"You did what, bhaiya?"
"I have already told you hundreds of times, Kai." Sanjay mutters in an annoyed tone, huffing afterwards.
"But I want to hear it again and this time you will say that you are kidding, okay?"
Sanjay does really want to keep a serious face and make sure Kairav gets it through his thick head that his words will indeed stand. However, this boy has the ability to make him laugh even in serious situation. Sanjay turns his back on his brother to control his facial expression. If he ends up laughing, there is no way Kairav will take him seriously. While the scenario is not serious, Kairav thinks his brother is too angry to face him and that's why he has turned his back.
"Bhaiya, please." Kairav whines, touching his brother's arm to turn him back.
When Sanjay is sure he won't end up laughing seeing his brother's distressed face, he finally looks him in the eyes. He does a good job in holding a glare which makes Kairav whine harder.
"Please tell me that you are joking, bhaiya."
"I'm not kidding, Kai. Absolutely not. I really applied for your internship in Arora Corporation and the interview is in 2 days."
Sanjay has told him the same thing more than a hundred times in the past 10 minutes, if that's even possible, yet he finds it hard to believe it. He doesn't want to do an internship anywhere at the moment. So, he shakes his head furiously.
"No way! I'm not doing any interviews with any Annoying Corporation."
"It's Arora and hell you are doing it."
He dramatically falls from the couch and grabs his brother's legs in anticipation that he will let the matter go.
"Please, bhaiya. Do you know people bully the interns a lot? What if they bully me there? Can you see your baby brother in pain, huh?"
"If someone bullies you then I will personally send them to the hospital but for you to get bullied, you need to get in first. You need to attend the interview to get in, my dear baby brother." Sanjay pinches Kairav's cheeks.
Kairav huffs realizing his tactics won't work in this matter. When even puppy eyes don't work, there is hope only with logic. Though Kairav doesn't make sense most of the time, he can at least try right now.
"Your tricks won't work now, Kai. Use this energy in the interview."
Kairav goes back to take his seat on the couch right next to his brother with determination that he will make his brother back down from his ordeal.
"Come on now! Just think about it. The interview is in 2 days and I don't even know how the interview works. I mean I need to be mentally prepared, right? Why aren't you understanding my point, bhaiya?"
"You will just have to lay your qualifications in front of the interviewer. They will ask some basic questions which anyone can answer. Don't be too nervous. I will help you with it. You still have 2 days." Kairav rolls his eyes at that.
"I'm not going anywhere. I have an important assignment that needs my attention urgently. I also have important classes that cannot be missed. Try to understand, bhaiya." Kairav tries to reason.
"I've already talked to your professors. You don't have any important classes in the next few days. You can take a day off. Don't lie to me."
Damn, why did his brother have to always walk ahead. Now how will he convince his brother?
"Bhaiya-"
"Not a word, Kairav. It's not like I'm telling you to join a company and do a full time job. Just attend the interview. Do you know how big the company is? If you can get an internship from this company, you will have a heavy resume in your hand. Try to understand my point, Kai."
But Kairav is too stubborn to understand his point. He doesn't want to work in the corporate field. In fact, he wants to open his own business soon. He is not good with people being bossy with him. He won't be able to handle being an intern and go "yes, sir." the whole day.
"Just tell me I'm a burden. I thought you loved me but you don't." He fake cries.
Sanjay knows Kairav doesn't mean whatever he is saying but it still hurts hearing his brother calling himself a burden.
"Is that what you think of me?"
Kairav understands how heavy his words must have sounded to his brother because all of a sudden he looks gloomy.
His brother has a habit of overthinking. Kairav knows hundreds of thoughts will cloud his mind. So, to mend his mistake, he hugs his brother tightly who gets startled by the sudden showcase of skinship.
"What are you doing?" Sanjay asks, being engulfed by his little brother.
"I'm sorry, bhaiya. I know I'm not a burden on you. I was just joking. Don't take my words at heart. I will do the interview or any shit you ask me to. Just don't be like that." Sanjay smiles at that.
