Chapter Sixty-One

I tapped my pen anxiously against the side of my desk as I waited for the lecturer to finish rambling on. I must have been tapping a little bit too viciously as I suddenly lost my grip on my pen, and it tumbled into my bag.

"Shit," I muttered lowly under my breath, causing a few students to look my way.

Slouching down in my chair, I dug my hand in my bag and searched around for it. Soon enough, my fingers wrapped around the hardback cover of a notebook, causing me to still.

Not remembering packing a notebook, I pulled it out in confusion. The moment I saw the cover, my blood ran cold. It was the notebook that had started so much trouble in my life.

It was the notebook titled: 'My plan to destroy Nathan Woods.'

I swallowed nervously and quickly obscured it at an angle in my lap that only I could see. With shaky hands, I opened it and skimmed over some of the stuff I had written.

For every word I read, I felt sicker and sicker. I had called him an 'egotistical bastard' among other insulting words. Followed by paragraphs upon paragraphs of rude, judgemental assumptions. And the second page was the most awful of the lot. On that page, I had listed specific instructions of how precisely I planned to take him down.

I said I was going to get him to buy me expensive gifts, and how I was going to play hard-to-get and more and more horrendous stuff. Not even able to stomach looking at it anymore, I snapped it shut and hurriedly shoved it back into my bag.

The rest of the lecturer's words blurred by, and soon enough, there was the unanimous flapping sound of paper and laptops shutting as everyone started to get ready to leave.

I quickly packed up too, then headed straight for the exit. I needed to go home and burn that notebook. I felt dirty merely having it in my possession.

At once, the weight of someone's arms wrapped around my waist and the smell of familiar cologne brushed past my nose. The next minute I felt a kiss on my cheek. "Hey, Sophie," a voice whispered in my ear.

Turning around in the person's hold, I found myself peering into the mischievous eyes of Nathan woods.

I lifted an eyebrow up at him. "You should really check my face before you do that, you know? I could have been a dude with a blonde wig on," I said flatly.

"Hmm, I don't know many dudes with an ass like yours, but okay," he shrugged.

My mouth dropped open at his cheekiness. "Uh, you cheeky bastard," I laughed as I pushed him away from me playfully.

Nathan merely laughed and returned to my side to hook an arm around my shoulders. And as he did, my heart did its normal nonsense of having a mini heart attack.

Ever since we'd returned back to university two weeks ago, he'd been touching me non-stop. He'd come round to my flat and wedge himself right up against me on the sofa, he'd kiss my cheek when he greeted me, and he'd randomly play with my hand any chance he got.

I didn't mind it, of course, but it was still weird.

After Christmas, a lot of things had changed regarding my plan for handling Nathan. I had decided I was no longer going to ignore him since I realized that it was pretty much impossible. So, instead, I was going to strictly remain friends with him and never tell him the truth. Yeah, I know that was a little fucked up, but I couldn't bring myself to tell him. Well, at least not yet.

However, I don't think Nathan was quite grasping the memo of just friends, or if he did, he didn't care to follow it.

"You're aware you're coming home with me today, right?" he stated bluntly.

I stopped in my tracks, and blinked at him, then blinked once again. "Erm..no, I'm not," I snorted as I looked him up and down like he'd gone crazy.

"Er..yes, you are because I need my dosage of Sophie time," he stated matter of factly as though this was common knowledge.

I gave him a funny look. "Sophie time?" I repeated.

"Yeah, I miss you," he mumbled as he pulled me further into his side.

"Nathan, we literally had a movie night yesterday," I snorted.

"Yeah, but Brandon was lurking around the place, and it was annoying," he grumbled like a child.

"Well, what do you expect? He lives there," I laughed.

"Yeah, how could I forget," he muttered with an edge to his tone.

I rolled my eyes, knowing he still harboured some ridiculous jealousy towards Brandon. It was getting more and more tempting by the day, to rip off the band-aid, and tell him that we were never dating.

He cleared his throat, and his lips tugged up into a smirk. "But anyway, answer the question. Will you come around to mine today, or do I have to kidnap you?" he joked.

I made a dramatic show of rolling my eyes. "Fine, whatever, I'll go to your stupid flat with you," I chuckled, deciding to give in.

