~○●○~
It's been a very busy day for the CEO of Arora Corporation, Vikram Singh Arora. It's nothing new anyway. He has always surrounded himself with work since a very young age. It wasn't that easy to lead a totally bankrupt company to the peak. He had to shed his blood, sweat and tears. His hard work earned him a renowned place in the business world. That man proved his worth by becoming a millionaire at the age of 25. Now, at the age of 31, he is worth more than billionaire dollars.
He is a self made star to say the least. So, he does have to work every second he gets. It won't be wrong to label him as a workaholic.
He is the role model for the ambitious youngests for his work. His hard work has earned him the reputation.
But, nobody is perfect. Neither is the golden boy Vikram Singh Arora. He has some flaws which went away with the flow but it doesn't take time for your past to hit you hard.
"Where is my other file, Naina? The Gupta Industries one? " Vikram turns his gaze at his personal secretary as he asks.
"Mr.Arora, it's on the left side of your desk. "She respectfully replies.
"Here it is! Thanks, Naina." Vikram sweetly smiles at the lady who replies his gesture genuinely.
He is so exhausted that he can't even find things that are right beside him. No wonder CEOs depend on their secretaries so much. He is so blessed to have Naina in his life. She is a savior.
"It's no problem, Mr. Arora.
By the way, coffee?" Vikram's eyes spark at that. He really needs one and that will be his 10th cup today.
"You already know my answer." He chuckles, looking at her.
"Black coffee without any touch of sugar like always." Naina recites his order. She has memorized it by heart. He always asks for the same coffee. It never changes.
"Good to see a caring secretary for once." Vikram jokes without moving his gaze from the file.
Naina just shakes her head in amusement before leaving his office. He had fired tons of secretaries before she was hired. She really needed this job but it seemed like he needed her more than she needed the job. She has been working for him for the last 6 years. She has seen both the ups and downs of this company. Needless to say that she is a witness of Vikram's hard work, passion and dedication.
After a few minutes, Naina comes back with his blacker than Satan's soul coffee and some cookies.
Yeah, he doesn't like sweet coffee but he does have sweet teeth when it comes to cookies.
"Thanks again, Naina."
"It's my job, Mr.Arora. You pay me to bring you 10 cups of coffee everyday. Sorting out your files and arranging your schedule are just some small parts of my job." She replies sarcastically to which Vikram laughs.
"Hmm" Vikram moans as he takes a sip from the coffee. He feels dead tired. In this situation, only a cup of coffee can revive him.
"You should stop this caffeine addiction of yours. It's not healthy, you know?" Naina says. She has been saying the same stuff since she joined but who listens to her?
"You know I can't function without coffee."
"Well-"
"It's quite late now. You should go home now, Mrs.secretary." Vikram cuts her off. He will get a headache for sure if she lectures him on health.
"You sure? I know you will work all night here. I can stay if you need anything." She kindly offers even though she is tired. It was a long day.
"It's ok, Naina. Go home and take care of your kids." Vikram gently says.
Yes, he needs help with the file but it's past working hours. Naina has done her part. He can't be selfish now, can he? It's another trait of his that helped him become a great businessman. He is always mindful of his employees and cares about their comfort as well.
In short, Vikram is the most kind boss you can ever see. His sweet nature is the hot topic of the business industry along with his dashing looks.
Everyone thinks he has perfect wealth, perfect face, perfect behavior so he must have a perfect life. But the word perfect isn't perfect itself.
Soon after, Naina takes her leave, leaving him all alone but surrounded by files and work. He wants to sleep but it feels like work is only adding up to the pile of files, not decreasing. It's already 1 am. He hardly slept for 4 hours. Now, even 10 cups of coffee can't save him anymore. He gradually falls asleep; leaning his head on the desk. His purpose was to take a little nap of 10 minutes but we all know how that goes.
However, his peaceful slumber gets disturbed when he feels his phone vibrating on the desk near his head. He wanted to ignore the call but what if it's an emergency? Without having any willpower to wake up, he opens his tired eyes and gets his phone. But he is late to answer the call. He registers the fact that it's from a private number.
He got 3 missed calls.
He didn't know how he slept through the first 2 calls. He must be very tired. Because usually, he has a sharp hearing sense. He doesn't go back to sleep hoping the caller will call again. He is curious to know who will call him at his ungodly hour. When his phone vibrates once again, he picks it up after the first ring.
"Hello?" Vikram says, being a bit skeptical, in a sleepy voice.
"Isn't it hard to sleep so peacefully after whatever you have done, Mr.Arora?" A male voice mocks through the phone.
It shocks Vikram but he doesn't want to feed his fear. It must be one of those scammers who called his number randomly.
"Listen here you dipshit, if you are trying to pull a prank, you are messing with the wrong person." Vikram almost yells.
Not even a responsible businessman can be spared from the grumpiness that comes when someone disturbs his sleep.
"It's a shame that you don't remember what you did wrong, Mr.Arora. Want me to remind you?" The voice says.
"Listen-"
"2 years ago. On this very day. What's the date today again? Oh yeah! 21st June. What did you do on this day, Mr.Arora?"
Vikram visibly pales at the mention of this date. He thought he had been successful in burying that incident. He did everything in his power to hide whatever happened that day. How can a random person know what took place that day? How?
"I will give you some time to remember. What to say? I'm a very generous man. Well, till then sleep tight Mr.Arora. You need it, trust me." With that the man cuts the call.
Vikram is too shocked to process whatever just happened. He is too scared of the past reappearing in front of him. But his imperfect past is knocking at the door, ready to destroy his perfect present.
The man cuts the call after successfully snatching away much needed sleep from the young CEO and sending him into a spiral of thoughts.
A/N: Thoughts?
Anyway, next chapter will be fun :)
