Give Me One Reason
~Millard's POV~
"Will they be able to remember this?" Jake asked. I was to distracted by Emily's last comment before she fainted to answer him. "I hate you!" She hates me. The definition of hate means to kill....she wants me dead. The most talented girl in the world wants me dead.
"Huh?" I said to Jake. Georgina rolled her eyes at me and hopped over.
"No, dingus!" She said to Jake. "It won't totally erase their memories, if they're peculiar. That memory-erase stuff only works on normals. They'll only be out for, oh, about 10 hours!" She said. She was obviously proud of what she had done to the other peculiars.
"So how are we supposed to pack their bodies around for that long?" Emma asked.
"Simple." Hugh responded. He was holding up four car keys and twirling them around his finger. I saw where he was going with this. Use their cars to transport them to the loop entrance.
"How do we know they won't wake up on the way? Or, better yet, what if we get pulled over. How do we explain to an officer why we have eight teenagers passed out in three cars?" Fiona asked, glaring at Hugh.
"Fi, this is the best plan we've got." Emma said. "Might as well go with it." Fiona huffed and put her arms over her burgeoning stomach.
"Okay then, Emma, Jake, Mill, catch!" He said. He threw them two of the car keys, which they both caught. The keys he threw me fell out of my hand as I tried to catch them."Wynn, drag them out." He said. Bronwyn shrugged and took sixteen feet in her large hands and dragged them out the door.
We then packed the teenagers in pairs of twos in the back of the seats and drapped blankets that were in their fort across their bodies, to try and conceal them. I hopped into an old, golden, beaten up Nissan that had the unconscious figures of Natalie and TJ in the back, followed by Bronwyn, who was in the passenger seat. Before we left I quickly applied a tiny bit more make-up, just to be on the safe side. I then started the engine of someone's car, and left for the loop.
~Time Skip, since I'm a lazy Bitch~
"Millard, how wrong does this seem?" Bronwyn asked. I didn't look at her, only keeping my eyes on the road.
"Wrong." I replied simply.
"I'm sorry about what Emily said to you." She said.
"It's not your fault, Bronwyn." I said. "I don't even blame her. We are the ones who kidnapped her."
"You like her, don't you Mill?" She said. I blushed a bit.
"It's okay if you do." She replied. "I mean, she is peculiar. Just a possible threat." I gave a small smile at this.
"Anyone you like, Wynnie?" I asked. Bronwyn then blushed profoundly as I laughed causing her to smack me.
"Who?" I asked.
"It's none of your business!" She responded.
Just before I could respond, we heard some moaning from the back.
"Millard!" Bronwyn almost yelled. "They're waking up!"
I could feel my face pale (even though know could see it) as Bronwyn continued to freak out.
"I thought the feather can last up to 10 hours!" She said.
"They're a stronger breed of peculiar, Wyn." I said. "It wouldn't have the same effects on them as it does us!"
"What the fuck are you people talking about?"
Bronwyn turned around in horror to see the very awake face of TJ Carter.
"You're up." I said nervously, keeping my eyes on the road.
"What the hell have you done to us?" He said.
"TJ, I swear, we aren't going to hurt any of you. We're just bringing you to people who can better explain your situation." Bronwyn said.
"What's that mean?" A female voice asked. Natalie was awake as well.
"Just please don't attack us!" Bronwyn pleaded.
"Then explain!" Natalie demanded. Bronwyn gulped and backed away. I guess I was the one to do this.
"You can change your appearance, correct?" I asked Natalie.
"Yes." She said.
"And TJ, you can turn into any animal?" TJ said something undignified under his breath, which I took as a yes.
"Those are your peculiar abilities or peculiarities." I said. "Peculiars are individuals, like you two, Bronwyn, and myself, who have unnatural abilities. We normally live in small groups with an ymbryne to watch over us."
"An ymbryne is a woman who can turn into a bird, and can stop time, creating loops for us. Your paternal grandmothers are ymbrynes." I said.
"Wait a second!" TJ said. "My paternal grandmother is dead!"
"No she's not!" I replied.
"This is crazy!" TJ complained.
