10a New Girl
The domestic routine was altered with the introduction of Suzanne, or Suzie, as David referred to her. The residents of Grove Road hardly saw David for the next six weeks. He came home to change clothes and then stay over at her house in Shepherd's Bush.
Fiona, without David as a guide to London, had met up with Simon a gay nurse in the hospital bar. He introduced her the Fridge a legendary gay club in Brixton and the infamous Love Muscle club on a Tuesday night. It was as if Caligula and the last days had collided and she loved it. The people were decadent without a hint of morals and the music was amazing. Fiona went as often as she could.
The music was hardcore Euro Trance. The dance floor was filled to capacity with sweaty gyrating men. None of whom were in the vagina business. It was a let your hair down and dance to the rhythm until you ran out of puff type of club.
The Fridge had several floors and two dance floors. On the largest dance floor, there were cages in the air where semi-naked men danced during the night. One Tuesday night Fiona met one of the cage dancers on his break and spent until 3 am on the dance floor with him. He was an Adonis, smooth jet black hair, almond eyes. The heady mix of Eurotrance and high-energy music made for a great night of energetic dancing. The lights in the venue came on at the end of the night. That was the ready made signal to leave.
"Thanks, Guy, I have had a great night, see you next week." Fiona jumped over and gave the beautiful man a peck on the cheek.
"Ehm, Can I ask you a question?" Guy whispered in her ear drawing him closer to her.
"Sure!" she smiled up at him.
"Do you think I am gay?" he stared at her with a serious look on his face.
"Of course you are gay, you are up there dancing every week, with the best looking men in London baying for your body. It must be nice to dance with someone who is not ogling you constantly, I get it. That's why I come here, the best looking men that I can look at, not touch, it is safe. Anyway we straight women get all of the dross, you gay men get all the good ones and we get the leftovers." Fiona was red-faced and sweaty from all the exertion whilst dancing.
"Fiona, I am a professional dancer, I teach, I am not gay." he smiled at her. The majority of men in the cages were as camp as a row of pink tents.
"Shit! Really? Oh, my God. I would not have been so suggestive with my moves if I thought for a minute..." Fiona thought about what a prick tease she must have seemed.
"I know, I knew, would you like a night of lovemaking to shame the Gods?" he asked boldly.
She knew everyone was out of the house that night. David was at Suzie's, Bill was with Heather in Scotland, Dan was at Nikki's, Richard was away on a course in the Cotswolds and Emlyn was visiting Cardiff.
Fiona thought about her response for a millisecond. "Hell yes!" She took his hand and led him to her parked car and drove him back to Chelsea at breakneck speed.
She brought Guy back to Grove Road and she had phenomenal sex with him in the kitchen, hall, living room, dining room, stairs, landing, bathroom and finally her bedroom. She made sure that she ticked off every room in the house that was clean.
At midday, she called him a cab and thanked him for an amazing time and hastened him home. They stood at the doorway and he grabbed her to him as the cab came down the street to pick him up.
"You need to mend that heart and give yourself permission to fall in love." he kissed her gently.
"Thank you, I mean for everything." she blushed.
"See you at the club, if you want, you know where to find me." Guy kissed Fiona again and sprinted to the cab dressed in spare clothes she could find from the lads around the house.
She drew her dressing gown around her naked body shuddered, giggled and walked into the kitchen to see David sat at the table grinning at her she jumped and screamed in shock.
"Hells teeth you gave me the fright of my life!" Fiona scolded.
"You bloody gave him the night of his life, for the first time in mine I was genuinely frightened to come out of my room, you can make some noise lady!" David howled laughing holding onto the table for support.
"I thought nobody was here!" she scolded," Why did you choose today to be here for the first day in months?" she slumped into a chair next to him covering her face in embarrassment.
"Ah, schedules, you know prepping for exams, part two's and stuff, needed to get my things to take back to Suzie's." he said, ruffling her hair, "Tea?" Fiona nodded and David filled a cup for her. "You need rehydrating."
"Suzie is it??" she taunted. "How is your adult one woman relationship going?"
"I have you to thank, if you hadn't been busting my balls over it, I wouldn't have been so open to it. She is great you know, the type who takes no bull and knows what she wants."
"Good for you mate!" she lied. She hoped she wasn't as transparent as she felt.
"You seem happy," David said smiling at Fiona nudging her.
"I am," she smiled back, "though your mum is freaking out that you are not taking her calls on a Thursday and it is me who is fielding them. She thinks I have got you hostage. Did you get my messages I left for you in A&E?"
David slapped his forehead. He had been so wrapped up in Suzie he did the unforgivable and broke the code of Grove Road, i.e. he dumped his mates for a woman. Worse than that, for the first time in ten years he missed his mother's calls. That would take some explaining. No doubt his mother would be getting quite excited at the thought of him not returning calls because of being out with a woman, he smiled to himself.
"Thanks for the messages Ninj!" David looked at her. Staying at Suzie's had not let his crush ease.
