|11- Ashes|
I held tight to Lloyd, my heart left back at the Bounty. We flew on his dragon, which was something fairly new to me. I was unprepared when he summoned the beast from thin air and yet still asked me to climb up on top of it. To say I was a little frightened of it disappearing again whilst I was on it was an understatement. Thus, in order to deal with this idea, I pressed my face into Lloyd's back and I felt his body vibrate in a laugh. "Are you okay?"
"Pardon my actions! I have never been on a dragon before." I hollered to be heard over the wind. The dragon dipped and I gritted my teeth. Eventually it slowed, and I removed my face to look downwards.
"It's gotten a lot worse since I left." Lloyd muttered, following my gaze.
Below me, the city of Ninjago burned. Buildings went up in fire and smoke, ashes flurrying around the streets. Some buildings had been crumbled, chunks left on the asphalt. The army of mechanical canines roamed the street, many stained red with blood. What turned my blood to ice was the amount of bodies littering the city streets. Children, women, men. People of all ages. Their corpses lined the walkways, blood pooled underneath each of them. I tore my gaze away and managed to shake my head. "You must hurry, your team needs you."
Lloyd kicked his dragon into high speed, flying into the worst part of the city. Here, active fires licked at the buildings, mechanical barks echoing off the walls, screams mingling amping them. Tears formed in my eyes at the sight of so many suffering. I snapped my gaze away as Lloyd turned to face me. He gave me a smile before thumbing through the teas in the box placed in my lap. I watched his face as he pulled a few out rapidly and stuffed the vials in the random pockets of his gi.
He caught me watching and raised his eyebrows. "Is everything okay?"
I closed my eyes and dipped my head. "You nearly died last time you fought Leila, must you do so again?"
I opened my eyes as he placed a hand over mine and my heart fluttered in my chest. "These people will die if we don't do something. I have to do something." His eyes flared green in determination and mine did the same in response.
I held my breath for a moment before leaning forward and pressing my lips to his. Lloyd flinched before leaning into it, his arms wrapping around me.
I pulled away, face flushed red and eyes burning purple. "Please do not die. Again."
He laughed and smiled, which made my heart soar. "No promises!" He spun back around and I wrapped my arms around him again, leaning my head against his shoulder.
The dragons wings flapped as it came to rest on top of a short building near where Leila fought the other warriors. Lloyd took my hand and the box of teas before pulling me close to him as we slid off the dragon. On the roof of building beside ours, Leila laughed wildly, the sound echoing. The warriors bled in many different places and I sucked in a breath. Lloyd's hand found mine and it gave a gentle squeeze. Mechanical canines outnumbered the warriors as they worked to push them off the roof or send them down and unable to fight back. Lloyd pulled me to the side of the roof where we could duck behind the lip of the roof and he thrust the box of teas into my hands.
"Work on throwing the offensive ones you made. I'll try to hold off the canines so the others can come get some from you. I have the healing ones, which I'll give them when I get over there." His was found mine and I noticed him shaking. I placed a hand on his forearm and smiled.
"You can do this, Lloyd." I muttered and he shrugged.
"Don't die." He repeated the words I had said to him earlier and smiled wide. I let out a deep breath as he leaped from our building to theirs.
He tumbled, landing in a roll. Leila's eyes shone wildly from behind her snarling mask as she noticed him. She flicked her wrist and a canine charged him and my heart skipped a beat. Silver fangs bared, the beast leaped on him and he pulled to the side, hands lighting in green energy and he threw the orbs at the creature, which slowed it for a second. This gave him enough time to run to his teammates and threw them the healing teas, which they downed and immediately seemed to perk up.
I ducked below my cover again and fiddled with the teas placed in the box. I quickly managed to rearrange them by color so I could grab them according to what they did. My fingers found a deep crimson colored tea and my hand clenched around it before I pulled up above my cover long enough to throw it.
The vial soared and smashed upon impact as it hit Leila's side, clanking against her metal arm. As it shattered, it flared up into a fiery explosion, hissing and pushing Leila back. I quickly ducked down, hoping she hadn't seen me.
Lloyd was quick to catch her attention, pulling her eyes away from my hiding spot. I wasn't able to hear what he said from the clash of metal on metal of weapons of the warriors clashing those of the canines. Yells and hollers caught my attention and I gripped another vial before glancing upwards. My eyes widened as I saw Wu riding his own dragon, white beard flowing in the wind.
One voice reached my ears, that of Leila, drawn out and dripping with malice. "Finally." She hissed and my heart fell.
"Master, your time to die has come."
