+short experimental advice

Note : this mostly applies to stories of which the plot is thought of or prioritized first before the character.

Ok, so this method is more experimental and greatly relies on your ability to retain information as well as constantly reread your story. It also relies on your ability to keep consistency throughout your writing.

This is also my personal opinion, so if this method doesn't sit right with you then that's no problem.

Disclaimer over. Let's get to it.

So when I wrote other stories like Another True Story and my wip Slut, I had absolutely no idea who my characters were.

Nilch. Niet. Zero. Non. I knew their names sure, and maybe one or two traits about them, but that was about it. I didn't plan their backstories, their development, or their dynamics. I was ALL about the plot, and I chose to go with the flow of however way my character would react.

In Another True Story, I never knew Sakura had an obsession with money and attention till the 20th chapter. And in Slut, I didn't know why Lola was so fixed on Jungkook–even if she was the one who dumped him.

(And to this day i still don't know 🙂)

All I had was my plot, my average writing skills, and a brain full of ideas.

And though writing like this can be a bit more messy, not having a clue on who your oc is...has it's perks.

: :

See, when you start off your story not knowing who your character is, it's almost like seeing your character through the eyes of a reader.

When someone reads your book and meets your character for the first time, they don't KNOW who they are, nor their story or why they act the way they do, and this leads them to want to get to know more about your oc. This curiosity to know more is something that you, as a writer of your book, lack, because you've planned out every last detail of what's going to happen to your character.

And this can get so...robotic, like you're just fitting in things that should happen when they should and how your character reacts to it.

But when you're writing your story with little idea of your character, it's like...idk how to explain it without sounding weirdly poetic, but it's literally like you're taking the journey with them, narrating as they go on, and learning more and more about them as each chapter passes by.

You're learning about them at the same pace your readers are learning about them, and this can be easier for people who like to info dump like a bitch.

(Now you don't have any info to dump. Ha!)

So with each chapter you write, you think "oh how will my character act/react to this? What if they–" jot down your ideas or make a mental mind map! Cancel out the ones that make no sense and keep the ones that do! Then when you're done, add it to your story and to your image of that character!

And just write. Let that image of your character reflect on the pages, and no matter how many times something may be added or removed or altered in that image, don't be worried or scared. Just keep moving with your character.

And in the end you'll look back and wonder how you didn't know a thing about your oc in the first place.

: :

The moral of this is to not try to cram every single damn detail about your character in your head. Who is you? Jesus? 🗿

But cram all them technicalities tho bc niggas like me will call you out when you accidentally write that Hikari's taijutsu stats is 4.2 when in the last chapter it was 4.3

🗿🗿you fool.
