts, making (Y/N) muffle a laugh as she grins at Hiccup. "And... The Gronckle."
"Jaw strength 8," Fishlegs whispers to (Y/N).
"Fascinating," she nods, making him grin before facing Gobber.
(Y/N) tilts her head as Gobber sets his hand on the lever, ready to release the dragon.
"Woah, woah, wait! Aren't you gonna teach us, first?" Snotlout demands, his voice panicked.
"I believe... In learning on the job," Gobber grins as he releases the latch, the Gronckle bursting through a moment later. "Today is about survival!"
Everyone scatters, (Y/N) staying by Hiccup's side before gasping when she sees the shields on display. She quickly taps him, making him nod when she points to them.
"If you get blasted, you're dead!"
The Gronckle slams into the wall, randomly eating some rocks.
"Quick, what's the first thing you'll need?" Gobber yells, pausing when he sees (Y/N) and Hiccup already at the shields.
"A doctor?" Hiccup shouts, (Y/N) laughing as she picks up a (F/C) shield.
"Plus 5 speed?" Fishlegs whimpers.
"A shield!" Astrid answers correctly.
"Shields, go!" Gobber nods, "seems like Hiccup and (Y/N) are already ahead of you lot!"
Astrid grunts and shakes her head, swiftly racing and grabbing a shield.
"Your most important piece of equipment is your shield!" Gobber continues as he walks towards Hiccup and (Y/N).
(Y/N) was slightly guarding Hiccup as he struggled to correctly grab the shield.
"If you must choose between a sword or a shield," Gobber yanks the shield up, shoving it to Hiccup and pushing him. "Take the shield!"
...
"Get your hands off my shield!" Tuffnut shouts, both him and his sister grabbing the same one.
"There's, like, a million shields!" She snaps back, yanking it.
"Take that one! It has flowers. Girls like flowers."
Ruffnut yanks the shield from his grip, slamming it on his head.
"Oops. Now this one has blood on it!"
Both continue to fight, yelping as the Gronckle fires a blast between them.
"Ruffnut, Tuffnut, you're out!" Gobber shouts.
"What?"
"Those shields are good for another thing. Noise!" Gobber instructs, "make lots of it!"
Astrid quickly follows his orders, slamming her axe against her shield. The others do the same.
"It throws off a dragon's aim."
The Gronckle shakes his head, dizzily looking between the blurry figures before focusing on Astrid.
"All dragons have a limited number of shots. How many does a Gronckle have?"
(Y/N) dives out of the way as the Gronckle spins its body around, nearly slamming into her. She tuck and rolls, landing a little ways off.
"Six?" She calls, forgetting.
"No, seven!" Fishlegs yells in excitement, waving his shield.
"Correct, seven! That's one for each of you!"
Fishlegs begins to say something, yelping as the shield was blasted out of his hand.
"Fishlegs, out."
Fishlegs screams as he runs away, joining the others other were out.
"Hiccup, get in there!" Gobber yells, Hiccup yelping as a blast was fired near him before he hides once more.
Astrid pants lightly as she joins (Y/N)'s side, side-eyeing her.
"You know my parents were worried because you didn't come back," she says in a harsh tone, making (Y/N) roll her eyes.
"I didn't ask them to be worried for me. And it's not like they really care. Especially not you!" (Y/N) snaps back, startling Astrid for a moment before (Y/N) ducks out of the way of a blast, racing to Hiccup.
Snotlout joins Astrid, not noticing her frustration and anger.
"So... I moved into my parents' basement. You should come by sometime to work out," he brags, watching as she somersaults away. "You look like you work out."
A blast was fired at him, making him yelp as his shield was blasted away.
"Snotlout, you're done!"
Astrid lands near Hiccup and (Y/N), making him nervously look between the two as they glare at one another.
"Looks like it's... You and us," he nervously laughs.
"Nope. Just you two," Astrid quickly replies, rushing away as a blast was fired.
It strikes both (Y/N) and Hiccup's shields away, making her yelp and stagger backwards before catching herself.
"One shot left!"
The Gronckle pursues (Y/N), making her gasp as she quickly reaches for her shield.
"(Y/N)!" Gobber yells, making Hiccup pause before racing to her aid.
(Y/N) spins around pressing herself against the wall with heavy breaths as the Gronckle flies at her. She gasps as Hiccup jumps in front of her, blocking her as the Gronckle corners them.
It opens its mouth, making Hiccup and (Y/N) flinch back as its throat lights up. The blast was fired just above them as Gobber uses his hook to snag the dragon's cheek, pulling it along.
(Y/N) lightly pants with wide eyes as she watches the Gronckle thrash against Gobber before she looks at Hiccup, his eyes also wide as he swallows thickly.
"That's... Seven!" Gobber grunts, swinging his hook around. "Go back to bed you overgrown sausage!"
He locks the Gronckle back up, sighing.
"You'll get another chance, don't you worry."
The kids join Gobber as he walks near (Y/N) and Hiccup, both still in shock.
"Remember. A dragon will always," Gobber leans down to the two with a firm stare, "always, go for the kill."
He hoists Hiccup up, doing the same to (Y/N) as he turns and walks away.
Hiccup looks back at the fire blast on the wall in confusion, sighing softly.
