Their shinobi path can greatly be determined by the inheritance they have. For example, Gaara inherited the sand from his father, and that set the path to the ultimate defense system. Ino is the daughter of Inoichi so the Ino-Shik-Cho formation had been set in stone from the beginning.

Hell, they don't need a kekkei genkai to have a shinobi path set in stone. Take Lee for example, that man has nothing but his fists so it was obvious he was gonna use his fists LOL.

What clan is your oc from? What skills did your oc's parents possess? Do you want your oc to have the same set of skills?

Hey, maybe they'll take the exact opposite path of their family members. Don't be restricted to what they were born with, think about what they can work for.

People like Naruto were born with huge chakra reserves, so it makes it easier for him to learn big and flashy jutsu. People like sakura were not born with Big-E chakra, so they had to work to build that shit up.