"God," I moaned. "How does everything you cook taste so godamn good," I murmured as I shovelled another forkful of pancakes into my mouth.

Nathan's lips tugged up in amusement as he watched me from across his kitchen table. I was well aware that I resembled something close to a pig, but I couldn't bring myself to care. It was his own fault, really. If he didn't want me to go all pig mode on him, he should have quite simply not served me pancakes.

When I still felt his eyes on me, I started to feel self-conscious. Swallowing the last of my mouthful, I looked up at him. "What? Why are you staring at me?" I asked with a frown.

His smile grew wider. "Nothing, it's just entertaining to watch you moan like a porn star, that's all."

My mouth dropped open, and I didn't hesitate before throwing my napkin at him, which he easily ducked to avoid.

"Dickhead," I muttered as I sent him a nasty glare.

"Woah, hang on a second, I'm still the guy who made you pancakes," he said as he held his hands up innocently.

I chewed slowly as I processed his words. "Hmm, true...," I drawled.

Then realizing how strangely nice that was, I narrowed my eyes. "Why did you do that?" I asked slowly.

"Simple - because I have a plan," he smirked. The confidence in his smile unsettled me, and my gaze narrowed further.

"What plan?" I asked slowly.

"A good plan," he winked.

I finished the last of my bite, still eyeing him cautiously. He looked a little too happy...

Deciding to ignore it, I picked up my plate before walking over to the sink to go wash it up. When I was about halfway through washing-up, I faintly heard the scrape of his chair followed by the sound of nearing footsteps.

I figured he was getting up to put something away, but instead, I felt the heat of his chest press right against my back. Nearly jumping out of my skin, I clumsily dropped my plate back into the washing-up bowl making it splash.

"Shit," I gasped in surprise. I was seconds away from snapping around to ask Nathan what he thought he was doing, but I got my answer when he reached out for the cupboard up above my head and placed a bottle of chocolate syrup inside.

I closed my eyes in embarrassment, realizing I had overreacted like an idiot. But instead of moving away like I thought he would, he leaned his head down to my ear.

"You should be more careful. We wouldn't want you getting wet, would we?" he murmured, his voice rumbling low. The smoothness of his voice was a stark contrast to the number of nerves I felt bubbling up inside. My heart was racing, and I could feel moisture building up on my palms.

You've got this, Sophie. You're in control. His sex powers won't work on you; it's fine.

I swallowed nervously and slowly turned around, so my back was wedged back against the sink. I instantly realized my mistake when I found those enticing eyes of his, focused intensely on my own, and his lips not more than a few hair widths away.

"Y-you could have..erm just waited till I was finished to put the bottle back," I said weakly, my voice wobbling slightly.

His lips tugged up as though I told a joke. "Now, why would I do that?" he questioned, his eyes alight with mischief. Then, making our situation even worse, he planted both his hands on either side of me, so my body was completely trapped against the sink.

My chest was rising and falling so dramatically now that it was without a doubt that he must have noticed. Still smiling, he took a little step closer to me, so the heat of his body teased me just that little bit more. Not knowing where to look, my eyes flickered between each of his and shamefully to his lips.

He kept his gaze on me still;, his eyes light and teasing. "Are you okay, Sophie? You look a little hot."

I stared back into his eyes for a while, lingering there despite myself. Then finally, coming to my senses, I let out a little growl of frustration before ducking under his arm and escaping him.

I put about a yard of space between us before clearing my throat as though nothing had even happened. Nathan turned back around to face me, his eyes looking a little lost and caught off guard.

"I'm fine, actually, thanks for asking," I shrugged.

Disappointment swam deeply in Nathan's eyes, but the expression was soon lost to one of determination. He smiled. "Sophie, come on. I want to show you something."

Then before I even had a chance to respond, he grabbed my hand and started pulling me along to a room next to his bedroom.

"Erm...why am I in your guest room?" I question in confusion as I surveyed the empty bed and other unused items around the room.

"Because it can be your room," he said, a full smile overtaking his face.

My eyes widened, and I shook my head. "Nathan I-"

"No, no, look," he said as he pulled me over to the wardrobe. "Look at all this space. There's space to put your shoes right here, and your jewellery," he said, pulling out a drawer.

