Mother knows Best

In a tower hidden from the world, a chameleon named Pascal ran outside and is hiding behind some plants and blends into the pots.

The window opens and a extremely long haired blonde haired girl wearing a pink dress and no shoes named Rapunzel is looking for the chameleon and noticed him while moving her hair behind her ear.

"Hmm...well, I guess Pascal's not hiding out here." Rapunzel says and walks back inside playfully.

Pascal laughs, believing he fooled her when hair gets wrapped around his tail and he's lifted into the air as he comes face to face with Rapunzel.

"Gotcha!" Rapunzel says as she appears above the doorway and Pascal shrieks before calming down as Rapunzel lowers him down. "That's 22 for me. How about 23 out of 45?"

Pascal looks to her annoyed.

"Okay, well, what do you want to do?" Rapunzel asks him while taking a seat on the landing.

Pascal squeals and points his tail to the outside.

"Yeah." Rapunzel says as she grabs him by the tail. "I don't think so. I like it in here, and so do you." She places him on her lap as they sit on the ledge with him on her lap.

Pascal sticks his tongue out at her, disagreeing.

"Oh, come on, Pascal. It's no so bad in there." Rapunzel says as she heads back inside with her hair dragging along.

She uses her hair to get to the top of the tower and opens the top to get some light in the dark tower.

"Seven a.m., the usual morning lineup." She starts singing while beginning to sweep. "Start on the chores and sweep 'till the floor's all clean." As she sweeps, Pascal uses a dustpan but gets swept as well. "Polish and wax, do laundry, and mop and shine up. Sweep again, and by then it's like 7:15." She sings as she does exactly as she talks about.

"And so I'll read a book. Or maybe two or three." She goes on and grabs some books off her shelves. "I'll add a few new paintings to my gallery." She sings as she now paints the walls. "I'll play guitar and knit. And cook and basically, just wonder when will my life begin?"

She then sees a empty space behind the mirror on the wall surrounded by curtains and uses that for a new spot to paint.

"Then after lunch, it's puzzles and darts and baking. Paper Mache, a bit of ballet and chess." She sings as she's dancing and gets wrapped up in her own hair and tripped over it. "Pottery and ventriloquy, candle making." And she uses Pascal as a ventriloquist dummy.

"Then I'll stretch, maybe sketch, take a climb." She sings, using her own hair to climb in the middle of the room. "Sew a dress!" Pascal was wearing a dress matching Rapunzel's as he's angry. "And I'll reread the books if I have time to spare. I'll paint the walls some more, I'm sure there's room somewhere. And then I'll brush and brush, and brush and brush my hair. Stuck in the same place I've always been." She sings and spends some time brushing all of her hair.

"And I'll keep wondering and wondering, and wondering, and wondering when will my life begin?" She wonders as she throws her hair all around herself.

She then steps out onto the balcony and looks out into the setting sun.

"Tomorrow night, the lights will appear. Just like they do on my birthday each year. What is it like out there where they glow?" She wonders and looks to the picture of the nights. "Now that I'm older, Mother might just...let me go." She finishes singing and finishes her painting of the said lights and forest along with herself watching them.

It has been two years since Hiccup and Toothless left Berk and they've been traveling everywhere.

They've made a few friends over that time, but could never stay in one place, and Hiccup even grew some strength from the scrawny bone he once was.

The sad thing though is everywhere they go, the people sooner or later hear about what Hiccup being a traitor back home and chase him off their island.

Right now, Hiccup just woke up and saw his dragon eating some of last nights catch of fish.

"Well, bud, this is the beginning of another day of our new lives." Hiccup told his dragon who looked happy, as he's always been since he enjoys flying just as much as Hiccup does.

"Let's keep going south, bud. See what else is out there." Hiccup tells him as he mounts the dragon and take to the sky. "And hope the people don't kill dragons out there." He says and the two take off into the sky.

The two flew further outside the archipelago and see new islands they've never seen.

Hiccup was about to say something about how it's amazing to Toothless, but just then an arrow flew past them.

"What the heck was that?" asked Hiccup in a panic.

Toothless screeched as a warning when Hiccup sees a bola headed towards them.

The Night Fury tried to dodge it, but it was too late as the bola hit them, wrapping around Toothless' wings and tail, and throwing Hiccup off his saddle, causing the two to start falling.

