How to chores/not chores

For me, I do a lot of chores. In fact as I am writing this I just finished mowing the lawn. I am also the oldest of five kids, so I end up doing the hard stuff. While I might not have much advice on many chores themselves, I have found a couple strategies that help me go through with it quickly and hopefully with minimal effort.

First off! Don't complain about your chores! Even if they don't pay you. I don't actually get paid for doing chores unless it is something less common and harder to do, like mowing my aunt's yard. And trust me. The worst thing to do would be to wine or complain about the work. That just tells everyone that you are really lazy. And I know this is more like advice you would give a five year old, but I have been surprised by how many kids my age throw themselves around the place and complain about the work. I just helped my little cousin get his first shot not too long ago by detracting him. Surprise surprise I did so by telling him a random story with a funny voice. And remembering back, the advice we all gave him was the same I would suggest right now.

Even if it does hurt or whatever, the quicker you get it done the quicker you can go back to playing. Unless it is one of those days that your mom or whoever has a full list of chores for you and your siblings to get done.

What my mom sometimes does is she makes a list of all things that need to get done. Then she brings everyone together, shows them the list, tells everyone which things her and Daddy will be doing, and lets everyone debate about which chores they will be doing. My little sisters jump to the easy stuff automatically. And my brother often looks for the quickest job. Me however, let's just say I got a few different stratz. Now I wish I could have known this long ago, so it might be interesting information at least.

What I look for, is the dirtiest job. Something I can have fun doing but also leaves a few stains on my shirt. Like digging a hole. I often volunteer for any job that has to do with burying chickens. And sometimes when it is wet outside I look for a job that will make me muddy as possible.

One time it was one of those days where we all had to choose a job. But they were all outside and had to do with the chicken coop we were building. And I helped with wiring fences and nailing and screwing and all that, but I just felt as if my jubilee just wasn't satisfying. More on that once I'm done. So I heard that there was a large root in the way of the little ravine we were all digging so the water would flow out of the chicken run and into the creek. It was a pretty little ravine so no real back breaking work. So I was the one who decided to do most of the work. And you know when you are on a good chore track when your parents ask your little siblings to help you. It' like getting brownie points without them even saying anything to you. At least for me it is.

Anyway, there was this big root. And if you know me, you know I like tools and weapons. Short range weapons I prefer, but I do have a couple bows hanging on my wall beside my bow-stalf and short-stick. And my nunchuck. Just looked over and saw it right next to em as well. :]

So I quickly grabbed the job of taking out the root and walked over to the barn for any tools I might need. And keep in mind that it was raining, but not too hard, as we were all doing this. The first and what I thought should be the only thing I would need was the 16 pound metal pole that is like a flat head screwdriver at the end. That's the tool we usually use to kill roots. So I grabbed it and used that. But the root was so thick the pole only made a few chips fly. And mud that gathered under the root splashed into my face every time I slammed the tool on it, soaking my shirt and pants. It was fun.

Eventually I just dropped the pole and went for a fun little tool I had been wanting to try out ever since I saw it, but just never got the chance to use it until then. It was a huge axe. The handle going from the floor up to my waste. And it looked awesome. I had fun after that killing the root, splashing even more mud onto my face. And I finally finished, before everyone else.

And this is where I actually get to the moral of the story. You see, if I hadn't chosen a dirty job, I would have just gone from job to job until my parents were finally satisfied with all our word and we could all go back inside. But after that little axe job of mine, I was covered in mud. And everyone looked at me in awe because of it. So all my parents told me to do when I was done was to put the tools away and take a shower. So I did. Turned out I finished almost almost an hour before everyone else. And I could just sit back in my room playing while everyone finished up. It was great! And now, all I have to do is offer to do dirty jobs like cleaning up messes and picking up poop, and that builds up to equalling my siblings cleaning the whole house. But of course I also sweep and do other things too, but the dirtiest jobs get you the farthest.

And one thing to help out. I like to zone out while doing a job, so it doesn't feel so endless. That's why chopping a root, mowing, sweeping, and digging, are all jobs I often prefer. Because it doesn't really take much brain power to do those jobs. That way I can plan what I write in my next chapter, or imagine how I am going to rig up this new character as I do helpful work.

And that is kind of it. Just thought I'd write all this while it was fresh in my mind I don't really want to read through all these words right now however, so if there are any spelling errors just let me know. Of course I might just fix this later when I am bored or something. So, anyways. Byeee! :]
