33 - Girls Vs Guys
Olivia
Is it weird if the only thing your younger sister and best friend have in common is your love life? Because that's just what I found out about my own sister and best friend.
"I can't believe that this is what gets the two of you to bond," I mumble into my hand. I sit cross legged on my bed with a pillow in my lap.
Naomi grins. "Hey. This is your fault."
I throw my hands up. "How is this my fault? All I did was ask what I should do about Nick and Charlie."
"And that summoned me, because ya know. Team Nick all the way," Sasha says. She leans her head back onto my bed to show me her toothy smile.
Naomi side-eyes her. "No way. Charlie is so much better."
"How do you figure?" Sasha lifts her head up to look at Naomi.
I groan and flop back onto my bed.
"Well, for one he's helping her find a career while all Nick is doing is confusing the poor girl. And two, Charlie actually tries to act like a gentleman and doesn't play with Olivia's feelings."
I bolt up. "Nick doesn't-"
"Nick is just playing hard to get! I mean, he's perfect for Olivia! After her last boyfriend he'll be a real prince charming."
"Can you guys stop talking like I'm not here please?"
They both have the gull to look guilty.
"And I didn't invite you here to discuss who's better."
Sasha raises her hand. "I wasn't invited."
I roll my eyes. "I'm aware." I sigh. "But regardless. You're both here. And I need some advice."
Naomi gives me a are you kidding look. "You do realize that's just asking us to pick teams, right?"
I groan and shake my head. "It's not. Because I already know who I like. Especially after me and Nick agreed there's nothing there." I fold my arms and huff in triumph.
"She picked a team," Sasha whispers.
I whack her with a pillow. "That's not what we're calling this!"
She giggles. "Yeah okay."
Naomi hides her grin behind her hand.
I roll my eyes at them. Why did I think asking for their help was a good idea? Oh, that's right, because it was only supposed to be Naomi's advice. But Sasha wanted to be included and somehow, against my will, she managed to get in here.
"Anyways. I need to know how I should talk to Nick the next time I see him. I really don't want to ruin my friendship with him or make anything awkward between us."
"She chose Charlie!" Naomi yells.
Sasha crosses her arms. "Yeah yeah. You win."
Naomi holds out her hand. A smug smile sits on her face. "You owe me five bucks."
"You guys bet on me?!" I bury my face in my hands.
"Not directly on you," Sasha comments.
"Just about which guy you would choose." Naomi grabs her cup and hides her smug smirk behind it.
"God." My face is flaming hot as I look up at them. "I thought you two would be helpful."
Naomi snickers. "Please. Your best friend and sister trying to help you? That's a disaster waiting to happen."
"For you, that is," Sasha adds. "It's a great evil plan for us."
"You two are horrible."
They give me evil grins. I shake my head at them. As much as I don't want them teaming up against me, it is nice seeing them get along.
"Okay," Naomi says. "So, back to the point, can't you just go back to the way you guys were before? Act like nothing happened?"
Sasha nods. "He's really nice and would do it to make you feel comfortable. Plus, I don't see him pushing you if you don't want to talk about what happened."
"I don't really want to pretend it didn't happen. Is there anything else I could do?" I ask.
Naomi shrugs. "Talk about it like adults?"
I sigh. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to talk to him about it. But I know it's the best way to go about it. Especially since I still want to be friends with him.
"Okay. So I'll talk to him when I see him at the bakery next." I take a deep breath. "But what do I do about Charlie?"
"What about Charlie?" Sasha asks.
I roll my eyes.
Naomi reaches out and smacks her arm. "She means, how should she tell him that she likes him."
Her eyes widen as understanding dawns in them. "Oh! Well... um... I have no clue."
I whack her on the back of her head. "Gee. Thanks so much!"
She smiles sheepishly. "Hey. I don't have any experience like you two!"
I look down at my hands. "I don't have much experience either. Jake did the work getting us together."
Naomi scoffs. "That guy was a jerk. If I was you I wouldn't count him."
Sasha lowers her brows. "What do you mean? Jake was pretty nice."
I shake my head. "Don't worry about it, Sasha."
