ABILITIES
Welcome back everyone! Today, we talk about the ABILITIES of each tribe, and which ones are okay and which ones are not.
On with the abilities!
PYRRHIAN:
IF YOUR OC IS A:
MUDWING: Give them normal MudWing abilities (includes: usually very strong; blend into mud puddles; can breathe fire). If you decide to make your MudWing blood-egg born, I would let it slide, seeing as though there are so little MudWings.
SANDWING: Give them normal SandWing abilities. (includes: can survive a while without food or water; fly high & fast without stopping; can withstand extreme heat; radiate weak warmth from their scales; breathe fire; have a venomous barb on the end of their tail). If your SandWing was born without a barb, lost it somehow, or has a birth defect that makes them weaker, props to you!
SKYWING: Give them normal SkyWing abilities (includes: breathe fire; fly the highest and longest and fastest; great fighters), but please, PLEASE do not make them the fastest flier in Pyrrhia. Please.
ICEWING: Give them normal IceWing abilities (includes: breathe frost breath; serrated claws; can withstand extreme cold and bright light; can fly long-distance, like SandWings). If you give your IceWing a birth defect/anything that makes it weaker, kudos to you! :)
RAINWING: Give them normal RainWing abilities (includes: camouflage scales; can spit acid; can tree-glide; prehensile tails; autotrophic). Same thing as above: if they lost their acid or can't change their scales, good on ya!
NIGHTWING: ....... there's nothing positive about them. They used to be able to fly long distance, but after years of living in an active volcano, their lungs are rotting, their bones ache and they can't do anything. Come to think of it, the only reason people make their OCs Night or part-NightWings is to give them moon born abilities. Please don't do that. Just - no.
SEAWING: Give them normal SeaWing abilities (breathe underwater, bioluminescent stripes, see in the dark, strong tails, webbed talons, great swimmers), and if you make them weaker, thank you!
PANTALAN:
IF YOUR OC IS A:
- HIVEWING: Give them normal HiveWing abilities (includes: stingers in their wrists/tails, can hold venom in their teeth as well; controlled by Wasp (I REFUSE to call her "Queen"); they're currently the tribe in charge of Pantala). NOTE: THE CHANCE OF A MOONBORN HIVEWING IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY. If you make your HiveWing invulnerable to Wasp due to Wasp not stabbing them as a feathering egg, that's fine by me. Also, don't go overboard with the venom thing. Like, don't give your HiveWing stingers in their wrists, tail, AND give them venom teeth. It's either wrists, tail, or teeth, you can't have the fans and your powers too.
- LEAFWING: Give them normal LeafWing abilities (includes: autotrophic; accomplished Gardners; can use certain plants and insects to their advantage; educated in different flora and fauna). The occasional Leafspeak here and there is fine with me, as long as it's a valid genetic trait.
- SILKWING: Give them normal SilkWing abilities (includes: metamorphosis; produce silk from their wrists; can sense vibrations and danger in the air with their antennae). If you insist on making your SilkWing a flamesilk, then... *sighs* fffiiiiineeee.
SPECIAL ABILITIES (aka the one we all dread)
ANIMUS: Okay. This is gonna be long.
Please do not make your character an animus, unless it's absolutely VITAL. Like, fan fiction-dependant vital. [For example, We're Invincible's plot (which is yet to be written but hush) hinges on Khejadi accidentally enchanting a scroll to talk to Whiteout.]
So, if you absolutely INSIST your character be an Animus, here are the DO's and DONT's of Animustry:
DOs:
- GIVE A VALID REASON WHY YOUR CHARACTER POSSESSES MAGIC! I'm gonna to be honest with you all: apparently, when I was first starting out with my WOF original characters, I ended up creating a disaster and a half. My first mistake, daughter of a canon. Yes, I really did just go there. And to make it worse, I wandered into GLORYBRINGER CHILD territory. I'm just shaking my head in disappointment right now. Second mistake, I made my OC an animus. Third, I tried (and failed awfully) to justify said OC's animustry, by making Glory related to an ancient RainWing called Beauty and made Deathbringer a descendant of an ancient NightWing called Warender, which is both dumb and pointless. Past me was an idiot.
Also it's the commonheld belief that animus magic works in genes; a character who's an animus that has children may have children that aren't animi but possess the animus gene, so THEIR children could be animi (and if not, they'd possess the gene)
- MAKE SURE IT MAKES SENSE! Your character can't be casting spells here there and everywhere, there's a soul to protect or at least, that's the rumour....
DONT'S:
- Uhhhhhhh just don't like make them be able to game-end every problem they come across cuz that makes for a superboring fanfiction
