Bringing back what once was mine
Valka had been packing her things and was getting ready to go with Rapunzel and Hiccup to Corona.
"Mom, you'd never believe it!" Hiccup said excitedly as he crossed the room, a wooden tray in hand. "Where Corona used to make weapons, they now also build saddles, wing slings..." Hiccup reached into a basket of fish, taking some out and putting them on the tray. "We even fix dragon teeth!"
"Hiccup has made Corona an impregnable kingdom with a powerful arsenal for those who dare attack." Rapunzel agreed as she batted Toothless' head when she caught the dragon trying to snag fish out of the basket.
Toothless just looked at her innocently, obviously in a way of saying, I didn't do that. Pascal was resting on Toothless' head and even smacked him with his tail, causing Toothless to shake him off. Rapunzel laughed and turned to the two Haddocks and was happy for Hiccup to finally have one member of his family back that accepted him.
Valka attempted to carry the tray, but she stumbled over a very misfortunate placed stone and lost her balance for a few moments. The plate tipped and the fish dumped onto the floor.
"This was delicious, Ms. Haddock," Rapunzel tells Valka with a smile, regarding the food she cooked.
Valka laughed nervously, and the two turned to look at her. "Thank you..." She sighed and remembered her time here alone. "I'm a little out of practice."
"Well, I know my parents would love to taste this," Rapunzel promises.
"Are you sure that they are going to be okay with this?" Valka wonders, feeling a stranger with an army of dragons might be met with hostility.
"They would never object, they see the world of Hiccup after everything he's done for the kingdom," Rapunzel promises her, willing to do anything to help Hiccup to get his mother.
As they were getting ready to go, they noticed their dragons began to act strange. Shaking their heads and snarling at the skies and to the opening of the cave.
"Serenity?" Rapunzel asks, trying to figure out what's happening.
"Toothless?" Hiccup asks as they notice something else.
All of the dragons began flying off and making their way out of the sanctuary into the opening. But they then heard a dozen dragons crying in fear outside and knew something was wrong.
Valka shoved past her family, raced outside the mouth of the cave, and ran to the edge of the cliffside. Rapunzel and Hiccup followed her closely, and they skidded to an abrupt stop as soon as they saw what was happening.
A fleet of ships surrounded the ice structure, bigger than any fleet they have ever seen before in her life. Bigger than the Berserker's fleet. Bigger than Corona's fleet.
They immediately knew that all of this was Drago's fleet coming for them. They wondered how he found them, but then figured he must've tracked them from when they escaped.
"Oh, no..." Valka said in worry, feeling this is her fault for not taking precautions.
Rapunzel knocked her fist into her palm, narrowing her eyes at the fleet of ships before her. "We can take 'em," she said determinedly and raced back to her dragon. "Come on!"
Hiccup and Valka were shocked at her as she was already willing to go in and fight Drago.
"Your wife is a magnet for danger, isn't she?" Valka asked, feeling Rapunzel does this a lot.
Hiccup shrugged and was already used to her need to run into danger. "You get used to it."
They then raced off and made their way inside to get their dragons and take Drago's army down.
"Whatever comes, keep hitting the mountain! We need to draw the Alpha out!" Drago shouted to his men.
Catapults were fired, boulders flying through the air and smashing against the ice cave.
"Ready the traps!" Drago shouted using the same commanding voice.
Metal contraptions like bear traps littered the white ground. Trappers and soldiers gathered around them, pulling cranks and lowering chains. A screech filled the air when Toothless came flying in, blasted the traps, and set the dragons free, angering Drago.
Valka and Rapunzel were flying through the air and watched as Hiccup was taking down the armies in seconds with the help of Toothless.
Valka glanced over her shoulder at Rapunzel, and then shifted her gaze towards the dragons. "Rapunzel, take out the catapults if you can!"
Rapunzel nodded, quickly flying off and using Serenity to blast the catapults and the hunters using her amber. But there were more traps and more catapults. More rocks flew through the air, slamming against the ice.
A large icicle fell straight through the air, cut off the ice spike structure from catapult ammo. It fell down, straight towards Rapunzel before Toothless flew in and blasted it. Rapunzel shielded herself when the small chunks of ice came down and watched Toothless fly beside her.