Kairav may act like a brat most of the time but he knows very well how to win a heart.
They end their night by having dinner cooked by Sanjay, of course. Though Kairav agreed to go on the interview, he still doesn't want to do it. We will just do very badly at the interview so that they won't even dare to take him in. He smirks at his master plan. He is keeping his brother's words and his own will at the same time. Someone should give him an award.
*****
"At least try your shoelaces properly, idiot." Sanjay shakes his head seeing his little brother struggling with his shoelace.
"Tie it for me please, bhai." Kairav asks so cutely that Sanjay can't deny.
This boy is practically an adult now but can't even tie his shoe lace. What will he do in life? Sanjay isn't wrong to worry about him all the time.
But the truth lies hundreds of miles away from it. Kairav has learned how to do it perfectly. A long time ago. He used to trip over them all the damn time. Being fed up with it, he learned how to do it by watching tutorials on YouTube. It was hard yet he learnt it. But he doesn't want his brother to know that. Sanjay has always been doing things for Kairav. But as he grew up, Sanjay didn't have much left to do other than cooking. Kairav just wants his brother to feel that he will always need his brother in life. And he makes it apparent by letting his brother do these little things.
Kairav gives Sanjay a toothy grin when Sanjay kneels down in front of him and does his shoelace, Kairav doesn't miss to catch a small smile adorning his brother's face.
"Love you, bhaiya. Be good at work and remember to eat in time." Placing a kiss on his brother's forehead, he runs outside.
"Don't you feel lazy today?" Sanjay yells to his retreating brother.
"No! Tani said she has a gift for me!"
"Don't bother that poor girl too much." Kairav stops in his tracks to glare at his brother. Sanjay just smiles.
"Bye. I love you too." Kairav resumes his run with a smile.
Kairav conceals his excitement. He is supposed to be angry at Tani for talking behind his back. Tani has been waiting with her car for the past 30 minutes. Kairav made her wait willingly but when Tani texted him that she had a gift for him, he couldn't wait anymore.
"Good morning!" Tani greets in a cheerful voice but Kairav remains grumpy.
She realizes she needs to do some extra work to make it up to him.
"Where's my gift?" He asks eagerly, keeping his facial expression neutral.
"So, you won't talk to me but will accept my gift? What logic is this?"
Kairav just glares at her.
"Well, I'm not the one who told my brother everything. Do you know how many times I got hit by his slippers?" Tani laughs at him instead.
"Serves you right. I get beaten up by my mother everyday because of you. Do you see me complaining?" Kairav rolls his eyes.
"I don't wanna talk to you. Just give me my gift. I swear if it's not something good, I will tell your mother what you did to me." He smirks.
"Yaar, trust me. I didn't really want to tell bhaiya about it. You weren't available so he called me and my tongue slipped. You know I can't lie to him."
"Whatever. Just give-" He doesn't get to finish it as Tani throws a box at his face.
"You fucker-" He grabs the box and is about to throw it at her but she stops him by saying, "That's your gift. Be careful with it."
Kairav eyes the box carefully. He brings the box near his ear to check if he gets to hear any ticking sound. In case she planted a bomb or something.
Rolling her eyes at him, Tani starts the car. They are already behind schedule because Mr.Brat decided to throw a fit.
After he is done inspecting it properly, he finally unwraps it. As soon as he sees what's inside it, he gasps loudly.
"Tani, what the fuck?" He screams.
Is he really seeing the right thing? It's the package of an iPhone. Tani's family is well off but Tani herself is a miser ass.
"Well, you lost your phone so I decided to give you one."
"I don't believe you." He would rather be skeptical than being happy just to be deceived at the end.
Tani doesn't give him much reaction as she is busy driving the car.
To test his theory he rips open the box. He does really hope that his useless best friend has really bought the newest version of iPhone for him but knowing her it seems impossible.
"You are really a bitch." Kairav curses as he finds an old Nokia button phone inside the box while Tani is laughing her ass off.
