16 b Moment You Left
Fiona woke up on the last day of their holiday. The winter sun was streaming in through the curtains. She stretched out to find David and found the bed empty. She discovered a note on the pillow next to her.
When you get this, get dressed and meet me in the kitchen, big breakfast, big surprise, dress warm D x
She leapt out of bed and quickly dressed, not wanting to miss a minute of the day. The last fortnight was the best time in her life and she did not want to waste a moment of today. Tomorrow would be here soon enough. They had both packed their bags and placed them in the next room. As though their presence would break the spell of the romantic bubble they had lived in for the last fortnight.
Fiona complied with the letter. She dressed warm and then ran down the stairs shouting, "David Williams, I want you right now! Where the fuck are you?"
She bounded into the kitchen to see two women sat looking at her and David making coffee looking sheepish. The woman nearest to her, she made an educated guess to be David's Aunt Eileen, dressed in casually in jeans and a jumper, she got up and gave Fiona a hug.
"I am Eileen, I have heard so much about you." she kept hugging Fiona as though if she let her go she might run away. Eileen was exactly as David had described her. Bubbly and full of love.
Fiona looked at David and to the other woman. David mouthed. "My mother" to her. David's mother was petite, dark blonde like her son with huge green eyes and a wide smile. Her presence was the biggest shock of all. David had told Fiona that his mother had made arrangements to pick him up at the airport.
"I am Laura, David's Mom." Laura extended her hand to Fiona. Eileen let Fiona go and Laura pulled her into yet another warm embrace. Fiona was not used to public displays of affection, however, she felt herself enjoy the introduction. "I am so sorry to intrude, we have spoken a lot on the phone haven't we?" Laura grinned at Fiona. Fiona was exactly as David described. A lovely girl that made her son very happy.
Fiona desperately tried to regain her composure. "Yes, yes we have. How is the dog?" Fiona and Laura had bonded over the phone when David stopped calling his mother after moving in with Suzie. Fiona would make small talk with Laura whilst jotting down all the information she had to relay to David when he came back for his things.
"Oh better, it was an allergy to beef can you believe?" Laura hugged Fiona and deposited her at her kitchen table.
"David, stop gawping and get the girl some breakfast." Eileen mock scolded, David. "I hear you are going to Abersoch today to the beach house."
"Eileen!" Laura chided, "It's a surprise!" Laura shook her head and laughed.
"Oh me and my mouth!" Eileen gasped,"Well it means you are out whilst me and his mum set out your...." Laura placed her hand over Eileen's mouth.
"I am afraid that Eileen is incapable of keeping any kind of secret." Laura laughed and gave Eileen a warning glare.
David stood shaking his head in amusement. "Honey here is coffee and a pain au chocolat." David smiled at Fiona, "My mother came over to help me back to Boston, egged on no doubt by the calls from Eileen, so really she is here to see you, not help me!" he grinned.
"David Eustace Williams, enough! I am here on important family business and to help you back to Boston." Laura slapped David gently on the arm.
Fiona ate her pastry and drank her coffee watching David's interplay with his family. He was different with them. Almost boyish, it was a vulnerable side to him that he had never let her see before.
Eventually, after a hearty breakfast and two more coffees, they were ready to leave. David waved off his family and took Fiona's hand as they walked to the car.
"OK, Eustace where are we going exactly." Fiona tried to hide her smirk.
David guffawed, "I knew you would latch on to that." He could not believe his mother blurted out his hated middle name. Damn to hell family tradition.
"Can't imagine why you kept that quiet!" Fiona laughed it was a ridiculous middle name. Somehow it suited him to have a mysterious middle name. It was as though he was revealing new layers of himself to her.
"I am so sorry about my mom! Eileen must have told her about us being here and I don't know why but she is here, you are not upset are you?" David led Fiona to her car. He was sure some women would have got completely the wrong idea of his mother turning up. He himself was absolutely stunned when she walked in that morning. Laura Williams was not a flighty woman.
"No, not at all! though it has put a dent in my 'be naked all day with David' plans." Fiona really did have that plan in mind.
"I can see that, though I think you are going to like today." David liked the sound of being naked all day with Fiona, indeed he hoped he could at least partially ensure that the plan included nakedness.