"Nathan, I don't even have that many clothes," I laughed.

"That's simple- I could buy you twice as many clothes to fill it all up," he winked.

"Still, Nathan, I can't leave my other apartment. I still have to pay my side of the rent; it's not fair on Brandon," I protested.

"Well, that's fine, I'll pay it for you. I don't mind," he argued.

"Nathan, it's still not-"

"Hey, come on, check out the bed first. It's bouncy, let me show you," he said as he grabbed my hand. Before I could get a word out, Nathan grabbed my waist and swept me right off the floor.

"Nathan, what are you-" I screamed once again as he suddenly threw me onto the bed. The mattress sunk under my weight, and Nathan jumped onto the bed beside me with a laugh.

He rolled over and faced me before propping his head up with his arm. I cocked up an eyebrow from where I still lay. "

Really?" I said, looking up at him in unimpress.

"Yes, really. You needed to appreciate how soft the bed is," he chuckled.

"Go on, Sophie. Admit it, it's soft," he said, beaming down at me smugly. I sighed.

"Okay, fine, I admit it's quite soft," I mumbled.

"See, this bed can be yours, Sophie. Heck, you can even have my bed if you want," he offered.

"You'd give me your bed?" I said, looking up at him in surprise.

"Yeah, with me in it," he smirked.

I rolled my eyes at him, not able to wipe the smile from my face. But it soon did fade as I remembered how wrong this was. I couldn't live with him, not after what I had done.

"Nathan, why are you doing this?" I asked softly.

"Because-" he mumbled as he reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. "I want you here," he whispered.

Slowly, I watched as his hand dropped down my body and stopped at my waist. I shivered at his touch, and despite everything telling me that it was wrong, I stayed completely still as he drew smooth rhythmic circles against the slit of exposed skin around my waist.

I barely noticed how close he had gotten until I felt the warmth of his breath brush against my lips. Those eyes of his held me capture as I lay still underneath him. My breath hitched as he suddenly moved his lips down to the crook of my neck and kissed it softly.

"Stay with me," he said, lightly against my skin. I closed my eyes; as the feeling rippled deliciously against my skin.

"Nathan," was I all I could say, my breath coming out as a tortured whisper. He trailed his lips to my jawline and kissed me once more.

"Say yes," he whispered.

It was only as he moved his lips to the corner of mine, did I finally come to my senses and lurch my eyes open.

"No, Nathan, stop!" I said abruptly. Pushing him aside roughly, I scrambled off the bed.

I immediately started pacing around the room like a madwoman, not even caring how crazy I likely looked.

I heard the mattress shift as Nathan quickly clambered off the bed after me. He took a step closer to me, his eyes alit with concern. "Sophie-"

"You need to stop doing this," I snapped, cutting him off. He took a step back at my outburst, looking slightly caught off guard.

"Doing, what?" he questioned, his eyes furrowing in confusion.

"Doing this!" I cried out dramatically. "You're messing with my head all the fucking time, and it's driving me crazy. I said that we're friends, Nathan. What don't you get about that?"

Letting out a bitter laugh, he took a step closer to me. "You think I'm the one messing with your head? I'm not the one pretending they don't feel anything between us. I'm not the one pushing you away for no reason. And I'm certainly not the one who comes up with lie after lie for why we can't be together."

I let out a frustrated groan as I ran a hand through my hair. "You think I'm doing that for fun? I don't have a fucking choice, Nathan."

"Why?" he fired back.

I looked up into his searching eyes. "Because...because- Look, I don't okay," I snapped.

His eyes narrowed. "Well, what the fuck am I supposed to do? I can't just be your friend," he cried, his voice cracking slightly at the end.

"And why the hell not?" I yelled.

"Because!" he shouted, throwing his arms up in the air.

"Because, what?" I hissed in frustration.

"Because I can't stop thinking about you, because I fucking love you, okay!" he yelled out in a single breath.

The moment the words left his mouth, it felt as though the whole room had suddenly deafened. I looked back and forth between his eyes which were brimmed with vulnerability. I willed myself to say something, but all I could do was stare.
