Chapter Thirty-Five

Nathan threw his head back dramatically against the back of the taxi seat. "God, that must have been the most painful flight of my life," Nathan grumbled.

"Oh, why was that?" I questioned, twisting to face him.

He gave me a long, dry look. "I don't know, maybe it was something to do with a certain crazy girl who nearly clawed my arm out when the plane was landing. I literally still have your fucking nail marks as proof," he hissed as he jerked up his sleeve to show me.

I winced as I saw he was, in fact, telling the truth. "Well, in my defense, nobody told me that for the plane to land, it basically has to drop out of the sky," I said as I held my hands up in defense.

Nathan looked at me with deeply furrowed brows as though he couldn't even fathom my level of logic. "How the fuck did you think it landed? " he spat out rudely.

"Alright, judgy, no need to be rude," I muttered with a frown.

Rolling my eyes at him, I focused my attention back out the window of the taxi. My eyes drew to the tranquil blue sea in the distance, neatly bordered by vegetated cliffs, and mountaintops that spanned out either side of us. A giddy smile pulled to my face as a cool breeze brushed through the window, and whisked my hair in each and every direction.

The more I looked, the more I couldn't believe it was real.

"I'm guessing you like it," Nathan called out above the wind. I glanced back at him to find him watching me with a smile.

"Well, no shit, it's gorgeous," I smiled, not even bothering to hide my excitement. I quickly turned back to face the window, wanting to capture as much of the beauty as I possibly could.

From the corner of my eyes, I could tell Nathan was still staring at me as though stuck in a hypnotized state. I spared him a glance, but he sharply ripped away his gaze as though he had got caught doing something wrong.

I knew it was the perfect opportunity to tease him, but the nice part of myself decided to hold back. He was paying for my entire holiday, after all.

A sickening feeling passed through my chest as I thought about how much the plane tickets must have cost. If my mum knew what I was doing she would undoubtedly kill me. Not only had I gone to a foreign country without telling her, but I was also using someone.

Soon enough, the taxi turned down a winding path which soon gave away to a view to a dream of a house. My eyes darted across the three-story house, taking in the massive balconies at each and every room and the freshly polished windows stretching across the length of the house. My jaw unhinged as I saw an inbuilt waterfall trickle down the side of the house, and into a lake-sized pool at the side of the house.

This had to be a joke...

"Oh, good, we're here," Nathan said as the taxi pulled to a stop. He pocketed his phone and quickly hopped out of the taxi.

With shaky hands, I fumbled with the door handle and climbed out after him. Leaning my back against the car door, I stared up at the building in awe. "Your family owns this," I whispered.

"Yeah, it's our beach house," Nathan said as he popped the trunk to the taxi. With a small grunt, he lifted our suitcases out of the car.

I turned his way. "Oh wait, shoot, my bad, let me take mine," I said as I took a step closer.

He tightened his grip on my case. "It's alright; I'll carry yours. Go wait on the porch; I'll be there in a second," he said.

I cocked up a teasing eyebrow. "Why? Do you want to impress me with your manly strength?" I snorted.

Nathan gave me a dirty look. "Trust me, the last thing on my mind is impressing you," he scoffed.

I snickered at his moodiness before happily skipping my way over to the house. If he wanted to idiotically carry my bags for me, then who was I to stop him.

Resting my elbows against the railings of the porch, I watched as Nathan paid the driver. I raised my eyebrows in surprise as I heard fluent Greek pour its way out of Nathan's mouth.

And I would be lying if I didn't admit it was hot.

Nathan leisurely made his way over to me with our suitcases rolling along behind him. "How the fuck do you know Greek? Isn't that language super hard? " I questioned in confusion.

He stopped before me with a smile. "One, because I like learning languages. Two, because I spend all my summers here. And lastly, three, because girls love it," he chuckled as he shot me a wink.

"Hmm, I wouldn't be too sure about that, buddy," I snorted as I gave him a sympathetic pat on the shoulder.

His eyebrows raised with challenge, "Oh, really?" he said. Letting go of the suitcases, he took a step closer towards me.

"Woah, there, hot stuff, personal space," I said as I put a hand against his chest. The last thing I needed was to fuel up my hormones and have a repeat of the last embarrassing time he got too close to me.

"Why? Are you scared of how I make you feel?" Nathan said as he pressed forward against my hand forcing me to take several steps backward. My back hit the banister, and I swallowed.

Pushing back against my rising nerves, I tried to maintain a casual gaze. "Yeah, actually, I am. Fear is a natural feeling when a weirdo gets all up in your space," I explained with an innocent smile.

Nathan quirked up an eyebrow and silently took a step closer to me before putting his hands on the railing on either side of my body. He wore an amused smile on his face as though he was a cat playing with its prey.

"French, Spanish or Greek, what gets your panties more wet, Sophie?" he asked boldly.

I ignored the flutter that rolled through my chest as he said my name, and instead, pretended to look up at him with an unbothered smile. "Anything that comes out of your mouth isn't going to turn me on, Natalie."

A deep chuckle broke through his lips. "Alright, fine, I'll pick," he whispered as he brought his mouth up to my ear.

I shivered as his warm breath caressed my skin. Smooth words of Spanish escaped through his lips, stunning me into silence. I hadn't a clue what he had said, but whatever it was caused a dangerous feeling to turn through my stomach.

"Erm... have I come out at a bad time?" A loud voice interrupted from behind us.

Both of us jumped in shock, and Nathan quickly pushed himself off of me and swerved to the source of the sound.