Kairav controls himself from smacking her head. He will do it once they are out of the car.
"Hey, I never said that I got you an iphone. It's not my fault that you have such high hopes." Kairav just flashes a middle finger at her.
The rest of the ride was not silent. At all. Kairav almost bled her ears telling how worse she was as a best friend. He complained the whole time actually.
*******
Vikram is trying his best to work in inspite of being dead tired. He hasn't slept well for the past few days and it's not hard to tell. Everyone who looks at him just once can tell he is sleep deprived.
It scares him a little when he gets a phone call but the fear vanishes as soon as he notices the caller id.
"What are you two doing behind my back?" Vikram laughs at the accusatory tone.
"What do you mean, my dear little brother?"
"Don't little brother me."
"Aww, why do you sound so fed up?"
"Because I am."
"And why is that?"
Vikram feels at peace speaking with Veer. God, he missed his brother so much. He just didn't know how to show his face to his brother after all this so he didn't try to contact him. Ever since that night he hasn't spent much time with Veer and it makes him feel like an irresponsible older brother. However, he is glad that Priya is there with him to take care of him.
"You don't even give me a call but hang out with my wife like everyday. You think I don't know anything. I have my team of spies on your every move."
"I'm sorry. I promise to visit you soon. It's just Priya and I are working on a project together." Vikram can imagine his brother smiling at that.
It's too easy to make Veer happy. No matter how angry he is with someone, some sweet words will soothe his heart.
"I need to go now. Finally my wife has some free time for me. Don't try to ruin it." His little brother warns.
"Don't forget to take protection. I know you two are married but still it's too early." Vikram teases.
"You are so vulgar. Bye." Vikram can tell his brother looks like a tomato now. That boy blushes too much.
"Bye. I love you."
Veer cuts the call saying love you back to him.
Vikram had to bury himself in work soon after having a small talk with his brother. He finds himself somewhat cheerful right now.
"What's my schedule tomorrow, Naina." He asks, hoping he will have a free day tomorrow so that he can meet up with his brother.
"You have a board meeting regarding the budget of the new projects
And then you have a meeting with a client."
"I will be free by afternoon then, won't I?"
"Actually, no. You have meetings in the afternoon. I see something bizarre in your schedule."
"What do you mean?" She gives her ipad to him.
"You will be taking interviews of the new interns tomorrow morning?"
Oh, Vikram nearly forgot about it. He knows it's bizarre indeed. It's the HR department that does all the hiring process unless it's for a higher level post.
"As our company is holding this kind of event for the first time, I just wanted to make sure it went smoothly." Naina gives him a skeptical look.
"Whatever you say, boss." She says, not really believing him.
The real reason behind it is not the wellbeing of his company but to catch the real culprit. Vikram has his men working on the matter and they have finally tracked down the number.
"You need a new printer, Mr.Arora. I'm tired of going to the 5th floor to print all the copies." Naina complains.
"I will have it installed soon." He has been saying the same thing for a hundred times but he keeps forgetting.
Shaking her head in disappointment she leaves the office to print out some papers.
Vikram takes the chance and calls priya.
"Did you find out anything about the number?" Priya asks as soon as she picks up the call.
"His name is Kairav Sharma."
"Hmm. Do you want me to deal with him?" She offers.
"No. The amusing thing is that he applied for the post of an intern. I'm curious to know if it's a coincidence or if he's really the culprit." Vikram vocalizes his thoughts.
He is not sure what to think to be honest. That kid's record says that he is totally clean. Now, a totally clean profile doesn't exist unless it's a made up one. Maybe once he meets the kid, he will come to know his intentions. He can't jump into conclusions right now.
"There must be some agenda behind it. Take my advice and don't go easy on him. Looks can be deceiving." Priya warns.
"Don't worry. I will handle it. I'm meeting him tomorrow actually. Let's see how Kairav Sharma is actually."
A/N: And the drama begins :)