"Where's Emily, Luke, Charlie, Max, Percy, and Tori?" Natalie asked.
"Yeah, where's our friends?" TJ asked.
"Just calm down!" Bronwyn said.
"Not when we don't know where my brother, cousins, and friends are!" Natalie responded.
"You know what," I said. I quickly searched for a place to stop off the road. I quickly located one and pulled off there, parking the car. "Let's have everyone explain it to everyone." I then stepped out of the car, waiting for my friends to arrive.
~Emily's POV~
"What's Millard doing?" I heard the voice of Emma Bloom ask whoever else occupied the car.
I was laying across the backseat of a car when I woke up next to Max. I decided it was best to stay quiet and wait until the car stopped until I made my move to attack, hushing Max when he woke up, him understanding.
"I don't know. Let's go and see." Another voice said. I've never heard this voice. It sounds Irish and feminine.
The car then pulled off to the side and parked, Emma and whoever else getting out. Max and I immediately sat up, tugging the blanket off and stretching.
"What the hell is going on?!" Max asked.
"The short girl put some sort of spell on us and knocked us out." I explained. "They must have put us in some car and are planning on taking us somewhere." I said.
"This isn't just some car, Em." He said. "Look."
I looked around the car. An Englewood High parking pass. A red flower air freshener. Two green die. Charlie's lucky hula girl!
"Those motherfuckers stole my car!" I said. Max immediately began laughing.
"Max?!" I said.
"Sorry, Em, but you never say 'fuck' let alone 'motherfuckers'." He said. I couldn't help but laugh. I don't curse that bad.
I then heard shouting from outside and slowly looked out. I saw our kidnappers standing around and yelling at each other, Luke's, Victoria's, and TJ's cars all parked around them. I was mad that our cars had been stolen, but something else caught my eye and made me livid.
TJ and Natalie standing outside.
I opened the door and walked outside, straight over to the two idiots who couldn't play it cool.
"Please do not tell me you two did not just wake up and got caught?!" I yelled at them. They both just smiled sheepishly at me and shrugged.
"You idiots!" I yelled, grabbing at my hair. "I can not believe you two don't have the self consciousness to stay quiet when in possible life threatening situations!"
"Em, what's going on?" Charlie asked as he came out of Victoria's car, followed by Percy. Luke and Victoria also emerged from TJ's car, quickly making their way to us.
"How are you all up?!" The short girl screamed.
"Georgina, you said it yourself, they're stronger than most peculiars." Millard said. I gave Millard a sour look before turning to my friends.
"Is everyone okay?" I asked, trying to calm down.
"Well, other than being drugged and kidnapped, I'm doing really great, although I am a bit thirsty. What about you, Em?" Percy said. I rolled my eyes at Percy's sarcastic comment and turned to our kidnappers.
"What the hell is wrong with you people?!" I yelled. "You show up out of the blue, after several weeks of being away, taking care of your foster mother, then you show up at our secret hideout, tell us we're dangerous, and try to force us to see some sort of immbrinee thing. Then, when we deny you, you drug and kidnap us, and steal our cars, more importantly MY CAR!!" I screamed.
"Em, come here." Victoria said, grabbing onto my shoulders. She then led me away from the psychopaths and into the interior of my car.
"Why did you kidnap us?" Luke said, taking my role as leader.
"Listen," Millard replied. "We do not have any intention of hurting any of you. We just want you to understand that this is for your and our own good."
"What do you want with us then?" Charlie asked.
"Your grandmothers are ymbrynes." He said.
"Oh god, enough with the grandma shit!" TJ groaned.
"Let me finish." Millard said through gritted teeth. TJ rolled his eyes, but shut up. "Your grandmothers are the most powerful form of peculiar their is.
"But with great power came great responsibility." He continued. "They were expected to run homes for children like us, who don't have homes, due to the fact that our families would kick us out if they found out about our powers. They could not have any children for multiple reasons. Reason one being that it took away from the other children in a home.