They drove up the North Wales coast to Abersoch. It was a bright winter morning with the sun shining and the wind biting across the coast. When they got to the village David directed her to a small blue cottage at the sea front.
"Another property owned by you?" Fiona was beginning to feel officially freaked out. Given that Paul's family thought she was a gold digger, what would David's family think? He was definitely far better off than he let on. Fiona understood that David wanted someone to like him for who he was, rather than what he could give.
"The family." he corrected her, whilst finding the key under a gnome in the garden. He led her through the traditional facade of the cottage to an open plan modern glass house with views across the bay and out to sea. Fiona's mouth remained wide open, taking in the splendour of yet another house. She followed David downstairs to a lower level which led out to a path to the beach.
"We are going to have a beach breakfast BBQ and then I am going to ask you to do something a little corny for me." It was. David's heart felt heavy. How could he leave her for six months when six minutes at the moment felt like a lifetime? He needed to have something to remind him of her.
"I am intrigued." Fiona could see that David's demeanour had changed. There was a touch of sadness in his eyes that broke her heart.
"Good, I want you to be. Now, let's get the sausages on!" David carefully explained the process of cooking on the beach with what nature had given them. Fiona ran around finding large stones to make a pit. David sought out the dry driftwood and set a fire inside the stones that she found. The bay sheltered the beach from the worst of the winter wind and wrapped up they cooked sausages on the BBQ.
"My mum taught my dad to do this." David explained, "When I was young, my dad taught me how to do this. We would eat out in our place at home and when we came here. All of the locals learned to do this from my mom and dad." David stared intently at the fire. "I want you to visit me when I am in Boston. When you do I will take you to our place at the sea. You will love it. It's not too warm and it's very isolated." He looked up and gazed at her. By isolated, he meant lots of places for outdoor sex. Plenty of small coves so sheltered that only the locals knew of them.
Fiona knew that look and understood the reference to isolated. A warm glow spread around her. He wanted her to visit. "I will save like a demon and try and visit you when you have time off too. I have never been to the states. I think I have found myself the ideal tour guide."
"Yes ma'am you have, now eat up, I have lots of vigorous activity planned for the next few hours and you will need your strength." When they had finished David took Fiona out to the shoreline.
"Ok so this is the corniest thing you will have ever heard, please don't judge me."David laughed. he was judging himself never mind Fiona judging him.
"Go for it." Fiona squeezed his hand. She was intrigued. Here was David truly letting his guard down and she liked it. She liked this vulnerable side of him.
"This goes to the Irish Sea, which then becomes the Atlantic Ocean. I will be in Massachusetts on the other side of that ocean, every time I want to be with you, I will look at the sea, because I can. I want you to take a picture of this water and every time you miss me to look at it, because it will be the only thing keeping us apart." He knew when he was back in Boston, he would look at the water in the bay and think of it joining and separating them at the same time.
"Then I will." Fiona felt her emotions rising, she fought hard to keep them under control. How on earth was she going to manage being separated from him for six months? She snuggled into David. He dropped the smallest and most passionate kiss on her lips that set off a chain reaction in her body.
Fiona fished around in her coat and found her camera. She took some photographs of the sea, the beach and the barbeque. She needed something tangible to remember this by. She needed a memento of this day, this moment that she could hold on to when she couldn't hold on to him for 180 days.
When Fiona was content that she had taken all of the photographs she needed she walked back to David's embrace. She clamped herself to him. She could hear his heart. She took in his natural scent as she felt the wind tear around them both. They both took the moment to form a long term memory.
David took Fiona's hand and walked her back towards the cottage. "The beach house has a Jacuzzi bath in it, come on back and we can have one last bath together." There would be many one lasts that day and each one made the day more poignant.
Fiona and David spent the remainder of the day at the beach cottage wrapped in each other not wanting to lose the physical imprint of each other for a second. At 6 pm David packed up the house. Fiona drove the car back. David gave her directions which looked a little odd to Fiona. Instead of going to his home she turned the car towards Portmeirion.
