What to do if you suspect a fake cop is pulling you over.

This is a serious problem in some location, and it's particularly dangerous for women. People have been car jacked, raped, robbed and even murdered in this manner. Criminals that do this are extremely dangerous, and they do everything to make it look like they're a legitimate police officer.

There are some rules that you can follow it you suspect that this is happening to you:
First, slow down but don't stop. Try to find a well-lit area, especially in a busy (populated) location, but you go only so far with this. You can also try calling 911 and report what's happening, your location and that you suspect a fake. One thing to remember is that a police cruiser should have flashing red or blue lights. If you don't see that, turn on your flashers. These ideas came from a State Trooper.

In the United States, most cop cars are Ford Crown Victoria sedans, Chevy Impale (Malibu and Lumina) sedans, Chevy Tahoe SUV or Dodge Charger. Civilians also drive these types of vehicles. Most police cars are well marked unless they're used for undercover work. A police person should be in a uniform and have a badge. If he or she is not in a uniform and you're already stopped, keep your door locked and pass the information to the person through the window.

These suggestions won't necessarily guarantee that you'll be safe, but they can certainly help.

Don't fall victim to road rage.

This is very important. Road rage incidents have resulted in shootings, fights and even murder. There are some important rules to follow in order to avoid getting into a confrontation. The first rule is to not become angry and aggressive. There are enough idiots out there who become belligerent and think that every traffic situation constitutes a battle using a lethal weapon, which could be the vehicle, a tire iron, knife or a gun.

The best rule is to avoid eye contact. Don't give them the 'finger'. This is the universal sign of an invitation to combat. If the road rage results in a collision, don't get out of your car immediately, unless it's compromised by fire or in a vulnerable location. Allow the police to handle the situation.

The worse thing you can do is starting an argument. It's not worth it. Arguments can lead to physical confrontations, and this only exacerbates the situation.
Road rage often starts with tailgating, horn blowing, flashing headlights, and gesturing. Avoid these behaviors and ignore them from other drivers. Remember that an automobile is a lethal weapon.
