|7- Trees|
We stood huddled in the briefing area, anxious and all leaning forward in the slightest, waiting to hear what news Zane had been able to pry from my mechanical friends head. The warrior of white rapidly pushed buttons, each making a clacking sound as he worked. I stood my ground beside Lloyd, an inkling of doubt spreading through my mind that he truly did trust me. I managed to shake my head clear of the thought before training my eyes at the screen with which Zane projected his results.
Before us was the sprawled form of the canine, cords coming from his chest and head to hook into the large screen before us. A soft whirring sound came from him and it seemed his paws twitched as if he was a normal animal caught in a dream. My head tilted to the side with this observation before my attention was stolen by that of Zane, pulling up a screen of numbers and phrases I could not decipher.
"That looks like a bunch of hullabaloo." Kai mumbled and crossed his arms over his chest.
I tore my gaze away from the garbled nonsense and watched as Zane's brow furrowed in confusion. "This is unlike any code we have ever seen."
"Even your programming and Borg's?" Lloyd questioned from my side, placing the palms of his hands down on the table before us, leaning forward.
Zane nodded in response, seeming to be rattled by this. "It is beyond my processing capabilities."
"Is there anyone else who may be able to understand or perhaps even create something this complex?" I asked, meeting Zane's blue eyes as he shook his head.
"Not that I am aware of."
"So we're back at square one." Cole said with a huff. "That's just swell."
As we dispersed, I racked my memory for any other details I had seen in prior visions that could be of use to us. Nothing came to my mind and I found myself in the kitchen, a hum growing inside my chest. As if I had done this a million times before, I boiled water and prepared the tea with ease, rubbing three or so leaves between my fingers as I worked. I dropped the blue tea leaves into the cup and brought it to my lips before stopping, my eyes meeting Lloyd's, who stood hovering in the doorway, seeming to have been there the entire time I was in here.
My shoulders rose closer to my ears and I gave a tentative smile before casting my gaze down and sliding my cup into the sink as if I had never made tea. "Apologies, I was just making-"
"Tea. I know. It's fine." He nodded towards the sink where the cup of tea was to tell me it was okay. My hands cupped around the drink and I held it close as he continued. "What kind is it this time?" He asked, stepping in to the kitchen and coming to stand a few feet away from me.
I lowered the cup, blowing at the steam rising from the liquid. "Actually, this is a tea that works to bring memories closer to the forefront of the brain and can trigger visions more easily."
Lloyd went rigid for a second and quickly pried the cup from me, to which I looked up and frowned in protest. "You can't just drink vision tea where you could easily fall and bust your head open." He narrowed his eyes at me and I reached for the cup once more.
"Fine. I will then go drink my tea elsewhere." I offered and he shook his head, gently pulling me down to sit on the floor with him.
"Come on." He slid down to sit beside me and only then did he return my tea to me, which I quickly drank.
"Why are you helping us?" He asked as I reached up and placed the empty cup in the sink.
I returned to my spot and pondered his question for a moment before responding. "I am not quite sure I understand why you ask. I am simply helping because it is the right thing to do." My gaze fell to my hands as my head fell a little light.
"It just seems like a lot to ask putting you in harms was for us and all of Ninjago."
"That is just it. If I do not assist, I fear for what may happen to both Ninjago and its protectors." I swayed and met his eyes with a smile. "I believe there is a vision coming."
Lloyd's eyes flashed a worried green and was quick to pull me close to him, protecting me as I slipped into the vision.
The night was dark and deep, sky absent of moon and stars. An eerie wind swept around and I gazed upon a small form huddled beneath a tree as thunder growled far in the distance. The one laid under the tree shook and sobs met my ears as rain drizzled around.
From under the tree, Leila cried, her small frame shaking with each breath in and out. Though my heart ached, dread filled me as a tall, dark form stepped from the trees and came close to the unsuspecting girl. The figure came to stand beside Leila, a hand outstretched in an offer to assist. My skin crawled as the girls eyes pulled up to see the figure and it helped her stand.
The figure helped her to her feet but my heart dropped as it's head snapped in my direct and eyes sparked alight, a bright glowing red.
"Oni."