The Portmeirion estate was a thing of beauty. It was a miniature piece of Italy in the middle of Wales. The small village had been created by the owner years ago as a way of him showing off his architectural knowledge. The hotel David directed Fiona to was the jewel in the crown. It looked like it had been ripped from the pages of an Agatha Christie novel.
"David what are we doing here?" she asked truly astonished.
"It's our last night and as much as I love my mother, I have six months with her. My mom and Eileen packed our things up and we are staying here tonight in the best suite they have." Laura had booked it before she came across from Boston. She wanted them to have some privacy whilst she stayed at the house.
"David I can't afford..." Fiona panicked. This place would cost a night what she made in a month.
"My mom sprung for it as she intruded and my mom is super loaded, so don't feel guilty. We have cocktails at 7 30 pm and dinner at 8 pm prompt, now let's go and get ready." David adored that Fiona wanted to pay her way for everything. Somehow it reassured him that she liked him for him.
"I have nothing to wear." Fiona thought she would stick out like a sore thumb dressed in her jumper, jeans and wellies at this posh dinner.
"Don't worry. I took out some things for you. My mom and Eileen have taken care of everything."
"Everything?" Fiona wiggled her eyebrows in a suggestive manner.
"Well there are things that I am more skilled in, so let's say we get up to the room. We can have that pre-date sex you like and later I can have the slightly sozzled sex that I have straight A's in." David grinned as he led Fiona into the hotel.
"Oh please do hurry." Fiona smiled at David. She took in her surroundings and felt the need to give herself a good hard pinch. This was straight out of a Romance Novel. She allowed herself to love it just a little.
At 7 30 David and Fiona were in the bar drinking Cosmopolitans looking out towards the sea, holding hands, both lost in their thoughts of leaving each other. David was thinking about coves in Nantucket and which ones he would like to show her first.
"David, if I forget to tell you, I have had the best holiday ever." Fiona broke the silence she squeezed his hand.
"Me too, it's back to reality tomorrow for us both huh?" he kissed the top of her head. Drawing her closer drinking in her scent. How was he going to manage six months without that alluring sensation?
"Can I ask you to promise me something?" she asked in a serious tone.
"Of course, anything?" He would have promised his first born at this point. He would give her the moon and the stars.
"I want you to enjoy being there, I don't want you to be tied to me. I mean, this isn't coming out the way I mean it to." she turned to face him, "Six months and an ocean can do mad things to anyone. If you meet someone else, I want you to not feel guilty or anything." She meant it. She wanted him to be happy. She wanted them to remain friends.
"I am not sure I am following you..." he gave her a puzzled look. Had she not felt the same?
"The boys told me about Grace, I can't imagine how you felt, but you were in a long-term relationship with her. This..us..it's been such a short but incredible time. I don't want you to feel ..burdened." It was true. Fiona wanted David to enjoy being back in Boston. She didn't want him to worry or be encumbered by being tied to her.
"Ok, so, you are saying let's see how this thing works out right? You are not dumping me?" David needed the clarity. Was she letting him go so she could be with someone else? He was pretty sure there wasn't someone else.
"Are you mental? Right now I want to give it all up, run after you to Boston, live in a cardboard box if I need to just to see you every day. I am fighting every urge in me just to say this. So no, not dumping you AT ALL. Just trying to be prag..."
David kissed her. She was trying to save him from being alone in Boston. She was giving him the option of a license to do as he pleased. What pleased him was to be with her. He knew he didn't want the company of any other woman ever again. It would be purely mechanical and right now that felt hollow and ugly next to what he was experiencing with this magnificent woman.
"Enough with the sensible head, we have tonight. I don't want anyone else. Not ever. Not in six days, six weeks or six months. What could anyone else possibly offer me that would be better than you? Better than us?"
"I don't know David. That is the point I am very inarticulately making. I feel things for you at this very second that I have never felt for anyone. You are amazing. Someone else may find you amazing too and you might......."
David kissed her. He heard her say that she had never felt the same about anyone. His heart could not have felt any larger as it did now. Neither could another part of his anatomy which was desperate to find itself in a certain part of hers.
Fiona tore her lips away from David. "We should get dinner. You mum has paid for it and if we don't eat now I don't think we will have the stamina for tonight."