"Reason two is a bit more complicated. You see, there is this old legend about an ymbryne once having a powerful child that caused destruction and harm to everyone around it. To avoid this happening ever again, an ymbryne law was placed, stating that no ymbryne could have children. That is, until your grandmothers disobeyed the law, having your parents."
"How do you know if our grandmothers are these immbrine things?" Natalie asked.
"Well, you see." Millard said. "I may have taken a strand each of your hairs to test and see your lineage due to some worry that you guys may be a danger when you stole from a Smart-Aide."
"I told you he grabbed a piece of my hair!" Victoria yelled at Luke.
"Millard?!" I yelled. I can't believe I had a crush on a guys who stole a piece of my hair, not to mention a piece of each of my friend's hair!
"Look, I'm sorry, but it was worth it. It did prove your peculiar heritage and that you were all peculiar." He said.
"It also revealed something else." Emma said.
"What?" Max asked.
"Luke, Emily, Charlie, and Natalie's second peculiarity."
~Millard's POV~
"Our...what?" Luke asked.
"An additional peculiarity that you all share." I explained. "Can you each summon a spirit?"
"Maybe..." Emily said, emerging from a car. She gave me another glare, and stood by her brother.
"You can...what?" Victoria asked.
"We can summon ghosts." Emily said. She smiled sheepishly at Max, Victoria, TJ, and Percy as her family members looked to their feet, while her friends glared at her.
"Why did you never tell us?" Percy asked them.
"Didn't really know how." Natalie said. "Gramps helped us perform the ritual as soon as our powers came in."
"Pecularities." I coughed. Emily, Luke, Natalie, and Charlie glared at me.
"As Tallie was saying, gramps showed us, and after the first time we did it, we hardly ever did it again." Charlie said.
"We did it once to try and talk to my dad," Luke said. "And after Gramps died, him, but never again."
"Why not?!" Victoria asked, annoyed.
"Yeah, why not?!" TJ said. "Wait, why are we so pissed?"
"Because you stupid blond," Max said. "We, well not including you, Em, and Charlie, all have dead parents who we would like to speak to. Well, just my dad. But Vicky's dad and Percy's mom too." Max said.
"You wanna know why we never told you?" Emily said angrily. She then smudged her wrist, showing a mark of a bird. Charlie and Luke did the same, also revealing a mark, while Natalie twisted her face and revealed a mark in the same place.
"This formed when Gramps taught us the art of speaking to the dead." Emily said, pointing to the mark.
"It hurt like hell when we first got it, and hurts like hell whenever we do the spirit thing." Luke said.
"Wait, let me see that!" Georgina said, running from her spot over to Emily. She grabbed her wrist, but didn't touch the mark.
She examined the mark for a couple of seconds before she gasped, her eyes widening. She gently pressed her pinky finger to Emily's wrist, causing Emily, Luke, Charlie, and Natalie to start screaming in pain.
"What are you doing to them?!" Victoria shouted.
"Fucking stop it!" Max yelled.
"Let go!"Percy screamed.
"Get the Fuck off of them!" TJ shouted.
At this point, their friends had tried to lung at Georgina, causing Emma, Jake, Hugh, and Bronwyn to hold them back, while Fiona and I stared at them in fright.
Natalie was sobbing loudly, begging for Georgina to stop, her hair turning white. Luke and Charlie were wincing in pain on the ground, both of them starting to cry from the pain.
Emily was the most pitiful sight. Georgina still had a grab on her wrist, causing Emily to crouch with her arm up, hiding her face from us. She looked to be crying silently, and when I heard her faint plea for Georgina to stop, I knew I had to cut in.
"Georgina stop it!" I screamed. Georgina looked to me before letting go of Emily's wrist, causing Emily, Luke, Charlie, and, Natalie to sigh relief.
"Natalie!" TJ called out. He, Percy, Victoria, and Max tried to wringle loose, but Bronwyn had grabbed their wrists.
"Will you hurt Georgina?" She asked them. They all choked out a "no", allowing Bronwyn to release them from her monster grip.
TJ immediately ran over to Natalie, while Natalie buried her head in TJ's chest, sobbing quietly. Her hair was still white, while her face was extremely pale.