"Toothless!" Hiccup screamed in horror as they neared the ground.

Toothless heard his rider's scream and tried to reach Hiccup, and the former Viking wrapped one arm around the dragon's neck.

Hiccup saw they were falling towards some trees and held onto Toothless tighter.

Hiccup and Toothless closed their eyes, readying themselves for impact. They hit a couple of trees, but unfortunately, Hiccup hit his head on one tree, knocking him unconscious, which caused him to lose his grip on Toothless who kept going.

Back in the tower, Rapunzel was packing everything away for her mother's arrival.

"This is it! I'm finally going to do it, I'm going to ask her, Pascal." Rapunzel tells the chameleon.

"Rapunzel!" Gothel, Rapunzel's mother, called for her. "Let down your hair."

"It's time." Rapunzel says as she places Pascal behind the curtains. "Don't let her see you."

Rapunzel then places her hair on a hook on the outside of the window and uses it to pull her mother up the tower.

"Hi. Welcome home, mother." Rapunzel greets her.

Gothel exclaims and enters the tower. "Rapunzel, how you manage to do that every single day without fail. It looks absolutely exhausting, darling."

"Oh, it's nothing." Rapunzel promises.

"Then I don't know why it takes so long." Gothel says and laughs. "Oh, darling, I'm lust teasing."

Rapunzel chuckles nervously and tries to rally up the courage to ask her. "So, mother, as you know, tomorrow is a very big day-"

"Rapunzel, look in that mirror." Gothel interrupts her and looks at herself in the mirror. "I see a strong, confident, beautiful young lady. Oh, look, you're here, too." She says and burst out laughing. "I'm just teasing. Stop taking everything so seriously."

"Okay. So, tomorrow, mother, as I was saying-"

"Rapunzel, mother's feeling a little run down. Would you sing for me, dear? Then we'll talk." Gothel says and Rapunzel races over to get her chair, footstool and brush and quickly gets to singing the moment she sits down.

"Flower-Gleam-And-Glow, Let-Your-Power-Shine. Make-The-Clock-Reverse, Bring-Back-What-Once-Was-Mine. Heal-What-Has-Been-Hurt, Change-The-Fate's-Design. Save-What-Has-Been-Lost, Bring-Back-What-Once-Was-Mine. What-Once-Was-Mine." Rapunzel sang rapidly fast as her hair glowed and started to make Gothel young again, angering her at her fast passing.

"So, mother, earlier I was saying tomorrow is a big day, and you didn't really respond. So, I'm just going to tell you, it's my birthday!" Rapunzel says excited.

"No, no, no. Can't be, I distinctly remember. Your birthday was last year." Gothel reminds her.

"That's the funny thing about birthdays. They're kind of an annual thing." Rapunzel informed her and sat down on the stool. "Mother, I'm turning 18, and I wanted to ask...what I really want for this birthday, well, what I've wanted for a few birthdays." She mumbled the last bit to herself.

"Rapunzel, please, stop with the mumbling. You know I hate the the mumbling." Gothel tells her. "It's very annoying. I'm just teasing. You're adorable. I love you so much, darling." She then gets up and walks away.

Pascal squeals, getting Rapunzel's attention and he's encouraging her to keep going.

"I want to see the floating lights!" Rapunzel finally says.

Gothel chuckles and turns to Rapunzel. "What?"

"I was hoping you would take me to see the floating lights." Rapunzel explains and shakes her the painting.

"Oh! You mean the stars." Gothel says.

"That's the thing." Rapunzel says and opens a window to reveal a painting of stars. "I've charted stars, and they're always constant. But these, they appear every year on my birthday, mother. Only on my birthday. And I can't help but feel like they're meant for me. I need to see them, mother. And not just from my window, in person. I have to know what they are."

Gothel just strolls over to the big window with a smile on her face. "You want to go outside? Rapunzel..." she closes the window and spins Rapunzel around. "Look at you, as fragile as a flower. Still a little sapling, just a sprout. You know why we stay up in this tower."

"I know, but..." Rapunzel tries to continue, but Gothel continues to sing

"That's right, to keep you safe and sound, dear." She sings and draws her hands through her hair. "Guess I always knew this day was coming." She's started to go around and closing all the windows. "Knew that soon you'd want to leave the nest." She starts climbing up the stairs and Rapunzel follows her around. "Soon, but not yet."

