Not the only one

Toothless, the Night Fury, looked down at the young dragon before him, whose scales shimmered in the light of the rising sun. He felt a mix of emotions flood through him, from awe and wonder at the sight of such a magnificent creature, to a deep sense of sadness and disbelief. As he looked closer, he realized that this dragon might be one of the last of their kind.

Toothless had spent the last fifteen years searching for any sign of other Night Furies, scouring every inch of the vast world around him. He had flown over mountains and valleys, through forests and oceans, and even to the most far-flung corners of the Earth, but had never found any trace of his kin. And now, as he gazed down at this young dragon, he couldn't help but wonder if the Night Furies had truly gone extinct.

Despite the weight of his thoughts, Toothless felt a glimmer of hope deep within him. Perhaps this dragon was the key to unlocking the mystery of the Night Furies' disappearance, or perhaps there were others out there, waiting to be found. Whatever the case, Toothless knew that he had to protect this dragon at all costs, for it was a precious reminder of what had been lost, and what could still be found.

Hiccup dismounted Raya's dragon, Cutter, and cautiously kept his distance from the Furies alongside Raya. They had just managed to rescue the baby Fury and escape a Dragon Hunter's ship. Toothless, Hiccup's loyal Night Fury, had flown off with the baby to ensure its safety.

After a brief search, they all rendezvoused on one of the sea stacks near Kumandra. They sat down to discuss their next move regarding the baby. They knew they had to take action to protect the little creature from the Dragon Hunters, who would stop at nothing to capture it.

"I just can't believe it." Hiccup said in astonishment. "It's another Night Fury!"

"And a young one at that," Raya commented.

For the past five years, they had witnessed the dragons perform what they called "The New Birth," which was their version of celebrating holidays like Hiccup growing up with Snoggletog or Raya and her family celebrating Christmas. During this time, dragons would fly off, according to Toothless, to go be with their mates and lay eggs in a safe location. Unlike Sisu's kind of dragons, who give birth through eggs in a similar manner. But it seemed the other kind of dragons laid explosive eggs; everyone agreed it was best to let them go for a few days during the holiday season to avoid any potential danger. But apparently Toothless believed Night Furies didn't work on the same schedule since he had taken a few visits there himself and nobody had ever seen Night Furies there before.

All of which means they can tell you how old a dragon is just by looking at it, not saying they're always 100% correct, but they're usually able to get it in the ballpark.

Raya knelt down slowly to get a closer look at the baby Night Fury, keeping a respectful distance. She gazed at him in awe, admiring his shimmering scales and curious eyes. As she took a few tentative steps closer, the baby Night Fury let out a high-pitched shriek and darted behind Toothless, seeking protection. Raya immediately stopped moving and stood still, understanding the baby's fear. She slowly backed away, keeping her eyes on the baby Night Fury until she was a safe distance away.

"It seems like it doesn't like people," Raya commented and stood back up.

"I really don't blame it." Hiccup stated as he knew this dragon was likely tortured or harmed by the Hunters.

"How can we train it if we can't get close to it?" Raya wonders.

Well, before we start calling it "it" the entire time it's with us, maybe we should try and figure out what it is. Hiccup commented and looked to Toothless. "Toothless, is it a boy or a girl?"

Toothless, the black dragon, turned his head toward Hiccup, his rider, before his gaze fell upon the playful Night Fury cub. The little dragon was running around Toothless' front legs; its tiny paws padding against the ground as it darted around with boundless energy. Toothless watched with fascination, trying his best to understand the little one's movements.

The baby Night Fury was so full of life and vitality that it didn't seem to take a second to rest. Toothless, growing a little impatient, decided to intervene. He raised his tail forward, causing the little one to trip and fall. But as the baby fell, Toothless quickly caught it, flipping it around with a flick of his tail. The cub screeched with joy as it landed safely in Toothless's grasp.

Toothless said, "It's a girl!"

"Alright, thanks." Hiccup was happy to have a gender for the baby dragon.