"No problem." lied Fiona again. Suzie made it clear from day one that she cared little for Fiona and even less for the lads. She had taken Fiona aside in The Stargazey during a night out after she had been seeing David for a couple of weeks.
"He talks about you a lot." Suzie said dryly when she and Fiona had been left alone for the first time that night.
"He will," explained Fiona sipping her bottle of San Miguel, "I live with him and the other four reprobates. They are all like the big brothers I never had, and I was used to running a home and well it just happened by osmosis you know."
"He told me about trying to sleep with you." Suzie stared directly at Fiona. Fiona nearly choked on her drink.
"It would not matter who lived with them, they all would try to have a crack at that particular woman. I have learned that there is considerable money and perks riding on the first one to get into my knickers but it is not going to happen. Don't poo on your own doorstep and all that." explained Fiona trying desperately to find someone to join their conversation and take the heat off of her.
"You don't fool me for a minute, I have seen the way you both look at one another and I am on to you." Suzie moved in closer and whispered, "Back off."
Fiona was so shocked she spent the next half an hour trying to get her mouth to close. Nikki spotted how out of sorts Fiona was. She left Dan and bought Fiona a beer.
"What's up with that stuck up bitch?" Nikki inquired motioning Fiona to the table where everyone was sat. Suzie was eyeing Fiona whilst at the same time listening to David and Bill discuss a resuscitation they were both at that day.
"She just told me that she was on to me and to back off away from Boston."Fiona muttered quietly still reeling from the verbal punch she had been given.
"Do you want me to punch the bitch out," Nikki laughed, "cos I am just looking for an excuse, she looks at me as if I am something she scraped off of her shoe." Nikki was right. Suzie was a man's woman. She took no time or social graces with any of David's female friends.
"Ah, that's because you are not male or a doctor." Fiona replied, allowing herself a bitchy retort.
"Is that vinegar tits there you are talking about," interrupted Lyn, "because I will slap her good looking if she looks at me like that again." Lyn glared at Suzie for good measure. Suzie looked at all three of them, gave a smug tight smile and looked the other way.
"I think she is just intimidated by us." lied Fiona, inside she knew that Suzie did not like nurses and looked down on them. "She is David's girlfriend and for his sake, I think we need to make an effort."
"Ok." Nikki and Lyn both deadpanned in unison not meaning it one bit.
Fiona brought herself back to the present and made David a fresh pot of tea and gave him the not so good biscuits as she caught him up on the house gossip.
David learned that things were moving fast with Bill and Heather. Bill was always up in Scotland spending hours on the phone, asking Fiona constantly about other men Heather may be seeing, Emlyn had a few on the go, Dan and Richard seemed pretty tame at the moment too with the double dating of Nikki and Lyn.
She regaled him with her new found Fag Hag status in the various gay clubs around London. David laughed at all of the tooing and froings at the house, finally, Fiona gave him the best bit of gossip.
"Then last week, Jilly the Filly says she is meeting up with an old flame Eric. I mean that's a shit name right? So about tennish, I was coming off a shift late and a great big Rolls Royce turns up. Then out gets - you will never believe this - Eric Clapton. Well, he gets out, the car goes, next day he leaves about the same time, poor guy could hardly walk. Jilly the Filly officially knobs Rock Royalty! I am getting a tee shirt with that on."
David burst into fits of laughter. "You know come to think of it, I am sure I saw Mick Jagger once staggering out of there. Then possibly Robert Plant, could have been David Coverdale though!" David laughed.
"We could have names like tour dates on the back!" Fiona added.
"Wow, I have missed a lot!" David and Fiona exchanged serious glances and the atmosphere turned a little more serious.
"You know at this rate you may as well move out Boston." Fiona could see the effect her words had on David by the change in his body language.
"I know," he stammered. "My lease is up in January. With me having the six months ER internship in Boston in February and I think Suzie and I might move in together when I get back. Her place is in Shepherd's Bush, she bought it and it makes sense for me to kind of help out with rent as I am spending the majority of my time there."
"That is so romantic, are you sweeping her off her feet with that kind of talk?" Fiona poked him in the ribs.
"She is different Ninj, I mean, she is not like my normal type you know that. She is sweet, serious and she wants a proper full on relationship." he smiled softly at her "Sure, I mean Susie is 34 and if we want to make a life together then why wait?" He shrugged and dug his hands into his jeans pocket. He looked at Fiona for reassurance.
Fiona smiled back and said softly,"Is that you or her talking Boston. You are only 30. Of course, if you think it is right then it is right. Me? I shouldn't be doling out relationship advice to anyone. My record stinks thus far and as long as you are happy who am I to interfere?"
"Thanks for the concern Ninj but you know I am happy." He ruffled her hair and hugged her. He grabbed his rucksack and walked out of the door.
Fiona watched him leave. Had he altered so much in such a small space of time? Was he serious about moving in with Suzie? She would need to call an urgent house meeting to discuss.
