Chapter 35
Later that night you sat on the couch staring at the fire, watching the flames twirl around swiftly into the air. As you watched the fire you felt someone sitting beside you. When you looked you saw Valka smiling softly at you.
"What's wrong dear?"
"Snoggletog is a few days away and I have no idea what to give Hiccup," you said as you rubbed your temples.
"Well whatever you make he sure would love it."
"Yeah but the thing is what do I make?"
"Whatever you think he will like. You known him for months dear."
"I guess your right," you sighed.
It was silent for a few minutes and all you could hear was the crackling fire and Midnight's snores. Than Valka spoke up.
"So have you kissed him yet?"
"What..uh...n-no we haven't," you said looking away.
Valka raised an eyebrow at you gesturing you to continue.
"Well...uh, today when we went out to test my flight suit we landed on an island and we were just goofing off, and we both fell down with me landing on top."
Your cheeks were burning a bright red from embarrassment as you spoke but you still continued on.
"We were leaning in but Toothless came and licked Hiccup's face," you said still blushing.
Valka just chuckled softly at your flustered state.
"He sure does like you dear, don't forget to tell him before it's to late."
"Yeah, I'll tell him when the time is right."
"I know your afraid but trust me it'll be worth it," she smiled.
"Thank you mom...uh I mean Val! I...uh this is embarrassing."
You covered your face with your hands as Valka just laughed softly at you.
"It's alright dear no need to apologize. I never had a daughter but I look at you as one."
You than looked up at her as he gave you a kiss on your forehead.
"Goodnight dear, make sure Hiccup gets rest."
"Night Val."
She waved goodnight before going upstairs to go to sleep. When she left you leaned back and sighed. You never had a mom growing up and really you never felt a mother's love. You couldn't help but look at Valka as a mother figure in your life. She took you in and cared for you, you felt loved.
Sometimes you would cry yourself to sleep wishing they would come back, but you knew that would never happen. You would also thank the Gods for finding Midnight, Hiccup, Valka, and everyone else. You believed that the Gods did this for a reason. While staring at the fire Midnight came up to you and nuzzled your face. You didn't realize why until you felt tears streaming down your cheeks.
"Its alright Midnight, Im okay."
You wiped the tears away. She than pulled you down and wrapped her tail around you. Midnight knew how you felt because she has also lost her parents that night. She always stayed strong for you and on nights like these when you were down she was always there for you.
You weren't just her rider you were her best friend, you were everything to her. Midnight cooed on your ear and layed her head on your lap. After awhile Hiccup and Toothless entered the house quietly. Hiccup saw you and Midnight and the ground laying by the fire. He smiled and picked you up gently bridal style and layed you softly on the couch.
Toothless walked over to Midnight and curled around Midnight tired from the long day. After he settled you on the couch he was about to leave until you spoke softly in a whisper.
"Stay."
He obeyed and took off his armor and layed next to you. Once he layed down you curled up into his side, letting his warmth surround you. Hiccup than wrapped his arm around your waist kissing you softly on your forehead before falling asleep while the fire slowly died down into the night.