"Okay, how do we go from here?" Raya wonders.

"Well, I've dealt with wild dragons, but never one who's grown up in Dragon Hunter clutches," Hiccup admitted. This was going to be a bit of a challenge. "I mean, she can't be more than a few months old, so it's likely that the hunters found her as an egg or even a young hatchling."

"But if that's the case, where are her parents?" Raya wondered.

"That is a question for another day." Hiccup said, although he was curious about that himself. If this baby is a recent born, it means either the parents lost the egg or the Hunters killed them. "Right now, we need to find a way to get close to her."

"I wonder how much trouble the others are having with the dragons," Raya muttered.

It turned out that the others weren't having as much trouble as she was. It was sort of like herding a flock of sheep when you're transporting a bunch of dragons. They would stay in formation and follow the leader, which in this case was Heather and Windshear. There would occasionally be one or two that would begin to lead away from the pack, which is what they were there for.

Boun and Scorch flew over to the Gronckle who was leading away from the herd. "Hey, hey, stay in line!"

"Nice work there, Boun!" Heather complimented the boy. Then, looking ahead, she saw the kingdom in the distance. "We're almost to Heart, guys."

"Ha-ha!" Tong cried. "I call that a successful dragon raid!" he exclaimed.

"As long as Hiccup and Raya got away," Heather muttered, noticing that there was still no sign of any of them. But she knew better than to worry about them. They'd find a way to escape if they were captured. And she could easily organize a rescue mission if necessary. "Well, boys and girls, welcome to your new home!" She then landed Windshear in the opening of Heart, where they were approached by some of the residents. "People of Heart, meet the new locals."

Tong laughed as he scratched Steel on the chin. "It was a glorious victory."

"Yeah, it was easy," Boun stated as he walked up to Scorch's face, who lowered himself to allow his rider to fall off safely. "I took on like a hundred Hunters. A-a thousand."

Heather looked around and wondered what had happened. There were a few locals with concerned looks on their faces, the ones who weren't greeting the new dragons at least. She also took notice of a few people missing, most notably Chief Benja. She would have figured he would be one of the first to greet them on their return.

"Did something happen?" Heather murmured in confusion. She saw one of the maidens from the castle pass and wondered if she was having a seizure. "Uh, hey...," the maiden stopped and turned to face her. "Where's Chief Benja?"

"Uh...He returned to the castle," the maiden explained and gestured to the castle. "To talk to the Princess of Fang."

Tong and Boun froze when they heard that and looked at the castle. Heather had never met Namaari and didn't know the importance of her being from Fang.

Namaari was sitting in the green room of the castle with Benja and Sisu as well as her siblings. Both of them wanted her to be comfortable so that she could explain what had happened. Benja sat across from her as he was being told everything that had happened from when she landed on Berk and up to escaping the ships.

"It was horrible," Nanaari recalled. "They had hundreds, thousands of their ships. An entire armada and that was just in the dark."

"And all of them were Dragon Hunters?" Sisu asks in concern.

"Dragon Hunters, Trappers, Outcasts, Berserkers, and Berk." Namaari recapped all of them. "They tracked Sharpshot and followed him here. But one thing is for sure, they have enough cages for all of the dragons in Kumandra."

"If this is true, then this could be a sign of war," Pengu told all of his siblings. "Nobody will be safe."

Pranee asked her brother, "What do you suggest we do?"

Pengu told his siblings, "Warn the other dragons. Warn everyone. They will likely think that they either still have the element of surprise, or will believe Namaari will have warned us. It's sad to say, but we either have to find them first, or wait for them to strike."

"Kumandra has already suffered too much," Amba muttered in sorrow. "Is there no way to find a peaceful solution?"

"Respectfully, I have to agree with Pengu, Amba," Namaari interjected. "Drago is responsible for what happened in Fang, Krogan, and for my mother's death. He cannot be reasoned with."

