Chapter 10

"Hiccup, are you home?"

"I'm up here, [Name]!"

You followed the voice upstairs into his room. You found him rumbling around his desk trying to gather pieces of paper together.

"Hey, Hiccup," you greeted.

"Oh, hey, [Name], what do you need?" He looked back towards you and gave you a small smile.

"I just came to see if you were alright," you said slowly, "you weren't here when I came here earlier to see if you were okay. No one was here. Your door was wide open. I was worried something happened to you."

"I'm just fine," Hiccup shook his head with a small smile, "You don't need to worry about me." With that, he walked away and out of his room.

Your head felt heavy with guilt as you looked down to the floor.

~.~.~

That flash of light didn't happen like last time during that night. You decided to lay in the tree you woke up at to avoid any conflict with animals. You stared up at the night sky. Why am I here? You thought of the recent places you went. Am I here to watch over Hiccup as a guardian or something? You left the question to be unanswered as your eyelids started getting heavier.

You woke up just in time for sunrise. It was breathtaking. It reminded you of your timeline when you were with Hiccup. Your stomach grumbled slightly, begging for it to be fed. You walked to the direction of Berk.

When you entered, no one really noticed you because they were doing their morning routines. You came across a shop near the decks that was selling fruit and vegetables. You shuffled your pockets for any coins.

"How may I help you, dear?" the woman clerked asked.

"Just two apples, please." I answered.

She asked for the price and you gave her the amount you luckily had. In return, she gave you a cloth bag filled with two fresh apples.

Your kind smile turned into a look of shock when you heard a loud exploding like noise and then shouting nearby. "What was that?" you asked curiously.

"You must be talking about Gobber's shop," the clerk started, "apparently, the blacksmith has Stoick's boy as a new apprentice. I feel sorry for that man."

You scrunched you eyebrows. "Why do you feel sorry?" you asked.

"Hiccup is infamous for a small body  and weak arms. He can't even walk correctly. He's so weak." The clerk shrugged.

You felt your skin crawl and your blood boil. "Hiccup is not weak!" You didn't even get to absorb her reaction because you heard another crash and rushed down to see the commotion.

You walked in the blacksmith's shop looking around for the little brute-headed boy.

"Watch where you're flinging those bolas!" You heard Gobber shout. "Now, I have to get another bucket of water," he paused, "Don't touch anything, you hear?" Then, he left with an empty bucket.

When he was gone, you approached Hiccup, "So, first day on the job?"

Hiccup gasped in surprise, "Ragna!"

"Hello, Hiccup," you greeted with a smile.

"I thought you left," he wondered.

"Nope," you shook your head slightly, "but I am leaving soon."

"Oh," he saddened, "how much longer are you going to be here?"

"I honestly don't know, Hiccup." You shook your head.

"I don't want you to go," his shoulders dropped.

"I have a feeling," you smiled down to him. He looked up to you when you continued, "that I will be back soon."

His smile returned, "Really?"

You echoed, "Really."

"Hiccup, answer me if you're still alive!" You heard Gobber coming back.

"Hiccup, I have to go right now, but I promise I'll be back." For some reason, you didn't want Gobber seeing you, at least not yet.

"Ragna, wait," Hiccup grabbed hold of your hand, "when will I see you again?"

"Hiccup?" Gobber called.

"I promise I'll be back soon, Hiccup." You answered. I made a promise I don't know if i can keep.

"There you are, Hiccup," Gobber sighed, "why weren't you answering me when I called you?"

"I was talking to Ragna," Hiccup beamed.

"Who's Ragna?" Gobber emphasis your fake name as if he has never heard it before.

"She's my friend," Hiccup answered innocently.

"Hiccup," Gobber looked around boy, "there's no one here but you and me."

"She's right--," Hiccup stopped when he found you weren't behind him anymore. He didn't noticed you disappeared outside through the window when Gobber entered the room. I'm sorry, Hiccup.

~.~.~

The day went on and that light didn't consume you like last time. I have a feeling that I'm here for a reason. You thought.