"Dad?" Nathan called in surprise.

Glancing over his shoulder, I found his dad leaned back against the open glass doors while staring at the two of us with raised eyebrows.

"I see there's a lot you need to update me on, son," his dad said as he shot Nathan a knowing smirk.

Nathan averted his eyes awkwardly and was about to say something before his dad cut him off.

"Before the denial starts, come over here. I haven't seen your raggedy arse in person for over three months now," his dad laughed as he held his hands out expectantly for a hug.

Nathan let out a light chuckle and walked over to him before embracing him in a hug. It was so weird to see Nathan so affectionate that I couldn't help but smile at the sight.

Once they pulled away, his dad's eyes immediately focused on me. "Aww, Sophie, you're even more beautiful in person. It's no wonder my son dragged you to Greece with him," he chuckled.

Then he turned to Nathan with an excited smile on his face. "Have you finally stopped being a dumb dumb and asked her out?"

Nathan let out an exasperated sigh and massaged the bridge to his nose. "Dad, I've told you a million times, Sophie' my fr-"

Before he could finish, his dad slapped him upside the head.

"Ouch, what the fuck was that for?" Nathan hissed as he rubbed the back of his head soothingly.

"That was me disciplining you for acting like an idiot," he scolded.

"Dad, even if I wanted to ask her out, Sophie just got out of a serious relationship," Nathan argued.

His dad gave him a knowing look. "Well, that fact didn't stop you from pinning her against the banister, and whispering horny shit in Spanish about how you want to rip off her clothes and-"

Nathan's eyes widened comedically fast, and he made wild-cutting actions with his throat as though warning his dad to shut up.

Standing up straighter, I turned to Nathan in intrigue. "Oh my god, is that what you were whispering in my ear? How much you want to rip my clothes off?" I laughed as I looked him up and down in amusement.

"Yup," his dad chirped.

Nathan gave his father a dirty look before lowering his head, so he could vigilantly avoid eye contact with me. "I...I.., only said it, to prove a point," he mumbled out.

"Liar," his dad coughed out under his breath.

Buds of tears pooled in my eyes as I laughed.

"Thanks a lot, Dad," Nathan snapped bitterly as he grabbed our suitcases and rudely pushed past him.

"It was my pleasure," his dad hollered out after him.

I followed Nathan inside the house, and like the outside, it looked beautiful. It opened into a large open hallway that was furnished in a tropical cabana kind of style.

As he led us over to the spiral staircase, I spared a glance to the back and found wide open glass doors looking out onto the beach. I had to be dreaming; I just had to be.

"You'll be staying in here," Nathan said as he pushed open a door to a bedroom.

A beautiful coral-colored room came into view. It had a wide-stretching balcony, a long leather sofa, and the largest looking bed I had ever seen.

Naturally, I did want any sane person would do in this situation. I took off and ran up to the bed before jumping on to it starfish style.

"Very lady-like," he snorted.

I rolled over with a smile and found him standing over me with an amused smile.

"Anyway, I'll come get you in an hour for dinner. I'm the room across, so just walk in if you need anything," he explained. Then with a small smile of goodbye, he made his way to the door.

With a dreary sigh, I pulled myself up into a seated position and wandered over to my suitcase. Since I was half-asleep this morning, he had done my packing for me. I was incredibly stupid to let him, but hey, nobody makes smart decisions when they are tired. Figuring I could do with a shower after such a long flight, I dug around in search of my towel, and some clean underwear. Then I stopped.

Oh my god, he had totally touched my underwear...

When I investigated further, I realized that he had suspiciously selected all the lacy ones. What did this idiot think I was going to get up to on this holiday?

Shrugging it off, I left the room in search of the bathroom. Luckily, it was only to the right of my room, so I didn't have to wander too far.

I had a quick shower. Okay, that's a lie, I had an incredibly long shower. But, can you blame me? The shower literally had mood lighting and an in-built speaker. I seriously needed to ask Nathan what his dad did again. Because whatever job he did, you could sign me right the fuck up.

Once I was done, I wrapped my towel snugly around me and left the bathroom. The second I did, I smacked into someone hard, causing me to skid a little. Hands swiftly lurched around my waist to steady me, and I let out a relieved breath.

"That was close, thanks, Na-"

I cut myself off as my eyes landed on someone who was most definitely not Nathan. The guy looking at me looked a little older than Nathan, with a thinner, more solemn-looking face. I narrowed my eyes trying to make sense of what was happening, then suddenly, I recognized him. He was in my magazine.

"Oh my god, you're Nathan's brother," I whispered in shock.

He blinked down at me in confusion. "Er...yeah. And you are?" he trailed off awkwardly.

The door opposite us suddenly burst open, and Nathan strolled out. He made a move towards my bedroom door, but then he suddenly stopped himself as his eyes caught mine.

His gaze moved swiftly to his brothers and then to where his brother's hands were still gripping my waist. He stared, immobilized in shock, and then something in his eyes changed. It was cold and chilling, and well, hurt.

Nathan let out a broken chuckle and then marched his way over to us in two long steps. I angled myself towards him, but his gaze was solely focused on his brother.

"Nathan, what's-"

I was cut off as Nathan shoved his brother back without a word of warning, causing him to stumble back a couple steps. I was stunned into silence, and before I could get a word in, Nathan turned his angry glare to me.

With hurt-filled eyes, he snatched my wrist and started to tow me away. I stumbled after him as he led me into his room. The moment the door was closed, I was swung around to face him at an incredible speed.

 "Explain?" he snapped.
