Things you should avoid doing so as to not anger your Broadway fanatic buddy:

1. Don't try and join in.

Don't try to join in their singing, even if they've sung Helpless tens of thousands of times and you basically know the lyrics.

If you do join, you need to hit every note and get every word right, because they'll be paying insanely close attention to you once you've started singing. (Please note you will probably still annoy them by singing even if you do well)

2. Don't 'get into musicals'

If you're going to get into musicals, do it the right way; listen to one musical at least seventy time, then explore the fandom until you know the ships and the memes. Be ready to sacrifice entire weeks if necessary. Only then can you say you're a fan of whatever musical you're going for. Don't do this just to join in with your friend, do this because you're actually interested in the musical.

What you cannot do by any means is listen to the songs once then go to your musical obsessed friend and expect them to go easy on you once you've told them that you like the musical. They will start reciting lines. They will drag you behind school and say 'this is my favorite place behind school'. If you can't keep up the lyrics or if you falter too much, they'll up the difficulty until they've been fully convinced that you're a pathetic liar or just really unmotivated, neither of which you want to be seen as.

3. Don't ever tell them something bad about their musicals.

Unless it's a very good joke, they will start screeching every good thing about whichever musical you insulted. No saying that Mountain Dew was a stupid product to pick, or that Hamilton wasn't historically accurate. Only musical fans can do that. It's only ok when musical fans do that, they're given a pass because it's said with love.

4. Don't laugh.

Wether it's two musicals fans sharing memes, or a line that you think is particularly weird, don't laugh.

I'll admit, this is a bit harsh but until you know for sure that you have a pass, try not too.