Luke, Emily, and Charlie just sat their blankly, as if not having an explanation for what happened. Victoria, Max, and Percy shaking them lightly, trying to wake them out of the trance.
"We need to get them to Miss Finch, Millard." Georgina said. She looked a bit shaken herself, like she was afraid.
"What happened to them?" I asked her.
"If you thought those four were dangerous," she said, pointing to Victoria, Max, TJ, and Percy. "There is no word for how dangerous the ones with the mark are."
"What do you mean, Georgina?" I asked.
"They're extremely dangerous." She said. "To everyone."
I looked at the shaken teenagers. They looked the opposite of dangerous right now. Natalie, crying in TJ's arms, Luke and Charlie shaken up, and Emily crying while staring into a distance.
"What was that?" I asked Georgina again. She bit her lip once more, fear spreading across her face.
"I can't explain it." She said. "But Miss Finch can. Now let's load them up and go!" She looked at me with big eyes, almost begging me to agree.
"Fine." I said. "But, we can't tell them they're even more dangerous. You saw how that went." I said. She nodded and stepped over to the others, beckoning me to follow.
She crouched down by Victoria and Emily, reaching out to smooth Emily's hair, causing Victoria to glare at her.
"Who fuck are you?" Victoria said, meeting our eyes with her swollen ones.
"We can explain everything, Victoria." I said. "Please just come with us to see our care taker. Then, you will understand."
"Give me one reason." Victoria said.
"Everything will be clear." I stated. "Just come with us."
Victoria looked to Max and Percy, who had overheard our conversation.
"Fine." Percy said after getting the looks of approval from Max and Victoria. "But we drive."
"We can't allow you to do that." Emma said, walking towards us, with Hugh, Jake, and Bronwyn in her trail. "After all, how will you find the entrance without our guidance."
"Have you ever heard of GPS?" Max said.
"This isn't something you can find with GPS." Jake said. "One of us needs to at least drive one car."
"Fine, then one of you will." Victoria said. "You guys drive one of our cars, we drive the other three, deal?"
Jake looked to us and we shrugged simultaneously, not wanting another argument with them.
"Fine." Emma said. "Which one are we driving."
"Not Em's," Max said. "She'll have a panic attack if one of you dickheads drive her car." I was slightly offended by Max's comment (as was everyone), but didn't say anything.
"Nobody's driving Rosa!" TJ said, carrying Natalie over in his arms, Natalie still crying lightly.
"Or Dirty Old Bastard!" Max barked.
"Fine, since nobody wants to give up their car, I'll give up mine." Victoria said. She then tossed her keys in Emma's direction, who caught them in a nick of time.
"One thing gone, you're dead." She said. Emma nodded weakly before taking Jake's hand.
~Fiona's POV~
Victoria and Percy had helped Luke and Charlie up and directed them to different cars, while Max and TJ lifted Emily and Natalie.
We all started separating into different cars, Emma, Jake, Hugh, and Bronwyn going into what I assume was Victoria's car, Percy and TJ loading Natalie and Charlie into another, Victoria taking a car with Emily lying in the back, while Max took a car with Luke in the back.
"Victoria," Millard said. "Can I please ride in your car?" He batted his mascaraed eyelashes at her, causing her to roll her eyes and open the passenger door.
"Hey, Fi!" My ex-boyfriend yelled at me. "C'mon, let's go!" I glared at him, before making my way to an awkward car ride with my ex. I rubbed my stomach, sighing sadly.
"Hey, Fiona!" I turned around to see Percy calling me, jestering me over. "We have an extra seat!" He said. TJ nodded, and sat down in the back with Natalie and Charlie.
"Fiona, go." Georgina said to me. I looked at her strangely, but she only nodded. "No girl should be stuck in a car with a person who did that to her." I nodded back before making my way over to Percy and TJ, Percy opening the passenger door for me as I slid in.
"Thank you." I said. "Both of you."
"It's no big deal." Percy said. "Let me guess, he knocked you up?"
"Yes." I said silently, showing my head and shame.
"Hey, we get it." TJ said. I smiled up at them and they smiled back.