Throughout the whole daylight, you stayed in the forest and looked for anything that will help you to get back to your own timeline. And to the older Hiccup, you thought. It's now sundown and that light still didn't appear. You stayed underneath the tree in hope in finding an answer.

Every single thought in your mind right now screamed The tree is the reason why you're here! You already knew that actually but you wanted to know why. Why were you here? Were you here to take care of Hiccup? If it can bring you here, can it bring you back?

Is Hiccup okay from when I left him with Dagur?

Your thoughts were cut short when you started hearing roars. Dragons...

"Dragon attack!" You heard several voices repeated at the village.

~.~.~

"Hiccup!" You called. Vikings ran past you, either hands filled with weapons or buckets of water. Houses were repeatedly set aflame or washed out. Dragons flew breathing fire and grabbing food supplies. It disgusted you and you would've fled to the forest and hid but the fact Hiccup could be in danger made you determine to be there.

"Look out!" You turned at the last moment to see a fireball heading straight for you. You eyes widen in fear. This was exactly the last thing your parents saw before they died. You covered your face with your arms in a worthless attempt to save yourself but someone yanked you to the side and nearly were burned to death.

"It's not a good time to be spacing out, lassy," the familiar voice warned.

You looked up to the tall man with slight shock, "Sorry, chief."

Stoick's eyes widen in shock to see you. "What are you doing here, lassy?"

You opened your mouth to say something but a nearby roar was coming close. You turned to face the monstrous dragon. The monstrous nightmare roared once more and approached the both of you. Stoick had an ax in his hand. He raised it too late as the dragon lunged. You were more ready as you stepped in front of Stoick with a shield in hand from close by and used it to knock it at the dragon. The shield shattered but it made the dragon dizzy for a moment, enough time for you to kick the dragon at its most sensitive spot (the jaw). You didn't severely hurt it but enough to make it whimper away. You hated hurting the dragons but there wasn't a way to save them at the moment.

You turned back towards Stoick. You would've laughed if it wasn't for the situation you were in. You still kept a mental note of it to something that would cheer you up a little.

"We'll finish talking once this is over. For now, I need to look for Hiccup. Where is he?" you said seriously.

He somewhat regained himself and answered, "He should be at home."

You nodded, "I'm going to make sure nothing happens to him."

You ran off towards the top of the hill where you found the chief's home. Nothing seemed to be happening around it.

"Hiccup?" you called in the slightly quieter building.

"Hiccup!" you called again.

It was silent for both times and you began to worry. You searched every room but there was no sign of him anywhere. There was one place you could find him now. You dashed out of the home, not even bothering with closing the entry door behind you on your way out. You ran as fast as you could to the place where you first found Hiccup. You stopped in the middle of the clearing before looking around and calling for his name.

"Hiccup!" you called. You spotted him in the bushes with his boots peeking out from the bottom. You shook your head when you saw that. You brushed the bush away to have a better view of the boy. He was curled up in a ball. "Hiccup," you called again gently. He looked up when he heard your voice. He had tears running down his face. "I was so worried. I didn't see you at home at all."

"I'm sorry," he sniffled, "I wanted to help so I went outside but I saw one and got scared."

You hugged him tightly. "Why would you do that, Hiccup?"

"I wanted to become a viking."

Your grip on him tightened slightly. You hated the past. A time when you prove yourself by killing another living being. "Hiccup, you don't have to fight a dragon to become a viking." You combed his hair back with your hand. "You just have to be you."

"No one likes me for being me." He said sadly.

"I do, and I'm sure your father does."

He cried into your shoulder. "No, he doesn't."

"Hiccup," you started, but before you could finish, you heard flapping getting closer. You looked up to see the same dragon as the one you fought before was flying straight for you two. "Hiccup, climb that tree and stay up there until I say so."

Hiccup obeyed and stayed sitting on a sturdy branch with his hands gripping the the tree and his legs dangling. It was weird seeing Hiccup with both of his legs intact.

