Chapter 11
Warning: Mention of blood.
"Dragons!" You heard warning horns as people around you were getting ready for battle. Homes were already lite with flames and you got ready with buckets of water to be tossed into the fire with everyone else who would be with you taking care of the fire. Everyone on your team agreed to cover a certain area of the village and would come back to get more supplies. Your area was next to Astrid's and in your line of sight was Hiccup in the forge working.
The battle escalated quickly and became more aggressive than usual when the night fury appeared and started firing at the village, never missing its target. You always found it odd how it never takes any food supplies and never appears in eyesight.
Things were starting to calm down in your area, so you only took a moment to glance at Hiccup's work station only to find it empty. Taking a double take, you found the forge completely emptied. You panicked and started searching for him, but as soon as you did, a deadly nadder swooped down and tried burn you with its fire. You managed to dodge it but the dragon continued to fire at you as you hid behind behind shields, doors, and anything else that could cover you.
Where are you, Hiccup?
~.~.~
"So," Hiccup stuttered, "where have you been, Ragna? It's been four years."
"Wow," you scratched the back of your head slightly, "it's been that long? Feels like it was yesterday when I left."
I need to stop having these inside jokes in my head...
"Well, it has been a while."
You answered awkwardly back while looking slightly down. You wondered how much farther you traveled this time. You question was answered when you saw both legs still on Hiccup. You guessed it was before Hiccup met Toothless.
"I want to show you what I have been doing since you were gone." Hiccup signaled you into the back of the shop where papers were scattered. You could see scribbles and crosses as if the ideas on the paper were no good. He went to one of his inventions that were covered by a cloth. He pulled the cloth off and you couldn't help but find the invention familiar.
You raised an eyebrow while still staring at the object. You racked the back of your brain but you couldn't put your finger on it. "Uh, what is it?"
"It's a canon," he smiled. You couldn't help but smile at the memory of when Hiccup first showed you the canon. "I'm not very strong yet but in the mean time, this baby will shoot out bolas for me and capture a dragon."
"Capture a dragon," you repeated questionably, "Hiccup, are you still trying to kill a dragon?"
Hiccup sighed and brushed his hair back, "I'm sorry, Ragna, but this is to prove myself to everyone--"
"Into becoming a viking?" you cut him off rudely. You stared into his eyes looking for any regret showing through them. You only found guilt. You faced away from him not wanting him to see how angry you looked right now.
You heard a sigh from him, "You're upset with me."
You took a sigh yourself trying to calm down before answering him. You turned to look at him again, giving him a meek smile for an instant. "I'm not upset with you. I'm just...disappointed. Your invention is amazing, great even, but I don't know how I should feel that it's being used for something I don't agree on." You shook your head. "Never mind that, Hiccup, I trust you. If you think you are doing the right thing, then do it. I won't make you choose something I don't have a choice on, but you need to listen to me when I say that; choose what you want to do, not what someone tells you to do."
He nodded in agreement. "Trust me; this is what I want to do."
You sighed once more and nodded. "I think you're amazing, Hiccup. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. This canon is proof of what you're capable of." You stretched, feeling how serious and tense the conversation has gotten. "I'm going to leave seeing how when I got here, you were pretty busy." You began walking out.
Hiccup followed you out. "Yeah, well, I have been getting really busy lately." You were about to walk away when Hiccup called, "Wait! Are you leaving again already?" You saw a frown form on him.
You slightly gaped at his question and smiled when you processed it, "Don't worry. I have a felling I'll be around for quiet a while."
You could hear a faint sound come from Hiccup as you turned to walk away. "What is that suppose to mean?" Then, the sound of clanking rung out as he continued on his work.
You felt a small headache come to you as you walked away from the forge. It was a rush as if something was telling you to get out of the area as soon as possible. It became more painful when you stood in place trying to regain your senses back.
"Hey, Hiccup," you heard a call from behind you.
You froze immediately upon hearing the voice. It sounded a lot awfully like your voice. What oddly scared you the most was it didn't come from you at all. You held your head slightly and craned your neck to look behind you finding Hiccup talking to a girl. The girl was a younger version of yourself.