"But-"

"Shh!

"Trust me, pet. Mother knows best." Gothel promises and closes the rest of the windows, cutting off all the light to the tower.

Rapunzel Lights a candle to see around.

"Mother knows best. Listen to your mother. It's a scary world out there!" Gothel says and Rapunzel shines a light on her just to be scared when her mother has a scary look on her face.

"Mother knows best." She starts yanking Rapunzel's hair and she tries to fight back but falls into a spotlight where Gothel caught her. "One way or another. Something will go wrong, I swear."

"Ruffians, thugs, poison ivy, quicksand." Gothel lists as she has hand puppets of each of them. "Cannibals and snakes. The plague." She lights up a green lantern.

"No!" Rapunzel cries.

"Yes!" Gothel says and turns off the light again.

Rapunzel looks around, trying to see.

"Also large bugs." Gothel continues and uses a mop to push her to the ground where she drew a man with sharp teeth. "Men with pointy teeth, and Stop! No more, you'll just upset me!"

Rapunzel hides inside her own hair lighting up a Lantern.

"Mother's right here." Gothel sings and pulls Rapunzel close. "Mother will protect you. Darling, here's what I suggest." Rapunzel goes to hug her and sees she's a manikin.

She turns to the stairs that are lightning up by candles. "Skip the drama. Stay with mama. Mama knows best." She then uses her cloak to take out the lights. "Mother knows best."

Rapunzel starts lighting the candles again whilst Gothel is putting them out again.

"Take it from your mumsy. On your own, you won't survive." Gothel says and Rapunzel appears in front of the mirror. "Sloppy, underdressed." She shows Rapunzel her feet as she doesn't ware shoes.

"Immature, clumsy. Please, they'll eat you up alive." Gothel states as Rapunzel tries hiding her feet but then is tripped up by her hairline.

"Gullible, naïve. Positively grubby. Ditzy and a bit, well, hmm vague. Plus, I believe. Gettin' kinda chubby. I'm just saying 'cause I wuv you. Mother understands. Mother's here to help you. All I have is one request." The lights come back on and Rapunzel finds her mother and runs to hug her.

"Rapunzel?"

"Yes?"

"Don't ever ask to leave this tower again." Gothel warns her.

"Yes, Mother." Rapunzel understands.

"I love you very much, dear."

"I love you more."

"I love you most. Don't forget it. You'll regret it. Mother knows best." Gothel says and gets ready to head out again.

"I'll be here." Rapunzel promises as she lets her mother down and watches the sky.

The first thing Hiccup could see when he opened his eyes was Toothless is missing.

As Hiccup starts to get up, he looks around and doesn't see Toothless anywhere nearby.

"Toothless?!" Hiccup call's as he feels his head and could tell he has a bump formed from hitting the trees and the fall. "Could've been worse." He supposed since he did fall a long way down and only gained a few bruises.

He then leaned against a mountain side but ended up going through the leaves and finds a small cave hidden by the vines.

Thinking Toothless might be hiding here, Hiccup goes in further just to exit inside a hidden area and finds a giant tower right next to a waterfall.

Believing it's abandoned, and knowing he should really check himself out for any wounds in a safe place, he uses his dagger he got during his travels to climb up the cracks of the rocks that make up the tower and climbs through the window before lying against the wall for a second to catch his breath.

Getting back up, he looks around the room and sees almost every inch of the place is drawn amazingly. But his amazement was immediately cut short when he got hit in the head by a frying pan and gets knocked unconscious again.

Rapunzel stands behind Hiccup as he drops to the ground unconscious and shrieks before hiding behind a manikin and approaches the unconscious man. She taps the back of his head with the frying pan and sees he's unconscious before turning his head.

Rapunzel looks over to Pascal whos looking at a drawing of the man her mother drew earlier. The drawing that was quickly made and showed men had sharp teeth. She uses the other end of the pan and opened his mouth and sees normal teeth.

"Huh." Rapunzel comments and pushes some of the loose hair out of his face and sees his. To her, he looks completely normal, a bit on the scrawny side but nothing very threatening. Her second comment is that he was really cute looking.

Hiccup suddenly wakes up and Rapunzel reacts by hitting him with the pan again, knocking him unconscious once more.