You turned facing the monstrous nightmare. "Leave, please," you warned, "I don't want to hurt you."

The dragon landed and roared. Without warning, it lunged at you. Quickly, you dodged out of the way. While it was down, you had a running start and kicked him. He only moved slightly from the kick but it was enough to knock him down and make him whimper. He didn't move after that. The dragon groaned into silence.

You studied its features. It was still terrifying but it looked weak. The scales looked pale compared to the color it had before and his stomach showed how little he had eaten. The monstrous nightmare looked physically weak.

"Did you kill it?"

You jumped when you heard Hiccup behind you. You didn't expect him to be behind you.

"Hiccup!" you cried, "what did I tell you to do? I told you to stay in that tree."

"Sorry, but did you kill it?"

"No," you shook your head, "it is merely weakened."

You approached the dragon. With each step, the dragon either growled and groaned. It seemed to groaned more as you got closer. You touched the trout to gain his trust. His eyes stared into yours. As soon as he closed his eyes, you saw a flash. A vision of some sort with dragons being eaten by the Red Death who don't follow her orders. You gasped away from the vision. You blinked and found the dragon under your hand still.

You leaned closer to the dragon in comfort, "I know you're in pain, but you'll be in worse pain if you stay here."

The dragon whined and got up slowly.

"Ragna, watch out!"

"Do not worry, Hiccup," you smiled at his direction, "He means us no harm. As a matter of fact, none of them do."

The dragon nudged you as if saying "good-bye" and flew away from the chaos.

"Why did you let it go?" Hiccup asked in curiosity.

"Because it is just like us, living beings trying to survive." You sighed when you saw a confused look come from Hiccup. "You'll understand one day. For now, let's go home." From there, you two went back to the village.

~.~.~

The village was a mess. Homes were ruined, food supplies were emptied, and the people were tired. You recognized the chief giving orders to reorganize everything. You waited until Stoick was done giving orders to greet him. He was pleased to see Hiccup safe with you and took him home. You went back to the tree you woken up at.

I'm not used to fighting the dragons like we used to. Where was I while everything was happening back then? You thought. That's right, I was helping putting out the fires.

You didn't think about it back then but you did ask Hiccup if he was okay. He seemed fine. You still felt bad afterwards because you weren't there. But you were here, now, to make up for it.

I guess I made this part up to Hiccup...I feel more at ease now that he was okay.

Before you knew it, the sun was peeking through the mountains and was blinded by a bright light.

~.~.~

You sighed out of frustration because of your situation. Why am I here? This was the third time you woke up from the bright light.

Let's see...Hiccup was almost seven and eleven when I saw him. There isn't really a pattern yet.

You entertained yourself with your thoughts for a little bit. You walked towards the village in your thoughts.

By the looks of it, it was early morning and everyone was doing their daily routines. You approached what seems to be a newer looking shop. You frowned. Must have been burned down. As you got closer, you looked into a window and saw a boy sharpening a sword. You smiled. At least he's gotten better. You turned around facing away from him but at an angle so you can still see him. You knocked on the wooden frame.

"I'll be there in a minute," he called. You felt your cheeks warm up slightly from his voice. You were used to the child like voice but now it was lower and it had a slight crack to it. He stopped and kinda reorganized himself a bit. "How may I help you?" He hasn't looked up to who he's talking to.

You decided to play a little. "I'm looking for a boy with brown hair. He's a little weak but he's cute," you teased.

Confused, he scrunched his eyebrows and looked up while wiping his hands. "I'm sorry," he asked, a tint of pink showed on his cheeks.

You giggled.

"Did you just call me weak? I'm not weak," his voice cracked terribly.

This made you laugh harder. You tossed your head back in fit of laughter. You turned towards him still laughing.

You heard a gasp. "Ragna!" He came full force with a hug. You returned it happily. You two pulled away and you wiped away any tears that managed to escape from your hard laughter.

"Hello, Hiccup," you smiled.