Benja sighed and stood as he considered what they should do. He would need to talk to the other Chiefs of the lands, and they should be arriving soon. The Terror Mail to summon them was sent an hour ago, but that was going in three different directions with three different distances. The Terror's are going to need more time to reach us, so we should expect something within the next few hours. Yet again, there is also an early morning meeting.

"We must inform everyone," Benja knew they weren't going to be able to keep this a secret. "Starting with Hiccup and Raya when they return."

"Chief." One of the guards made his way inside. He approached and gave a salute in respect. "The rescue party has returned. But the Princess and her betrothed have not returned."

Benja now grew concerned at this news and wondered what happened. "Summon the others. Tell them I wish to speak with them," the guard nodded and ran off as Benja looked out to the kingdom in concern. "Where are they?"

Cutter flew upward back to the sea stack and landed near Raya and Hiccup. The dragon then proceeded to open her mouth and drop a pile of fish that she had caught. Raya signed as she picked up one of them; she was too hungry to complain about where the fish came from.

"You really think that this will work?" Raya wonders.

Hiccup came up with the idea of starting from scratch. This is how he managed to bond with a few of the baby dragons who didn't trust him. He grabbed one of the fish from the pile and slowly approached Toothless and the baby Night Fury. The adult dragon allowed Hiccup to approach as he knew what he was thinking. He held out a small fish because he could tell the baby dragon was hungry.

"Hey, there." Hiccup said soothingly as he approached. Raya stayed back and watched, as always amazing her to see. Hiccup then saw the baby dragon kept hiding. "It's okay," he wanted to assure the dragon. "We're friends." He tried to extend his arm out further. "You hungry?"

The little Night Fury walked out from behind Toothless and slowly approached Hiccup. He stayed out offered a smile and waited for her to finally take the fish. When she got close enough, Hiccup noticed she had her teeth out, showing she either couldn't control her retractable teeth like Toothless or just that she saw him as a threat still. When the dragon finally took the bait and took the fish from Hiccup, he slowly reached out and petted her head.

"Ah, how, there, you see? We're all friends here." Hiccup was glad to see he managed to get a little trust from the dragon. "Now, what should we name you?"

That seemed to pique her interest as she stopped biting the fish and looked at Hiccup. It was almost like she understood what he said.

"Raya, you got any ideas?" Hiccup asks.

Raya approached the dragon, appearing hesitant at first, but remained calm as she neared it. Then, she scratched the baby dragon, just like how she would have done to Toothless.

"How about..." Raya was taking this as a big moment. "Yin?"

"Yin?" Hiccup questions. He's not saying it's a bad name, just curious as to why she chose that name. "Why Yin?"

"You know, like Yin and Yang." Raya shrugged and looked at the dragon who screeched. "Seems like she likes it."

Hiccup shrugged and saw the dragon did like it. "Okay." He then tried to pet the dragon, but it seemed like it was getting uncomfortable, and backed away. "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you."

"We've still got a long way to go," Raya said as she also backed away. "Come on, Toothless can take her to Heart and we'll ride Cutter back."

Hiccup looked at Toothless, who seemed to be saddened by the idea of Hiccup no longer riding him. It wasn't like he relied on him anymore, but it was always comforting to know he was there. Hiccup offered a friendly smile and nodded, realizing that Yin needed Toothless more than he did right now.

The rest of the ride home was quiet; there wasn't much to really say after everything. They had flown to Heart and seen all of the dragons that they had rescued wandering about and getting settled in with the help of a few locals. They were happy to see all of this and confused by the lack of any sign of their friends.

"I wonder where they could have gone?" Hiccup wonders.

"Ma'am," one of the guards said as he approached and showed his respect. "Your father wishes for you two to come to the castle immediately."

Raya and Hiccup were a little confused by the urgency. They had never been demanded to be seen before, as Raya had never had a reason to be summoned so urgently. Hiccup was used to being demanded, but it was usually back on Berk after he screwed up.

"We'll be right there." Hiccup nodded and looked to Toothless. "Come on, Bud. I don't like how he sounds."