"Oh, hey, [Name]. What are you doing here?"
The pain increased and you jerk your head away. You quickly moved away from the forge and finding yourself more calm and pain free. You traveled to the same, enchanted tree.
That pain was caused because I was near my younger self, you thought. Note to self: stay away from any timeline of myself.
You sighed as the pain was completely gone.
~.~.~
You stayed in the same place, trying to stay away from any encounters from your past self. As you stayed, you had time to think to yourself. You couldn't help but piece together the upcoming events. You knew it was about to be the night were Hiccup used his canon on Toothless, but you couldn't help but think what happened to you during the raid.
When you were smaller, you weren't very useful when it came to black smiting (not that you were at any time), so you helped put out the fires with everyone else instead of being with Hiccup. Being in that situation, you two were easily separated, but you remembered Hiccup disappeared after some time. The reason why you knew this was because even when you two were separated, you were still able to see him safe in the forge.
Unfortunately, the attack was too aggressive to ignore and to look for your friend, so you had no choice but to continue your job in taking down the fires. You had no clue about his whereabouts until after.
You heard a distant roar snap out of your thoughts. You didn't realize it was already night time and time for the dragon attack on the village. You didn't know how long it has gone on so you ran to the village in hope you'll make it on time to help Hiccup.
You made it to the village and ran straight for the forge while dodging hurried and panicked vikings run by with their weapons. You felt a sudden headache as you got closer to the forge. Your eyes searched around you, looking. You found the younger version of yourself extinguishing the fires around the forge.
You gripped your head and moved on, trying to ignore the pain. Stay away...stay away... your thoughts reminded you.
You slipped into the forge unnoticed or ignored. Either way you were of no importance at the moment. You looked every where but there was no sign of Hiccup.
Was he here yet?
You looked at an area where the canon would've been stored for later use.
It's not here. Oh, no...
You ran out, calling out Hiccup's name. You pushed through the buzzing crowd, trying to look for him. You spun around, searching every corner, every area, and every hiding place for him.
Think, [Name]. Where would you go to use his weapon?
You abruptly looked up having an idea of a possibility where he might be. On a hill, you saw Hiccup just launched the canon and a set of bolas was released until it caught and spun around its prey. Your eyes widen and gaped slightly.
He really did it. He did the impossible. He caught a night fury.
You knew it was the truth but it was a different story when you could see it for yourself. You couldn't help but smile slightly when you saw Hiccup cheer and look around if anyone saw. Your eyes widen in fear when you saw a monstrous nightmare slowly crawling and glaring towards him. You felt your adrenaline pump through you as you ran in a desperate attempt. You managed to push Hiccup out of the way before the monstrous nightmare had a chance to crush him and possibly impale him.
"Ragna!" he gasped.
You wrapped your arms around him as you two rolled out of harm's way. You ended being on top as you covered him because the dragon blew its hot fire at you two, luckily missing. You forcibly moved Hiccup to side missing the dragon's claw. However, it didn't miss you. It grazed your left arm and left a gash as big as your hand. You cried out in pain. Hiccup called your name again in panic and worry.
You saw the dragon getting ready to fire again. You pushed Hiccup to continue to move. "Run!"
You gripped your arm as you ran with Hiccup. You and Hiccup dodged the fireball that was shot at you. It was getting ready to shoot another one at you and it had the perfect opportunity to end the both of you. You quickly spotted a pillar and pulled Hiccup behind it as he made a surprised shout. The fire felt hot as it sprayed around the pillar just enough for you two not be burned to crisp. It became terrifyingly silent. At the corner of your eye, you saw Hiccup look to his side. You looked the opposite and gasped. The dragon was there cornering you two and getting ready to fire once again.
Just as it was about to fire, someone knocked it away. You saw Stoick punched the dragon repeatedly and blocking its attacks. You were slowly slipping from your conscious as you felt the pain come full force. Your arm stung and your rib cages felt sore. You tried to stay awake as you saw Stoick started overpowering and began winning in the fight. You had finally given up and passed out when you saw the dragon was dragged away into a cage.
