See the light

Hiccup was sleeping comfortably when something starts to lick his face.

"Hmm?" Hiccup asks and opens his eyes and is met with a gummy smile from Toothless. "Not now, Toothless." He tells his dragon when he suddenly realizes who he just saw. "Toothless!" He cheers while accidentally waking up Rapunzel and Pascal.

Hiccup got up and started scratching his dragon's neck, happy to see him as Toothless keeps on bouncing around, happy to see Hiccup was okay. "I was so worried about you!"

"Hiccup?" Rapunzel call's and Toothless notices her and goes into a defensive mode and stares the girl down and approaches her threateningly.

"Whoa, whoa, Toothless. It's okay. She's a friend." Hiccup promises the dragon as he calms down. "Yeah, sorry, he gets defensive around others, especially with new places."

"So, this is Toothless?" Rapunzel asks while walking slowly towards the Dragon.

"Rapunzel, Toothless. Toothless, Rapunzel." Hiccup greets them.

Toothless looks at Rapunzel curiosity and starts to sniff her when he notices Pascal on her shoulder. Rapunzel raises her hand out to try and pet Toothless and he spiffs it before placing his nose against her palm, trusting her.

"Aw, you're such a sweetheart." Rapunzel says in a sweet voice and starts petting him as he purrs, loving getting his neck scratch.

Hiccup chuckled at how well the two get along fast when Toothless returns his attention to Hiccup and shows his tail's been broken.

"Don't worry, bud. I can get that fixed when we get to the kingdom." Hiccup promises his dragon when Rapunzel notices the kingdom is close and rushes off and the two follow her.

Rapunzel reaches the bridge and Hiccup notices another wanted poster of himself hanging by the wall and has Toothless destroy it as they keep following Rapunzel.

Rapunzel makes it to the marketplace and takes in everything, but her hair is constantly getting her caught on everything. Hiccup and Toothless pick up all the hair and they know they gotta do something about this.

They spot some kids by a fountain doing their hair and Hiccup whistles them over and they get excited at seeing her hair.

The kids start to fix Rapunzel's hair as Hiccup went out to buy the supplies he will need to fix Toothless' tail later. Luckily, since nobody's ever seen a dragon it didn't take much to convince people that Toothless is just a strange looking horse. That and he kept the dragon out of people's sight as much as he could.

Once he returned to Rapunzel and the kids, he sees her hair all pinned up so it reaches down to her ankles instead of down the street. Hiccup smiles at her look when Pascal looks at him with a smug smile along with Toothless.

"What are you two looking at?" Hiccup asks the reptiles as he walked away from them.

For the rest of the day, Hiccup and Rapunzel went all around the marketplace and the rest of the kingdom where Rapunzel found a painting for the king, queen, and the lost princess. Rapunzel sees the painting of the lost princess and can't help but feel like she knows her.

Hiccup paid for some food when he turns and sees Rapunzel dancing in the street and starts dragging people to start joining in. Rapunzel nods for him to join and Hiccup turns her down when Toothless pushes him using his head and sneaks off.

They all continue to dance as Hiccup and Rapunzel end up in each other's arms.

Hiccup bought her one of the cloths with the sunflower mark of the kingdom.

Rapunzel joined in on some painting later on during the sunset.

Hiccup and her went to a library and he showed her all the places he visited over the years that they didn't even notice that the time has come for the lanterns has come.

Hiccup rents them a boat big enough for him and Rapunzel while Toothless rests by the shore.

"Hey, Toothless, these are for you." Hiccup call's as he tosses the dragon a bag filled with salmon, his favorite fish.

"Where are we going?" Rapunzel asks.

"Well, this is the best day of your life. I figured you should have the best view." Hiccup says as Pascal rests on the boat.

As night falls, they wait for the show to begin and Hiccup notices something wrong.

"You doing okay?" Hiccup asks.

"I'm terrified." Rapunzel tells him. "I've been looking out a window for 18 years, dreaming about what it might be like when those lights rise in the sky. What if it's not everything that I dreamed it would be?"

"It will be." Hiccup promises her while placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"And what if it is? What do I do then?" Rapunzel wonders.

"Sometimes not knowing what comes next is the best thing to imagine." Hiccup says and later on, the show begins and the first lantern is lit and are starting to float around followed by others.

"All those days watching from the windows. All those years outside looking in. All that time never even knowing." She sings in her head and runs around the boat to see the first one and the rest of them. "Just how blind I've been. Now I'm here blinking in the starlight. Now I'm here suddenly I see. Standing here, it's oh so clear. I'm where I'm meant to be. And at last I see the light, and it's like the fog has lifted. And at last I see the light. And it's like the sky is new. And it's warm and real and bright. And the world has somehow shifted." She sings as all all the different shaped lanterns float around. "All at once, everything looks different. Now that I see you." She faces Hiccup who has two of his own lanterns with him for them.

Hiccup hands her one lantern and they let them go together.

"All those days, I've been chasing down one dream." Hiccup starts singing. "All these years, I've been living inside a blur. All that time, never truly seeing things the way they were. Now she's here, shining in the starlight. Now she's here suddenly I know, If she's here it's crystal clear." Hiccup takes her hands in in his. "I'm where I'm meant to be."

"And at last I see the light." The two of them starts singing together.

"And it's like the fog has lifted." Hiccup sings alone.

"And at last I see the light." They sing together.

"And it's like the sky is new." Rapunzel sings alone.

"And it's warm and real and bright." They sing in sync. "And the world has somehow shifted. All at once, everything is different. Now that I see you." The two move in closer and Pascal turns red and covered his eyes. "Now that I see you."

Hiccup moves some loose hair of hers out of her face and the move in close to where they almost touch.

Hiccup doesn't believe what's about to happen. Maybe it was fate or destiny that the bola shot him down.

Rapunzel's heart elevates to levels she didn't know were possible as she and Hiccup lean in and kiss.

The two just stay like that as the lanterns continue to float around and Hiccup breaks off and smiles at Rapunzel.

"Wow." Hiccup says, that being his first kiss.

"Yeah...Wow." Rapunzel agrees when Hiccup looks over towards the shore and sees...his father?

Rapunzel notices him starting to tense up and looks where he's facing. "Is everything okay?"

"Uh..."
