We made it. We made it to my house in one piece.

We walked through the door, immediately locking it behind us. We went around locking everything. No one could get in unless they broke a window, and why would you want to crawl through a rim of broken glass?

Only idiots would do that, you know?

We were all hiding in Mom's room. No one was left behind. Even Iris was there hiding. She was actually sleeping, as it was her nap time. Everyone else was awake. Ms. Thompsen was still in her pyjamas, and Mom was supposed to be home soon.

I heard the jingling of her keys, and immediately ran downstairs to see her. I pulled her in, slammed the door shut, and locked it, all in a fluid motion.

"What the hell is wrong with you, Ash?"

"Well my friend, you know her, Jackie, ran over here in the middle of the night, telling me her dad ad escaped."

"Escaped? Escaped what?"

"Prison."

"Ash! Are you telling me her and her family are all here? Hiding?!"

"Yes..."

"Dear Lord. Ash! You've put all of us in danger! Why didn't you call the cops?!"

"Well, Mom..."

"That's it. I'm calling the cops. He will be arrested."

"Mom, then he'll target us if he escapes..."

"Ash! You're the one that dragged us all into this! You could've just called the police in the first place!"

I sighed. She was right, after all.

I called the cops, stuttering. I explained to them how I had to save my friend at all costs and invited her over with her mom and that her dad was just outside waiting with weapons and he threatened both her mother's and my friend's lives.

They said they'd come as fast as they could. They were having a busy day.

I called again saying I stabbed him.

I had to get them here. They had to save her.

They came as fast as possible. I told them I just wanted to get them here and I really stabbed no one. I just had to get them to get rid of her dad.

Who threatened them both, actively had a weapon, and has hurt them both already.

He's a child molester.

They needed to come.

And they did, after lecturing me about lying, especially about such a serious matter, and then I yelled at them about how a child molester is loose and homicidal, coming after my family and hers, and they shut up.

Serves them right, you know?