Toothless nodded as he looked at his back and saw Yin was now lying on his back. She was secure and was able to stay on with her claws that Toothless didn't even seem to notice. Might be thanks to his tough scales.

Nevertheless, the four of them, Cutter seeming tired, wandered off to the stables to get some rest, while the others made their way towards the castle. Tuk Tuk was there to greet them as they walked into the garden; they were shocked to see their friends were there waiting. Pengu, Sisu, and their siblings were also there, making them even more confused and concerned. Not to mention when they spotted Namaari and it seemed like she was hurt, it didn't stop their concerns from growing.

Benja had informed them of everything, and they were waiting to see how Hiccup was going to react. Yin seemed to pick up on the tension in the room and hid underneath some of Toothless' ear flaps to stay hidden. When they had arrived, the couple were excited to say they found proof that other Night Furies could be out there, but now there was almost this sense of dread.

"What's happening?" Hiccup asked.

Benja sighed as he realized he had to do this. "Son...," he approached and grabbed Hiccup by the shoulder. "You need to prepare yourself for what I'm about to tell you..."

XXXXXXXXX

Let's say he didn't take it well.

Hiccup marched out of the gardens, shoving the doors open at full force. He ended up finding some of the Terrible Terrors who were sleeping peacefully just a few moments ago. Hiccup stormed his way down the marble stairs and stomped his way over towards the babbling brook. He tried to take a few deep breaths to calm himself down, but let's just say it didn't work.

Raya ran over to the doorway where Hiccup had stormed off so that she could try and help him. She was frozen by the information that her father had given her father, so she was a few seconds behind Hiccup. Before she could walk over to Hiccup from where she was on the stairs, Hiccup let out a throat-curdling scream as he raised his fist into the air.

His scream was so loud it scared a few of the other Terrors that were lying around. It didn't make them fly away, but it did cause them to raise their heads in concern. Raya sighed as she walked over to him and tried to help calm him down without frustrating him. She had only ever seen Hiccup this angry once, and that was when Krogan hurt her on Fang.

Raya extended her arm towards Hiccup, gently holding his hand in hers. She could feel the warmth of his skin and the slight tremble in his fingers as she squeezed them softly. Her presence seemed to have a soothing effect on him, as his previously rapid breathing gradually slowed down, and he started to relax. The tension in his body seemed to dissolve, and he let out a deep sigh, grateful for Raya's comforting touch.

"Ten years," Hiccup finally managed to say. "It's been ten years since I escaped there." He then looked out at the beauty of Kumandra. "Five years since I finally found this place... and five years since I found you. A place where I can belong." He then became mad, evidenced by the grip placed on Raya's hand. "And now they come to try and take everything we've built."

"Hiccup, I promise you; we'll stop them. Together," Raya stated as she grabbed both his hands. "You know we'll do everything to stop them from taking you. But according to Namaari, they don't even know it's you. We can use that. You can help us. This is our home."

Hiccup nodded as he smiled at her. "And I promise you, I'll fight for it."

As the two lovers leaned in towards each other, their eyes locked in a deep gaze, the world around them disappeared and all that existed was the warmth of their embrace. Their lips met in a tender kiss, sealing their love for each other. Benja, who had been watching from the doorway, smiled as he saw the two of them together. It was clear to him that they were meant to be. They complemented each other in every way and would be the perfect rulers for Kumandra. Benja felt a sense of relief knowing that Heart was going to be in good hands with them at the helm.

Raya broke off the kiss and smiled. "Come on. We gotta go tell the people."

Hiccup nodded and started to watch as Raya walked off. He slowly began to follow when he saw something closing in on him from the air. When he squinted, he could make out it was a Stormcutter that seemed to have...someone riding it? Before Hiccup could question it, before anyone could even react, the Stormcutter flew in grabbed Hiccup by the arms, and flew off into the sky. Luckily, he managed to let out a scream to inform Raya of the recent abduction. But Benja was luckily facing it and had watched the dragon swoop in and kidnap the boy.

"Hiccup!" Benja cried as he ran into the open field.

