The sound of the rain hitting the pavement outside calmed me as I laid in bed, the window ajar just enough to let in a cold breeze.
It was around eight am on this rainy friday morning. I had to be to work at exactly nine am and with how glued to my bed I felt, it was the last thing I wanted to do.
Knowing I didn't have much of a choice, I rolled out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom, slipping off the silk gown I had been sleeping in.
I climbed into the shower, turning the water on and letting it run over my body, warming me up instantly. I washed my hair and body, trying to somewhat hurry so I wouldn't be late for work.
After I stepped out, I made my way to my closet, pulling out a casual plain T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. I then slipped on the first pair of shoes I could find then slung my bag over my shoulder before darting to the front door.
As I was in the process of locking the door behind me, my neighbors door opens, revealing him with messy bed head and a piece of toast hanging from his mouth.
"Morning." I say, laughing as I took in the rest of his appearance. He quite literally looked as if he had just rolled out of bed and straight out the front door.
"Morning beautiful!" He gushed, seeming to brighten up as he saw me. "Didn't feel like getting ready today?" I ask which earns a chuckle from him.
"How could you tell?" I shook my head at his response as I threw my keys into my bag before waving a hand.
"I'd love to stay and chat but I have to get to work." I say and he nods, giving me a thumbs up. "We still on for drinks tonight?" He asks from behind me as I begin to walk away.
"Absolutely! See you tonight, Yoongi!" Then I was off to work.
---
As soon as I got to work, I was greeted by my coworker Jin who just so happened to be my best friend as well and the reason I even had this job to begin with.
"Hey!" He says, a smile instantly brightening his face once he saw me. "Hey good morning, what time did you get here?" I ask as I sit down in the spot beside him, slinging my bag onto the side of my chair.
"I've been here since seven. I've been dying waiting for you to come in." Jin groans as he leans back in his chair, his eyes still on me.
"Well, I'm here now so no worries." I say as I log in to my computer as Jin sits and watches me do so.
"Do you want to hang out later, I've been so bored and we haven't hung out in forever it seems." Jin says with a frown.
I didn't bother looking away from my computer as I spoke, "I already have plans tonight, I'm sorry." I say and instantly, I hear Jin huff slightly.
"Don't tell me it's with that neighbor of yours..." He says a hint of what I could only assume to be jealousy in his voice.
I had known Jin since middle school and he had liked me ever since then. I already knew about his feelings for me but since I didn't want anything to change between us, we never did anything about his feelings.
That was way back when though so honestly, I wasn't too sure if he even still liked me. I didn't feel the need to ask so I just let it be.
"Yoongi and I are just friends, it isn't like that." I say as I finally glance over at Jin who has a frown plastered onto his face.
"Does he know that?" Jin asks and I watch his expression for a moment before I nod, "Yeah, I think so..."
Jin's nose scrunches up as he lets out a sigh. "I just don't think he's right for you." He says and my eyebrows raise.
"Yeah? Who is then?" I ask and Jin opens his mouth as if he were going to answer me but then quickly presses his lips back together, staying silent.
I could tell he wanted to say something, but he didn't. He just stayed silent until I spoke again.
"If you're that worried about it, why don't you tag along? I'm sure he won't mind, we're just friends after all." I say with a half-smile.
Jin seems to smile at that one. "Okay, yeah, I'm down for that." He says as he rolls his chair up closer to his desk as he too gets onto his computer.
"Perfect! Meet me at my place around nine or so." I say and Jin nods in response before getting back to work.
Once I'm left to myself, I let my mind wander as I begin to work.
I wasn't sure where Jin was getting the idea that Yoongi and I were anything more than neighbors and friends.
Sure, I hung out with Yoongi quite a lot but that was because he was right next door, my age, and not to mention a very cool dude all around.
I guess if I truly thought about it, maybe Yoongi did hit on me from time to time, but I never really reacted to it.
I wasn't really all that interested in a relationship anytime soon so I kind of just acted oblivious to it all.
Maybe that was a little messed up, but Yoongi never seemed to mind or say anything about it, so I didn't think too much about it either. It's just how we were.
When it came to Jin though, I never understood that. He used to like me back then but somehow, I wasn't sure if he still did.
Sometimes he would openly act jealous if someone flirted with me or if I talked about another guy in that sense, but other times he didn't seem to mind at all.
Of course, I didn't care either way because he knew how I felt but overall, it was just an odd situation.
I wondered how he would act tonight and how Yoongi would as well.
It was definitely going to be an interesting night.