"Where did your mother go?" Rapunzel asked, looking around for her.
Hiccup was looking above them and couldn't believe his eyes. "I think I found her."
Rapunzel looked to where he was looking Valka stood on top of Cloudjumper, her bullhook raised over her head, her mask once again covering her face. They then watched as the Alpha smashed through the remainder of the ice cave, roaring all the while.
"Yep, now we know where you got your dramatic flair." Rapunzel rolled her eyes at the dramatic entrance she went with.
Hiccup just shrugged at it. "I thought it was my dad."
"The Alpha!" Drago cheered to see that his plan had worked. "Now we have a fight!"
They watched as the Alpha froze Drago's soldiers, and some traps as well. Zipplebacks attacked, rolling like balls of fire into the traps and causing the hunters to flee. Nadder's were flying around and shooting spines around the traps and towards the hunters.
"Show them what you got, bud!" Hiccup instructed Toothless as they flew in low.
The Night Fury flew around and fired a plasma blast at the remaining chains that Valka and Rapunzel didn't hit, and the trap exploded into purple fire.
The Zippleback that had once been caught shot back into the sky, roaring happily, unharmed and free. But as they reloaded, Valka was then shot down by Drago's men and landed near him.
"I've waited a long time for this," Drago snarled.
"You cannot take our dragons!" Valka said, swinging her bullhook, authority burning through her slightly muffled voice. Drago blocked all of her attacks that she swung his way. "They are controlled by the Alpha!"
"Then it's a good thing I brought a challenger," Drago hissed, pushing against Valka's staff.
Drago then screeched into the air, confusing everyone as they watched what was happening. The timing was perfect. As if on cue, a second dragon rose out of the water, large, terrifying, horrendous...Another Bewilderbeast coming out of the waters.
"Come on!" Drago shouted at his Alpha. His attention had been drawn away from Valka easily, as soon as the dragon had risen out of the water. "Take down the Alpha!"
"No!" Valka shouted.
She swung her staff, hitting the back of Drago's head. The man spun around again instantly, his bullhook at the ready to defend himself.
Drago tripped her and pried off her helmet. Now that Drago could see her face, she was filled with dread. Valka's eyes, so full of regret and fear and hopelessness...
"No!" Hiccup cried as he flew in and Toothless blasted Drago just enough to push him away. He then landed in front of Valka as Toothless freed Cloudjumper. "Mom, think you can stop them?"
"I can try. Come, Couldjumper." Valka says and leaves to stop them.
Hiccup took a step forward, ready to make his plea to try and stop this war. "All of this loss," he said, gesturing to the battle raging around them, "and for what? To become unstoppable? To rule the world?"
Drago looked upwards and shrugged as if the idea were what he had been thinking the entire time.
"Dragons, they are...kind, amazing creatures that can bring people together." Hiccup tried to plead his case to him.
Drago barked a loud at that statement. "HA! Or tear them apart," he said darkly, reaching for his left arm with his right one. He gripped his forearm and pulled his arm clean off. He hooked his arm back to his stump and approached Hiccup slowly and circled him. "You see, I know what it is like...to live in fear."
Valka tried to stop the fight between the two as they fought one another with their tusks. But Valka couldn't fight or stop them as the two fought one another until Drago's Bewilderbeast got the upper hand
What more could they do? It all happened so suddenly. Drago's Alpha pulled back, lurched forward, and pushed it aside burying his tusks into the other Alpha's stomach.
Rapunzel gasped in shock as she covered her mouth. Valka froze in fear and didn't know what they were going to do now.
"I saw my village burnt," Drago went on, not even phased by the idea that his Bewilderbeast won. "My family, taken. But even as a boy...left with nothing...I vowed to rise high above the fear of dragons and liberate the people of this world."
"Then why a dragon army?" Hiccup questions.
"Well, you need dragons to conquer dragons." Drago replied to his question.
"Or maybe you need dragons to conquer people." Hiccup took another step forward, his eyes as cold as ice after what he just witnessed. "To control those who follow you, and to get rid of those who won't."
"Clever boy," Drago said, his comment made under his breath yet intentionally loud enough for Hiccup to hear. But he didn't seem fazed by anything Hiccup was saying.
