Bonus Chapter No.3

What to do if a police person stops you.

Always show courtesy to a police officer if he or she stops you. It won't do you any good to argue or be belligerent even if you didn't do anything wrong. Just stay calm and talk in a calm and steady voice. Only answer questions that are asked of you. Don't volunteer information, and for goodness sakes, don't admit fault in an accident. Your insurance company will be angry if you do. It's like being captured in a war. Only give your name and serial number. In the case of an accident, this is your license, registration and proof of insurance. Let the insurance companies fight it out.

Be careful in other states or countries.

If you are driving in a different state or country, you should use special caution. The last thing you want is to get into trouble in strange unfamiliar situations. Remember that you're a guest there, not a citizen.

Never leave the scene of an accident.

This is a rule that you must follow at all costs. The reason for this is that if you do and get caught, you'll be going to jail. No matter if it's your fault, you will only exacerbate the problem by leaving, especially if someone is hurt.

Get off the road in case of an emergency.

If you have a flat or run out of gas try to get off of the main road or highway. Sometimes this can be very difficult, but it's better to not be blocking traffic or be in a vulnerable position. Remember that it's safety first.

Learn to anticipate.

When you see a driver going slow or weaving around, it means they're not paying attention or are drunk. Avoid them if possible. They could slip over into your lane or make a sudden turn in front of you.

Drivers usually slow down when they're going to make a turn, sometimes to the left (or right in the UK). Slow down and keep an eye out for this.

Anxious drivers tend to telegraph their moves. They're turning their head around and moving around in the seat. This means that they're going to do something that could put you at risk.
Remember that 90% of all accidents is the result of human error or idiots behind the wheel.