Raya turned around, wondering what happened, and watched as he was being taken away. "Hiccup!"

When Benja reached his daughter, it seemed that both of them had the exact same idea as they let out a giant whistle. Benja used a three-note whistle, whilst Raya used one long-note whistle. Cutter quickly came in flying and landed aside Raya as she quickly leaped on the back of her dragon and flew to rescue Hiccup.

"Come on, girl, faster!" Raya cried since she wanted to rescue him.

Benja looked to the sky and saw his dragon approaching. His dragon was a Moldruffle that he named Falcor. It had a relatively wide and flat head, adorned with a crown of long, curved horns. It stood on two muscular hind legs, with two shorter, stubby forelegs, each ending in three sharp claws. Its tail ended in a wide paddle-like fin, lined with a row of thin spikes, similar to the Shovelhelm. Unlike most dragons, the digits of its wings each ended in long, hooked talons. The wings and tail fins were also decorated with intricate, wavy patterns.

Benja leaped onto the back of his dragon and pointed to the Stormcutter. "After that dragon, Falcor!"

Falcor growled before taking off and flying after them. Nobody was going to take Hiccup away from them like that.

"Hey! Let me down!" Hiccup cried out.

Hiccup tried to reason with the mysterious stranger who had kidnapped him, but to no avail. He watched as they were taken along on a wild ride until suddenly giving way to a cavern filled with columns of basalt rock. It was slightly cramped by dragons of all kinds, looming in the shadows.

Hiccup was dropped by the Stormcutter as it flew into the darkness, leaving him confused as to what was going on. But when he saw the dragons, he realized he didn't recognize any of them. Through species or recognizable traits. He has seen every dragon in Kumandra, considering he was the one who brought them there. But these were completely different dragons. It was like they were moved to this cavern for a specific reason.

A hissing dragon closed in, sniffing, leering, and growling menacingly. Hiccup extended and lit his telescoping dragon sword, waving a swirl of fire around himself. The dragon paused, intrigued, and then watched hypnotically as Hiccup pacified it with calculated sweeps of the fiery blade.

The warrior watches keenly from the shadows. Several aggressive dragons close in behind Hiccup. Hearing their hisses, he quickly stows the blade, replaces a cartridge in its hilt, then flips it around and sprays a perimeter of Zippleback gas around himself. He clicks the lighter, igniting a flash ring.

The testy dragons recoil. He then reaches through the smoke, offering his open hand. The dragon's re-approach, sniffing him with calmed curiosity. The masked stranger tilted his masked head, curiously. He dismounted from his dragon and approached Hiccup. In response, Hiccup took a few steps back in concern.

"Who are you?" Hiccup wonders.

The warrior rattled his staff at a nearby dragon. In response, the dragon and the surrounding dragons produced flames from their throats, spotlighting Hiccup. The warrior set down his staff and shield, then approached Hiccup, approaching him cautiously and like an animal.

The warrior's hand continued toward Hiccup's face. He recoiled, but the warrior persisted, finding the faint scar on Hiccup's chin, glinting in the firelight. The warrior gasped and retreated a few steps.

"Hiccup?" The voice is surprisingly female.

And shaken from the sound of it. Like she expected it to be someone else.

She then reached up and removed her helmet, showing her face to Hiccup. Under the mask was a woman with auburn hair kept in three separate knotted braids behind her back and has fair skin.

"Could it be? After all these years? How is this possible?"

Hiccup was lost as to what was happening. This woman was about the same age as chief Benja, if you added in the six years he was stone.

"Uh, should I... should I know you?" Hiccup asks.

"No. You were only a babe..."

The warrior slowly looked down at the ground as if she were trying to consider something. Then she looked upward back to Hiccup. Their eyes met, equally wide-eyed and aghast.

"... but a mother never forgets."

(A/N) Yeah, Christmas was the only holiday I've been able to find since Kumandra doesn't exactly have any holidays to go off of from what I could find. If anybody finds anything else about the celebrations of Kumandra, I'd be happy to change the statement.