She looks up at me. Concern dances in her eyes. "Are you sure?"
I nod. "Right now I'm more focused on how and when I should tell Charlie that I like him."
Naomi squeals. "I have the perfect idea! What if after he takes you to your last job you talk about how much you like it and then slip in the detail about you liking him?"
I roll the idea around in my head. "It... could work but..." I shrug. "I'm not sure though. Because for one, what if I don't end up liking the job? And two, I don't think I'd want to make me finding my job being about how I like him."
She juts her bottom lip out but nods. "Fair enough."
"What if you just told him?"
I shift my weight. "I don't know." I bite my bottom lip. "It sounds simple enough but I don't think I'd have the courage to just tell him. I want it to be special."
"Oh! I know!" Sasha jumps up and onto my bed. She places her face really close to mine. Her breath smells like she just woke up. "What if you made him a mix of his favorite fudge and yours? And then put icing on top with the words; I like you, or will you go out with me?" She smiles brightly.
My eyes widen. "That might... that might actually work," I say slowly.
"It would mean something to both of you," Naomi says from where she sits. A smile on her face.
I grin broadly. Turning my gaze back to Sasha I grab her and bring her into a hug. She tries to squirm her way out of it, but I don't let her. "Thanks for your help!"
"Let me go!" she mumble screams into my shoulder.
I laugh, and ruffle her hair before letting her go.
She huffs and fixes her hair. "You're welcome by the way." Then that curious and excited look replaces her angry one. "So, when are you going to tell him?"
I rub my hands together. "I was thinking the day after my last job?"
Naomi's jaw drops open. "So soon?"
I nod. "I figured it would be better to do it soon. I don't even know if Charlie would want to keep in touch once he's done helping me." Afterall, it was just supposed to be a job for him. "I don't even know if he likes me back."
Naomi snickers. "Please. That boy is in love with you."
My face heats up. "What? No he isn't!"
She rolls her eyes. "Please. He couldn't keep his eyes off of you yesterday during our tutoring session."
Somehow my face gets warmer. "Well thank you for that information. I think it's about time you're leaving." I'm feeling too exposed right now and need all this to stop.
Who am I kidding? I just want to start planning out my confession.
Naomi stands up with a dramatic sigh. "Fine. I guess I'll leave you to start fantasizing about your lover."
I can't believe my face can get warmer than it already is. "I will not be fantasizing about him! Thank you very much!"
She laughs, tilting her head back as she does. "Whatever you say girl." When we reach my bedroom door she turns around and pins me with a serious expression. "If he breaks your heart I'll break his leg."
My eyes widen. "Please don't."
Her face morphs from serious to laughing in a matter of seconds. "I'm only joking."
I chuckle. "Ha ha. Very funny."
She sombers up again and places her hand on my shoulder. "But seriously. If he does hurt you, I'm here for you."
I give her a nervous smile. "Thank you. But I don't think Charlie would do that."
"Neither do I, but you never know." She shrugs. "Anyways, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"See ya tomorrow." I wave as she walks down our empty hallway. I turn back around to find Sasha sitting on my bed. My eyes widen in surprise as my mouth pops open. "You're still here."
She nods. "Do you really like him that much?"
I nod.
She tilts her head to the side. "But what about Nick? I thought you liked him?"
"I did. But... feelings change." I walk over and sit down on the bed beside her. "Me and Nick kissed and it... it wasn't everything that I wanted. In fact, it was horrible. There wasn't anything there between us."
She scrunches her eyebrows. "But there is with Charlie?"
I shrug. "I think so. It feels different being with him than it was with Jake or Nick. He gets me in a way that no one else does."
Her gaze softens. "Well, if you think he's the one for you, I'm happy for you."
I grin. "Thanks, Sasha."
She nods and hops off my bed. "I'll leave you to start planning your confession! And if you need help with the baking let me know!"
I nod. "I will."
She grins and leaves my room with a bounce in her step she didn't have when she entered.
I sigh and flop back onto my bed. A huge grin spreads on my face. I can't believe I'm about to do this.
It has to be perfect.