"The world wants peace," Hiccup said, his attention refocused on Drago, "and we have the answer back at Corona. Just let me show you."
"No!" Drago shot back. "Let me show you!"
Drago then repeated his screech and spun his staff in the air, getting Rapunzel and Valka's attention from the skies. The Bewilderbeast rose behind them, its body towering. Rapunzel knew that she needed to act now as she flew in and wrapped the staff in his arms using her hair.
Drago however had a secondary weapon, in the form of a sword. Hiccup realized what he was going to do and ran in to try and stop him, but then he was stopped when he saw Toothless shaking and saw the Bewilderbeast humming.
"What's happening?" Hiccup asked Toothless.
Drago then had the opportunity to slice her hair, causing Rapunzel to gasp and look at the hair now reached to her knees and started to turn raven black.
"No dragon can resist the Alpha's command," Drago said as he looked back to Hiccup, Rapunzel was currently distraught at the idea her hair and powers were gone. "So, he who controls the Alpha...controls them all." He continued to point his bullhook, right at Toothless.
Toothless then started to be controlled and looked at Hiccup, approaching him like a predator ready to tackle its prey.
"What did he just tell you?" Hiccup asked as he backed away.
Toothless didn't stop as his eyes turned to slits and he approached Hiccup. With every step, Hiccup noticed he was approaching a wall of ice with no way around it.
"Toothless!" Hiccup pleaded. "Come on! What's the matter with you!?" Toothless only snarled back. "No, no, no, come on, what are you doing? Knock it off! Stop! Snap out of it!"
He then started to warm up to fire a plasma blast, causing Hiccup to see that Toothless wasn't listening anymore and he had nowhere to go. Before anyone could react, Toothless fired, causing everyone to look in the direction as smoke filled the air.
"No," Rapunzel whispered as she ran over to her love.
Valka gasps at the sight of him before leaving Cloudjumper to check on her son.
When they slid over, Rapunzel grabbed the ice on top of him and pushed it off. "Hiccup!" She grabbed his head to have him face her. "Please be okay!"
Valka pressed her ear against Hiccup's chest while Rapunzel was pleading that he was okay over and over again. He couldn't die here. He was too strong. He couldn't be taken down like this...he just couldn't.
But then...Terrifyingly enough...Valka shut her eyes with a small whimper. A tear rolled down her cheek, and she lifted her head, opening her eyes once again to gaze sadly at Rapunzel.
"No!" Rapunzel denied the fact he was gone and pushed her away. "I can still save him!"
"Rapunzel..." Valka didn't know what she could do as she held him.
"Come on, Hiccup. Stay with me. Open your eyes. Look at me. I'm right here." Rapunzel pleaded with him, placing his hand on her head. "Flower, gleam and glow. Let your power shine..." she tried to sing, but she could tell, once it was cut, all the magic was gone. But it wasn't going to stop her from trying. "Make the clock reverse. Bring...back..."
Rapunzel then dropped down into tears while Pascal watched from the sides and was just as upset. Toothless then finally began to wake up and then saw what he had done. He walks up to them and smells Hiccup's hand, not knowing what he did.
"No! Get away from him!" Rapunzel pushes his dragon away as Toothless looks sorry for what he did. "Go on! Getaway!" She tells Toothless who runs off in sadness. "Leave!"
"You know it's not his fault," Valka tells her as she feels just as sad to have just lost her son. As they mourn, the Bewilderbeast starts taking control of all of their dragons. "Good dragons under the control of bad people...do bad things,"
As they started to leave, Drago noticed that Toothless can't fly on his own. The dragon tried to fly a few times while under the Bewilderbeast's influence but ended up crashing. Dragon forces the dragon down and then controls him himself.
"Come on! Gather the men and meet me at Corona!" Drago says and they're concerned about how powerful he'll become if he reaches the kingdom.
Rapunzel saw they had lost and held Hiccup as Drago and his entire army flew away to attack her home. Crying, she held her love and wished she could have done something.
"Flower, gleam and glow. Let your power shine." She starts singing and was trying to at least help herself as there was nothing her hair could do now. "Make the clock reverse. Bring back what once was mine...Heal what has been hurt. Change the fate's what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine...what once was mine..."
A tear then fell off her cheek and found its way down onto Hiccup.
