Demons Decorated in Fancy Words (how to avoid innapropreate content)

OooOooOooo! Spoopy chapter name, isn't it? Well, while this page does, have to do with it, it is in no way as extreme! I just wanted to see if it would catch anyone's eye. :>

This is what I might put into video form someday. A little precaution for reading books, especially the fan made ones over here on Wattpad, therefore, this is mostly for those new to the hearty crew. :]

Soo, what exactly do I mean, "Demons Decorated in Fancy Words?" Well, anyone who has browsed through Wattpad might get a pretty good idea right away, especially: the dark murky depths of the app, which are actually not that hard to find. Books of all kinds are recommended to me, mainly because the system probably thinks I am some moody teen who just wants some book to relate with! Nah man. That's what the Minecraft fan-fics are for. :>

Even though I joined Wattpad this exact year, I could say I have had quite some experience under my belt. Though I am still the typical noob in several areas still. I do have some tips to hand out.

For those like me: people who just want to read something fun without running into any innapropreate stuff and without any idea as to how!

What to look-out for:

Alrighty! Let's start off with the biggest step towards keeping your little minds innocent and away from corruption!.. Just be glad I was your little guide to help you avoid the things I had to go through. 😅 😂 😭...

1) The cover!
My aunt and uncle taught me this handy rule a while ago while in a public subway far from home. It didn't really have a name, but I would call it something like 'the three second rule.' This rule is simple: the first second you look at something, you can't really process it in time to notice it as bad, but by the time the third second passes you'd better have looked away, or that image will stay in your mind likely for much longer than you had hoped. Wattpad people do a pretty good job at making sure the book covers are okay *cough* most of the time *cough,* so this rule is good to keep in mind.

2) The title.
A title can tell you a lot about a book, sometimes even more than the description. Depending on the sites, I have noticed certain code words being used for things as a warning when they don't want to simply CLICK THE 'MATURE' BUTTON. The problem with these code words however is that noobs, like me, have no idea what they mean until they read them.. and find out for themselves..
This code word I found comes in the form of five letters that spell: "LEMON." Do NOT read any books with that in the title or description-- which I will be getting to in a moment.-- just trust me.. beyond isn't good. It basically means the book has PG45 scenes inside. Soooo. Avoid any of that.

Other than the code word, it it also a good idea to pick out books with clearly stated titles with ideas that look quick and concise. The titles that have some kind of off to them then the writer was just possibly lazy and like the title, the rest of the book will be pretty poop too.

3) Descriptions.
Ello. This is something also important to look. Don't EVER skip a description. Descriptions are there for a reason. I find that lots of the time, if there isn't some kind of warning in the title, it can be found in the description. Also, books with like zero description are just a sign of laziness and could possibly hint that the writer saw their own book, innapropreate or not, as trash. So, I just skip any book with no description or very little description.

The best kind of description is one that properly synopsyzes the story you are interested in reading. A description should prepare the reader for what is to come, setting up any themes or ideas, even little hints that there might be innapropreate stuff if it's in the book. Just simply don't read any books that the descriptions don't catch your attention. It will save you much more than time.

4) Genres..
Now, genres. I usually don't search genres, instead i search very presice topics. I always stay away from horror. It's just my thing. Something I also star clear of is the romance genres. Why? Because people online are weird! I just stay around in my own little corner reading all the Minecraft adventure stories that follow what I listed above. Trust me! There are tons of them! I might even recommend some good writers with plenty of fun stories after this for all yall to read! :]
If the book itself is obviously about something bad, then simply don't read it.

5) Chapter names!
If the topic or genre of the book seems at all skeptical, but you are still curious, look at the names of the chapters. Lots of the time when books do not simply say, "Chapter 1-whatever," then instead the word or phrase will act as a little synopsis or clue as to how the chapter might go about. Read them closely for any signs of oddities. If the chapters seem too unorganized and sporadic, then it is probably just another sloppy book with who-knows-what! Usually not worth the read.

6) Pro-tips for while reading.
Keep a sharp eye out for any key word that might possibly lead into something. Look closely at how the writer describes the scene, what items in the room are described first and with what amount of detail. If you learn how to dissect any paragraph, then you are pretty set to go. However, sometimes things like that are written in a way to completely shock you. The best way to pick up hints of possible badness is by studying the characters' quotations, listening to your gut instincts. If something gives your stomach a weird feeling, then take that as a warning and exit out of the book, just like you would in real life; no matter how invested in the book you are. If you are really curious, then look in the comment section of the book. Usually the people commenting in there will give PLENTY of hints about what is going on. The best thing to do is to just stay on guard at all times if the book at all makes you feel uncomfortable. And if it goes too far, leave girl/boy, leave!
The same can be said for any book that hints towards very bloody and gruesome scenes.

End:

Alrighty! That's pretty much it! Readers, if there is anything I have left out accidentally, then please comment it right here for others, and myself, to read and thonk on:

If this was at all helpful, then great! Glad I could help! :]

Cool writers I totally recommend, but I don't want to @ and make angry:

GameVoid

RCatFire77

Feel free to search these people up and read their stuff, or look in my follows list and find them there. :]
There are others with great stories, but these accounts especially are ones I know have more younger audience friendly, not dark, content. Sorry, Miezawesome and Tabby. :>

Aaaaand, Seeya!