Later that evening they lay in each other's arms, afraid to sleep and lose any of the time they had left with one another. They booked breakfast in bed. They spent every second they could be wrapped in their desire for each other which seemed to have no end. It was a beast that could not be satiated.
When the time came they packed their bags into Fiona's small car and drove to Heathrow. This time, David stayed awake with them both chatting about everything and nothing until they reached the terminal. Fiona parked the car in a far isolated part of the multi-storey.
David pulled her across the car and sat her in his lap as they kissed. Their bodies used shorthand to say goodbye. Fiona shook off her underwear as she hastily undid his jeans.
"Oh babe, this is so hot." David whispered into her throat. His hot kisses burning onto her flesh. He had never seen her so feral, so passionate.
"David, please, how long before you need to be at the terminal?" Fiona needed to know how long she could have him physically inside her. She needed to count the minutes before she released him and had her back again. It wasn't a request it was a need. A bare stripped down need like oxygen.
"Twenty minutes," David managed to speak. Her soft wet lips were teasing his cock." Good God!." He gasped, he wanted her as much as she needed him. She slid her tongue around the top of his cock then she rolled on a condom and pushed herself on to him.
It was carnal. It was lust driven. She screamed out in pleasure. She let everything she was feeling, the frustration of him leaving, her uncontrolled want of him. She let it out.
David had never had sex like it. It was base, needy and hot. Her want of him was driving him insane. Her hard thrusts on him made him want to explode in pleasure. He wanted this to never end.
"David! Dear God!" Fiona's orgasm was the most intense of her life. The waves in her pelvis. The waves from her toes to her throat were so powerful it was almost painful. When the first one abated the second one came in straight afterwards.
David watched as he drove her to the brink and back twice. She looked in ecstasy. She looked wanton and he was the cause and the effect. He loved that he made her feel that way and he knew if she orgasmed again he could no longer hold back his own.
Fiona was unsure of everything apart from her need for her next release. She whimpered as David thrust into her. Chasing his own release made hers happen at exactly the same time.
She sat in his lap laughing and crying at the same time. It was the most intense physical and emotionally feeling that she had ever experienced.
"Wow, well.." David panted, "That will give me something to think about on the plane home."
Fiona couldn't speak. She sat up to kiss him and noticed out the corner of her eye a group of women in the next car. She stole a quick look. The women were dressed for a hen weekend. Replete in tiaras and wings with matching pink t-shirts. She wasn't sure how long they had been there. She was sure when she parked the car no one else was nearby.
She looked up and all of the women in the car gave her a big cheer and a round of applause.
She looked at David and they both burst out laughing.
"When?" David asked, clearly he had not noticed them parking up. He gave them all his knicker dropping smile.
The women trooped out of the car and giggled their way down the car park.
"No idea." Fiona laughed. "They at least saw the encore if not the finale."
"Fiona that was....." David kissed her passionately.
"I know, it's never been like that with anyone before. You need to come back now. That's what I will be pining for."
Fiona wriggled back into her underwear and David closed his jeans. They walked hand in hand to the check in desk wrapped in each other until the very last minute when David had to go through security.
"Six months isn't that long..." David hugged her. He loved the bones of her.
"It will be a breeze." she sniffed, "look make sure you find your mother and here," she gave him the tape, "listen to this when you miss me ok, I will write, you will write, we can call."
David hugged her, inhaling her scent for the last time,"I miss you already." He did. He wanted to find somewhere in the airport where he could have her as he just did in the car. She was like a drug he had instantly become addicted to.
Fiona watched as David went through the security gate and then barely made it to her car where she sobbed solidly for fifteen minutes. She had a good look for security cameras and when she had allayed her fears that she was about to become a porn star, she drove off through a veil of tears and grins.
David struggled through security and found his mother in the first class lounge, where she hugged him and he stayed in her hug for a few minutes pulling himself together.
"Are you ok honey?" Laura knew the look. He was devastated to be leaving.
"Sure mom, I will be, just give me a few hours and I will be right." he smiled, he dug around in his rucksack and found his walkman and put on the tape. First Track was The The - This is the day. Indeed it was.
